The work is delicate and intracate and fully functional which when it comes to art is considered by some to be the best kind of art. Pots of all shapes and sizes using very traditional gazes I could have dropped a few thousand dollars in here with all the items I fell in love with, but in the end I didn't buy anything. I was greeted by one of the artists and became immersed in a great geology conversation with him! Turns out he mines his own clay! There was a workbench covered with various clays and natural material. Even some pyrite/fools gold. That and animal bones, insect larvae and more. This is a higher end gallery- and after our conversation, I understand why. The shear knowledge of farming your own clay, testing the temperature for firing, shrinkage, vitrification & absorption rate- a rabbit hole I may someday fall into. I loved his passion for the subject. The art throughout the space was also fabulous. The woman artist was concentrating on her work and her sculptures were fantastic! This was our very first pottery stop in Seagrove and I am so happy our B&B had us start here! I didn't know it until I made it home, but one of the closed shops I tried to go to (some shops were closed when we were visiting because they were working the state fair)- I did buy one of their pieces here on the first day! Calicutt Pottery- I was thrilled to see I snagged a piece of their art. My favorites here were from Seagrove Art Pottery- a husband and wife couple who make fabulous. brightly color, unique pottery! I did make it to their home store too- but I loved the pieces on display in this shop! This should be your first stop in Seagrove- because you will see a variety of local art in one building!

I had seen that she did a collaboration with other women potter's in the area for a big fundraising event & the figures she created have this powerful, regal feel. Goddess, empress, high priestess... she has several in her shop of various sizes in addition to her lovely bee themed series! She's a bee keeper in addition to a potter, small business owner and who knows what else this powerhouse has going on! I remember being so impressed the first time I met her. She took me right out to show me her kiln she was unloading! Turns out, we share a common friend outside of Seagrove. Michael Cottrell. My school professor! They go way back. Very small world. Shop small, support your artists!

The guild has a very full store, with numerous artists represented & a gallery space for showings. I managed to stroll in 10 minutes before they closed and Penny didn't make me feel rushed at all. She happily directed us to the gallery portion and then I hunted through the store to find a little art treasure to take home. I love whimsical art & fell in love with one artists works in the store! Penny took down my email and sent me information on the potter, so that we could connect! Talk about above and beyond. I love the commitment to the arts- connecting artists is so important to the craft. I appreciate that they had items for all budgets, too. This was definitely a favorite stop and I look forward to returning in March and popping in again!

We actually went here twice- because I didn't have much cash the first time and I couldn't tell you when the last time I carried a checkbook. This old school potter is retiring when he runs out of clay- which makes me extra happy I snagged two of his pieces! I picked out a little cup and a lidded jar. I love his handles! The jar had his curly q handle style. I was enamored with the lights though, truly I was trying to figure out where I could put one at my home. But- I just don't need one. He had both hanging light fixtures and nightstand lamps. I loved them both! Great prices and I was so happy to surprise him when I came back!

Very friendly folks…read more Then there is the beautiful pottery in great quantity, all set apart by the styles and variety from the everyday ceramic humdrum in most shops that we use to furnish our kitchens and our lives. Why pick up a cup from a department store when you can have "the only one"? Then, there is the invention: A small pound cake ceramic pan (with recipe). A bowl for cooking and serving an individual baked apple. An Apple shaped Apple Crisp bowl that goes straight to the table. In case you've ever given thought as to how your family will remember you, someone picking up a unique piece of cookware and having fond memories of mealtime around the table is not a bad way to be recalled. We have been very impressed with Sandra and Glenn. They are not a secret in the area, but maybe less known than they should be.
