DIRECTV Consumer Abuse…read moreOn 10 October 2018, Hurricane Michael struck Panama City Beach. My home was destroyed. It is now 28 October 2019 and I am still not in my home as it is still under construction. After the hurricane, I requested that all my DTV services be suspended until I could return to my home. I explained that I would notify DTV once I moved back into my home. In the interim, I was slated to deploy to Afghanistan for a year - possibly two years. I retrieved my DTV equipment from storage and returned it to DTV as my return home had been indefinitely delayed. On October 12, 2019, DTV charged me $241.79 and debited my checking account for this amount. I caught the charge when it cleared a few days later. We called to request immediate refund and explained that we were still displaced from the hurricane and are not yet ready to resume service and would not be ready for the foreseeable future. They refused to issue an immediate refund and said they would escalate the request. That was October 15th. I called today to check the status and I spoke to 4 different representatives & got a different story from each one. The last one stated that the claim was still open but because my account was in a disconnect status it could take up to 30 days to review and reach resolution. So, here I am, a victim of Hurricane Michael, days away from deployment to a combat zone and DIRECTV who just merged with AT&T, cannot refund $241.79 to a customer of both DIRECTV and AT&T. My bill with AT&T is over $250 each month. I have been with them over 10 years. I have had DIRECTV every place I have ever lived. This is consumer abuse of the highest order.
