If I could give Directv 1 star I would. Where do I even begin to start? The installation process that took 5 days, 4 different installers and cost me more stress than a breakup? Is there an option for NEGATIVE STARS?! DirecTV provides customers with terrible customer service. I cannot believe the service I have been given. Here is my story and I hope that it steers anyone thinking of getting DirecTV to think otherwise. I have the "whole home DVR" and a "cinema kit" so that I can enjoy my DVR in every room and the cinema kit to provide a wireless connection to my receiver in order to obtain on demand features. Unfortunately, the whole home DVR stopped working so I called DirecTV and they needed to send out a technician. This technician who arrived obviously knew nothing about internet and the dominant problem in this issue was the receivers connecting with one another via my home network. This tech decides to start futzing with my internet and it stops working. This technician leaves my apartment WITHOUT fixing the original problem AND breaking my internet. I call DirecTV outraged and they send another technician. This technician fixes the whole home dvr but then leaves without my internet working. After 6 hours of arguing and technician issues, I gave up and fixed my own internet. I called retentions and their retention specialist has obviously never been trained on how to keep a customer as I had to ask for everything and nothing sufficient was offered to me. A specialist is supposed to be specialized in keeping their customer not to just sit there and ask me what I want only to shoot down every single one of my requests. This retention specialist schedules another technician to come the next morning. The new technician shows up and immediately tells me the problem is my router (when it has worked before). I have an apple router and the technician asks me to call Apple to "take down the firewall". Apple states that there is no firewall. I then, SPECIFICALLY, tell the technician not to touch my internet. This guy then proceeds to UNPLUG MY ROUTER deliberately against my wishes. My internet stops working. I tell the guy that my internet is now not working thanks to him and he proceeds to LEAVE without fixing any issues and breaking my internet. I tell him he is not leaving until he fixes what he is supposed to fix. This man pushes me out the way and walks out of my apartment without internet and without fixing the issue. I then had to fix my own internet and am now awaiting to hear from the technician's supervisor. Is this how DirecTV takes care of their customers? If so, it is disgusting and the advertisements for best customer service are a complete lie. read more

When I first received the service it was great. The service is still good but there are numerous hidden fees that pop up from time to time. So if you get the service you should always check you bill. The part that makes it even worse is the customer service. The people they hired are the worst and they are so rude. I constituently have to speak to a supervisor and even then I still get an attitude. Im not sure if its because they don't like there job but if I'm being polite so should you. As soon as my contract is up I am going right back to TIME WARNER ... When it rains or snows, expect not to have any t.v. service. I had to constantly call and argue with them to credit my account since I didn't have service. If something is wrong with the satellite they charge you a service fee too so you have to basically fix it yourself to avoid the irrelevant service fee. You're locked into a 2 year contract with them and best of all don't sign up for monthly autopayments because apparently that gives them "permission" to charge your credit card on file even after you've discontinued service with them. I paid my last bill yet randomly get charged an additional $200 which I never authorized them to charge the card on file. I seriously hate direct tv and I would never go back or refer anyone to them. read more

I made the misake of phoning Direct TV to get a price quote. They managed to waste an hour and forty minutes of my time. The representative I reached insisted they needed my social security # to quote prices. When I balked at this, the oh-so-friendly agent became a lot less friendly. I ended up speaking with a supervisor who after fifteen minutes of arguing managed to tell me they could lock in a price of $55 a month plus state taxes for no-frills cable access. It was only much later in the conversation; after hearing in exhaustive detail about how great a deal I had scored; then hearing about and passing up all sorts of just-so-fabulous extras that would have doubled the monthly cost; then needing to charge $30 and change to my credit card for a fee that, inadvertently, of course, hadn't previously been mentioned -- it was only after all this that, upon what amounted rigorou to a rigorous and uncomfortable cross-examination, the supervisor I'd been speaking with for well over an hour assured me that for the second year my price guarantee included the peace of mind that I wouldn't need to pay more than $97 a month. She said it would almost certainly be less. She couldn't put a number to this, but told me not to worry. Direct TV would never want to lose a good customer. When I insisted on knowing how much I'd be paying for the second year, I was connected to customer service, which told me that at the moment, at least, they were offering second-year prices as low as $88.00 a month. The early cancellation penalty is $20 a month. Tech services was a no show two days in a row. Second day no calls to cancel, just a note on my account popped up saying unable to complete! They are apparently all contractors with no accountability for the jobs they do. I had signed up for a trial 3 months package for Directv Now during the World Cup this summer to try out their service. In July, I canceled the service online, never got an email cancellation and today I was casually reviewing my credit card statement and saw a $40 monthly recurring charge on my statement. Directv had failed to process my cancellation. I worked with customer service and even spoke to a manager, but the best they could do is give me a refund for the coming month, but I'm out of pocket payment from July through October. This is really unfair. Be careful of their sign up trial programs and make sure you get an email confirm from them to validate the cancellation. I got screwed. read more

Had a new roof installed and did not want the dish mounted on the new roof and requested that they relocate the dish to my chimney. Four different appointments were set up to have work preformed and they refused services. Received different stories from techs, chimney gets to hot, the chimney is not structurally stable when they were not even at the site to see what shape the chimney is in. The fourth appointment they didn't even show up, when I called they said that they will not come out and move the dish after waiting all day and had to take another day off of work. DONE after 18 year they can take there dish and boxes back. There are so many other companies that I can give my business to. read more

I got NFL Sunday Ticket through these clowns. They do not quote an honest rate. I had to spend 5 hours on the phone to get my service working and had to wait 30 hours at home for the installation guys to come set it up. They came 2x and still did not get it right but you can be sure that they billed me. The company compensated me $170 or at least they said they did. In fact they put extra charges on my bill and did not add the $170 credit so I had to call again. I can tell you that I have never had such poor service from any sort of mobile tele, cable, satellite, telephone com of any kind. The only way they get away with it is that they know they are the only ones who have NFL Sunday Ticket. But that's OK because that monopoly won't last forever!!!!! I reported these clown to the FCC. Terrible customer service, lies and a complete waste of time! Decided to switch from my current TV provider to Direct TV. Was offered the moon by their sales representative that created a bundle with Direct TV and ATT internet and wireless account. Too good to be true! When I started receiving bills from ATT in my mailbox that same day I was not feeling comfortable with what I agreed on and tried to call Back customer service to confirm my new plan. None of ATT nor Direct TV was able to view what each other service was included in a bundle. Spent 6 hours in 3 days on the phone trying to get someone that could review my order and Believe it or not, I was nowhere to be found. They couldn't locate my account! Meanwhile I received a device from ATT and my appointment for the installation was still on as I received several emails to confirm. Spoke to about 20 people from both sides that were either arrogant, incompetent, clueless and also rude to only discover the day of the installation that none of the services were available in my building!!! Of course i had to cancel the order: - Direct TV customer service canceled the service and hang up on me. (Will follow up to make sure it is cancelled) - ATT wanted to charge me the week my service was switched to unlimited data. I had to argue to finally get my service restored back to where it was and get credited for the difference. Sending back their "hotspot" device to hopefully receive a full refund. One full week of frustration dealing with incompetent, rude and clueless employees working for one company that still have 2 separate entities absolutely not connected! I, too, have been a loyal customer since 2000. The old Directv, prior to AT&T merger, provided excellent and personal customer service. Now? What a joke. Had ordered two new boxes due to freezing and pixelation. Called them to finish the install and they "accidentally" deactivated one of my boxes. Said they couldn't reactivate it over the phone? And said they'd sendout a tech the following weekend with a new box. He showed up with no equipment, said he wasn't told what my problem even was. Had to make yet another appt. And stay home to wait. The guy came to my door, knocked lightly three times and walked away. Didn't ring the doorbell or wait even five seconds for me to get the door and he was gone (I have the whole thing on my Nest camera video). When I called them to get him back here they said they couldn't, I'd have to reschedule. Everyone is overseas and they could care less about customer service and doing the right thing. The "old DirectV" would have had someone back at my house that day WITH an apology in hand. The supervisor disconnected my call and never called me back after being on hold for over a half an hour. Told me if there's a problem with my dish ever they couldn't fix it - new policy, they won't go on any roofs anymore. Would have to put a pole in my yard which in my heavily wooded property would never reach the HD satellite. Whole company is crap now since merger. Oh, and this pleasure is all for the price of over $200 a month!! Peace out - cancelled my service. Worse cable ever!!! Constantly freezes even when it isn't bad weather. Trying to buy movies on demand is a nightmare. I've called repeatedly and have had technicians come to fix the problem. They tell me the my DVR box is too full. Even after deleting many programs leaving it over 90% empty, it still freezes constantly. Direct tv makes me miss Time Warner cable. read more

Sadly, I have to agree with ALL of these ratings. Directv used to be a decent service and now they, like Time Warner Cable, are nothing more than a third world country-standard company. We might as well be in India where corruption is rampant. It's sad that, in what's supposed to be one of the "richest" cities in the world, we can't even watch tv anymore. None of these companies are any good. I read an article that stated that 1/3 of Americans are doing without cable. No wonder! Avoid Directv! Directv was not honest when they say "You can cancel the service with no termination fee if you move somewhere that does not allow it". I move in 2009 to a condo building that would not allow the dish on the balcony or roof. They still charged a $350 termination fee. 7 years later they are still trying to collect that money. Just got direct TV installed and already sorry we chose them. Installation was a pain and they drilled wires and brackets into our walls and base boards without asking. It looks horrible. They also scratched walls as they dragged the 2 dishes through our apartment to install. We got internet too from them which is its own separate dish that had to also be installed on our roof and its own separate wiring that had to be pulled into the apartment. Make sure you get a full overview of what they actually need to do - 2 dishes, 2 separate wires needing to be pulled into the apartment - none of this was told to us when we called to inquire before signing up, and seems totally unnecessary and they should have something more advanced by now. Customer service has also proved unhelpful. Apparently it is possible to miss time warner cable... read more

I am not even a direct tv customer but this company let someone opened an account using my name and SSN! No confirmation if it was really me!I got a mail from a debt collector saying I have to pay direct tv almost 400$!!! The address on the said account and the phone number is not even mine! My credit score went down because of that debt and had to go through all the hassle just to clear it up! Had to send them police report and all and not even a decent apology from them. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH DIRECT TV. They will give you a low rate like $34.95/month and after 2 months will increase it to $110.00. You then call and a nice rep will agree with you and will bring it down again . Another month later , you'll get a bill of $129.00. Reps on the phone will agree and promise to submit a dispute but the bills won't stop coming. When you write them a letter for the dispute, they will never respond. 4 letters and counting now. They are now blackmailing me to buy their insurance plan in order to fix the problem. I have spent over $50,000 over the years for DTV and they want me to buy insurance. Even less than 1!! My 90 year old mother and 88 year dad were convinced by a directv rep to switch their service. who knows what they said. but they were lured by lower costs. of course, an elderly couple making less than 13k with their pension, this was important. So they got directv and the service was horrible. My dad didnt have the channels he always liked, the service was bad in Bkjlyn and when my mom complained, the customer service was even worse. Of course if they wanted more, it was more money. Finally after a short time, my mom cancelled the service telling the rep she couldnt handle all the problems. (I had no idea they were doing this). Since they cancelled so quickly, the rep told my mother, they would not be hit the termination fee as long as they returned the equipment quickly. She said fine and I personally returned everything via USPS. A month later, they get a bill for $472.43 for early termination, etc. Obviously my mother was upset and said there was no way they could pay that since they live on limited income. Go forward, bill goes to collections and now they have someone threatening them that will freeze their checking account, freeze their pension, etc. So now my poor 90 year old mother is freaking out and asking can they do that? "I dont have that kind of money. They cant take what little i have or can they? So on 11/11, i called Directv customer billing service. That was HORRENDOUS! I explained what was going on and what their collections agency is doing. Said that was illegal and all she said was well they have to pay it. Really? not even listening or trying to work this out. I said the service was horrible and not consistent and the collection agency was way out of line. She said thats not our problem. So when I asked to speak to her supervisor, she disconnected me. I was so angry!!! My parents are back with cablevision. Yes a little more money but they worked with them due to their age. The rep was helpful. The tech connected everything in the house, showed my dad, who is legally blind in one eye, how to use the remote and dvr. Helped with the phone. Absolutely fantastic service!!! thats the difference between a professional operation and one that is not. The next letter from the collection agency, i will be contacting the state and reporting them on their poor business ethics and harassment and then they can deal with my lawyer. The season begins but no NFL ticket as the sales rep made a mistake since the Select Package i initially signed up for doesn't qualify for the Free NFL Ticket for the first season. 10 days later i upgraded to the Choice Package which does allow the free NFL Ticket. DirecTV is the worst cable service. They are ridiculously over priced and they are crooks. I cancelled service on two of my receivers more than 2 years ago. They continued to charge me for 2 years. When I called them about this, they refused to credit me for the service they had not provided for 2 years claiming I was receiving the service. After an hour on the phone, they finally came back and confirmed that I had in fact cancelled the service and they had in fact fraudulantly been charging me. Then, they credited me for only 1 of those years. In addition, they claim not have a record of ever receiving 2 of the receivers which I sent back 2 years prior and expected me to have a tracking number 2 years later. I proceeded to cancel my service with them altogether. I strongly recommend you look into better cable options. Their customer support is terribly by the way. read more

After trying 3 times and 90 minutes to purchase directv wireless I finally spoke to someone who could take my order. Then the installation showed up with all of the wrong equipment. It took me another 2 hours and 7 transfers within ATT to what i believe finally resolved the issue. Was I mistaken? Over the weekend ATT sent no less than 35 messages confirming my installation on Monday July 30th between 8am and 12pm. By 12;30 we call directv to find out where the installation team was only to find out after 45 minutes on the phone that they canceled our installation and rescheduled us for Aug 6th. Who runs a company like this. Where is Randall Stevenson he should be embarrassed? Randal are you there? They then charged me for the package and would not reimburse me. I had a credit for changing my plan and therefore had a credit and they wouldn't give me back my credit. read more

This one is the worse cable provider I had ever used. The service was terrible!!! When the tuner broke up, I paid 50$ to get new one. After one year with this provider, they doubled my bill. When I said, "I was done with it and wanted to cancel my service", they said I need to pay 20$ for 11 month cancellation fees. Now they try to show me papers that says something about cancellation fees, but neither of them does not show any 20$/month. I thought Time Warner was bad, but I was wrong. Direct TV is the worst ever. I set up a new subscription with Direct TV along with my subscription I also ordered an international channel. The online agent never told me that I needed two satellite dishes on my roof one for regular channels and the other for International station. I already didn't like the fact that a dish needed to be installed on my roof but two dishes I was annoyed. After cancelling my subscription the same day after installation I now have a Dish on my roof that I need to remove. Since they don't remove the dishes themselves. I have to pay someone to do it for me. Buyer beware they don't explain anything properly and then leave you to fix the problem. Never will I set up a subscription with Direct TV. read more
