We are moving and will be selling our house. Direct TV told me that they do not retrieve their dish, that it is not "cost effective" for them. Right, cost effective for THEM. I cancelled DirecTV service on 5-7-25 by phone because I was changing providers and was told the service would be cancelled that day and that my equipment was mine to recycle because it was outdated. On 5-28-25, I received an e-mail from DirecTV stating that I was in arrears for 209.21 because my current billing cycle didn't expire until 6-4-25. I called their Customer Service and was told that I owed 209.21 for the period between 5-7-25 and 6-4-25 even though I had not received satellite TV service since 5-7-25 and that they did not prorate final bills. After complaining that it was unfair to pay for something I didn't receive and was not informed about, I was told that someone in their Loyalty Dept. could answer my questions. After several minutes off the phone, the agent returned and said that their Loyalty Dept. refused to talk with me because they only dealt with customers who were threatening to quit DirecTV. She then told me I could pay the 209.21 over the phone with a credit card. I reluctantly agreed and then was told the final bill would be 215.46 due to more late fees!!! I gave my card number to the agent and asked her to repeat it back to me to see if she got it right and she said she was unable to do that due to privacy laws!! Then she asked me to repeat my card number twice more to verify the number!!! After 29 years of my wife and I being DirecTV customers, we finally decided to discontinue service, as we were no longer using the service, instead streaming via fiber Internet provided by CenturyLink. Living in Colorado Springs, we often have heavy rains or snow, and having satellite, that often meant that we would miss programs. In addition, local channels carried via the satellite--such as UPN and CWTV, were of significantly lower quality. At the time my wife called to end service, she checked her bill, which showed a zero balance on the account. The customer service representatives assured her numerous times that her account was up to date, and that she would not get another bill--after trying every kind of bonus and discount to get us not to leave. Months later, we get a bill from a collection agency for $248 for unpaid service. It turns out that they didn't turn off the service when we told them to, because it was in the "middle of a service cycle" (for which they bill in advance). The bills are payable in the middle of the existing service cycle, and the President of Operations at DirecTV HQ in California advised us that their "policy" was not to pro-rate service for residential customers. He argued that it was a legitimate debt for "services rendered", while we replied that he was trying to charge us for services we'd never use, and didn't discontinue services when told to do so. We also noticed that DirecTV no longer sends out technicians to deinstall or reclaim equipment: we had to go to a UPS store, after digging around the house for the head unit and all the remote units, to ship them back with prepaid labels. One of the problems is that head unit had been installed in a small, tight closet in our basement that was hard for us to get into. They also left us with dish stuck in our garden which is now a useless eyesore. Their attitude, instead of being grateful for the time they had us as customers, is more like when the RIAA was suing music users to make up for deficits in profit projections. Whatever happened to "The customer is always right?" Since AT&T purchased DirecTV, the latter has gotten too big for their britches, thinking that "customers serve us". Their leadership is money hungry, arrogant and unethical, and doesn't respect the customers who keep them in business. To Hell with DirecTV. read more

So I have signal issues with my dish bc of bad installation and wind. They want to charge me $95 or half that or sign up for a service plan. I told them no to all of it after talking to 2 customer service reps and 2 supervisors. Then when I got off the phone I got an email saying I signed up for a service agreement which I declined multiple times. Today I called back and asked them to cancel my contract bc they added the protection plan to my account and they didn't care. They told that it's free for the first month so no harm no foul. They won't let me out of my contract bc of my concern of their shady practices and that I don't trust them to not do something like this again by adding something to my account without my authorization. I would high advise to not start or stay with a company that allows associates to put things on your bill without your consent and the fact that everything is the customer's fault and they won't fix anything without you paying out of pocket or starting a protection plan with in turn costs you more money. This company should not be in business! I am being charged an EARLY termination fee after 4 years of service. I was told that there would not be any fees added upon the cancellation to move but got a bill in the mail for $148 anyway. Obviously, they don't pay attention to any notes made in their system, as I talked with several agents that said no fee. My Direct TV service was suspended for 6 months after losing my job because of the COVID. I called and disconnected the service in March and upgraded my Internet service. Two months later I received a bill from DirecTV for $405.00. When I called customer service the associate was rude said it had not been disconnected and if it was not paid by June 1st a late charge would be added. I explained that I don't have a job and will have to pay it out. So, we have had direct tv for years and except for price and it going out when there are storms, really no problem until now. Needed internet service so we contracted with AT&T. Good service except when they came out to install they never hooked up the internet to the tv. Just spent an hour on hold to discuss how to set this up and finally the phone was answered by Sasha. Asked the obligatory questions, told her that we think we need a CCK-W. She said she had to check and placed us on hold.....which really was hanging up on us. I haven't had service with direct tv since Nov. 2018. I canceled my service and payed my bill. The customer service representative kept insisting that I put a hold on my account for 3 months in case I decide I want to reactive service. I said no. Since then I have received small bills for 6 cents or 69 cents. I have called direct tv 4 times letting them know I haven't had service since 2018. Everytime I call they tell me that they have resolved the issue permanently and the next month I receive another bill. This time it was for $145. When I called in to have it resolved again I was asked if they could call me back. Don't go through direct tv. They don't know what their doing. read more

Direct tv is overpriced and overrated. I feel I'm being robbed. After 30 years of paying for tv service, this is the worst.

This starts with the usual caveats that it's a large company that gives you a two year contract every time you breathe hard next to the receiver. But, with limited internet, streaming is not an option, so I have been with them for 7 years and 3 houses. I love their service. Now that you don't have to buy a box to transfer recorded shows to your iPad, it makes their service even better. I have the premium and several sports packages. I am totally happy with the value for the dollar. I value my time and I have no desire to buy more equipment and hunt, peck and search for what I want to watch. And then be at the mercy of 18th CenturyLink and their sometimes fast service. I have had one problem with customer service, before they were bought by Liberty Media. They are always responsive and, if you know how, you can get discounts and reduced packages every month. I never have had a technical problem or billing issue that wasn't resolved quickly and in my favor. read more

If I could give a 0 rating I would. This company is full of hidden fees and charges. We were building our home and before signing up I said I was building my house, and would be adding TVs as we went. They said this was easy to do, just have a tech come help and we could do it. Come 3 months later we finish our basement and want to add 4 TVs and upgrade our package. The rep tells me, 3 months in mind you, that each tv will be a one time $100 charge ($400). Then that each tv will be $20 more per month ($80) to my monthly bill. And to upgrade to get 2 channels I wanted (ESPN and Boomerang), it would charge another $60!!! So for the upgrades they said would be no problem I would up my bill $140 per month and be out $400 from the jump. THESE GUYS ARE SCAMMERS AND WILL LOOK FOR ANY WAY TO REAM YOU!! with all the new ways to watch tv ( Playstation vue, YouTube tv, Hulu, Netflix xfinity) they should really look to do better for their customers and take care of us! Directv used to be a pretty good service until AT&T bought them out. Now it's the worst. The surprising part of that is that years ago when I lived in another state, I had ATT&T's U-Verse service, and that was a great service with few problems and decent customer service. Over the last few months, the service problems began where the picture and sound would just freeze, for a few seconds or a few minutes. I often had to reset both the main box in the living room as well as the genie in my room (where I do most of my viewing). AT&T's pitiful excuse for customer service is the worst, so I tried their website first. How does the biggest telecom service in history build the worst website ever? I can seldom find what I need, and the pages load so slowly, it's like swimming in syrup. So I had no choice but to call their customer service. Ugh. Being too cheap to pay for good American workers, AT&T is proud to give you customer service reps in Mumbai or some place where they will work for pennies per hour. You're lucky if they can understand you, much less you understanding them. I had to constantly ask them to repeat themselves. And it took four calls and three home service visits to accomplish NOTHING ... the danged thing is freezing while I write this. And what kind of cheap company makes the customer pay to fix THEIR equipment? Unless you buy and insurance policy for $8.99, which I did under protest, they charge you $99 to send someone out. Sheesh! After four calls and three visits, plus a new genie box, I finally found out from the last guy that the freezing is due to a known software glitch ... known for more than seven months! Why didn't they share that information with their customer service people? My last call, on 4/24/2019, was with a manager (which I had to request out of frustration because I could not understand a word the first guy was saying), and even he had no clue. That call took a whopping 2 1/2 hours, during which I found out two things I didn't know: 1, that I'd been paying for four boxes when I only have three, at $6.99 per month, and 2, that even though I had paid the $8.99 for the service policy, they had nevertheless charged me $99 each for the two previous service visits. They took those charges off my bill, but they could only refund three months' worth of extra box rental fees. BE WARNED: If you have Directv's service, there's nothing on you billing statement that breaks down what equipment you're paying for, so I suggest you call them and verify that you aren't paying for extra boxes you don't have. I have no way to know how long they've been robbing me, and I only got a refund of $21. It used to be that when a cable or satellite TV service screwed up, they would take a little ofc your bill, or at least give you a free movie or two. With Directv under AT&T's management (if you can call it that), you get NOTHING. They will tell you over and over again how much the value your business, but that's a great big lie. read more

However this last year at three different times they have told us one thing and then signed us up for something else. Very shady!!!! No one there seems to be able to "fill out the correct form" so they say, they promise it will be in your account in 48-72 hours and still now 4 weeks later I do not have my overpayment. I signed up and a technician came out. I think he was Russian, he only knew a few English words. What was bad is he used the modem from my old company Comcast. I asked him don't you have any of your company modems. He said "no no". The other thing was I lost the ability to use my DVD players. I have literally had their service for just 3 weeks and I have interuption error code of 775 all day long. When they couldn't fix it over the phone the tech said she would send someone out for $99. I got very angry and asked for a supervisor. That guy refused to get on the phone with me and offered "a one time courtesy" for this fee to which I replied with "let me speak to the supervisor now!" Again he refused so I told the tech that this is their issue and that it is fraud to deliberately install faulty dish's and try to collect on unsuspecting customers. I cancelled my service. Zero starts should be their rating as this company is the worst I have EVER dealt with. Just after starting their service, I had to call their corporate office to get any help over a year ago. I am one of those people with note the exactly who and when I have contact with any business. And yet we continue to deal with issues: 1. paying $15 per mo. for services like steaming that does not work, issues with the DVR not working consistently and being told that they have to charge us the fee no matter what per Duke (Supervisor) because of the type of receiver we have. What? I have to pay extra for a service that does not work and that I cannot enjoy because of the receiver your company gave me? 2. paying $14 per mo.for faulty equipment (receivers) that has had to be replaced multiple times in addition to the aforementioned fee. Our both of our receivers would go black with no error codes, no sound, no picture - nothing no service at all until you would have to unplug them and reboot all of the systems. No credit here either per customer service. 3. Being promised but not getting the proper credits for cancelled receivers or cancelled Premium Pay channels, not get recovery boxes as promised. On 4/1/2017 at 2:02 pm I spoke with Tanisha after being transferred to them from CenturyLink. She stated that she would remove my premium pay channels, inactive an unused receiver that was supposed to be pick up by a tech in Dec of 2016 and request the receiver recovery kit to return it. Called today and while speaking to Duke I was told that the only notes in the system for that day was billing questions. HUH??????? and they wonder why I am so frustrated by the lack of service and help - you have got to be kidding me!!!! If your April billing cycle is figured on a 30 day cycle 3/22 to 4/21, I should receive a retro credit for 20 days on the next bill (credit of $36). 4. Billing Issues - my bill went from $128.36 to $184.56 then to $216.56 without us changing our services. Amazing how the bills greats higher and the service gets worse!!! You call customer service and they totally lie. This month alone I have spoken with Kat, Tanisha, Jasmine, Camma and Duke regarding the exact same issues. 5. How and why is it considered "loyal" to charge an existing customer of over a year more than a new customer? Why would you advertise the fees on your website that do not apply to all your customers? I cancelled my direct tv service on September 16 with the cutoff date of October 4th- plenty of time to research other providers. On the 18th direct Tv's loyalty department reached out to me and renegotiated my contract. I got an order number and a confirmation email for the new contract. At 7PM on September 27th, direct TV cancelled my service. I reached out and was told it would reinstated within 30 mins. Nope, so I called back the next morning and was told 1) we can activate your account again at a higher price 2) we can activate your account again with a lesser package & a higher price 3) we are locked out of your account & maybe in 24 to 48 hours we can get back into your account. Three and half hours on the phone later we have no service, no honoring of any contract, and the most inefficient "service" providers I've ever dealt with in my life. "We don't know why it was cancelled" "we see your order but we can't honor it" "maybe we'll get you up and running by Monday, maybe not" "we know you have been a stellar customer but we can't unlock your account" and on & on This is breech of contract and the poorest customer service that I have ever received. I've heard other people complain about how bad Direct TV is and now I know it's true. I have 8 devices on my AT&T account so this company would be wise to disassociate themselves from this dishonest company as my accounts are bundled. OMG the worst experience ever! Ordered and then had a call from the technicians to install and they tried to tell me the wanted to put in some old receivers and that the size of my house would not work with the DVR LMFAO ... Dish does the only reason I changed was Dish didn't have HBO anymore. So I called Direct TV/ ATT to tell them the installation problem they apologized and set up a new installation gave me the ref# and arrival time & date. NO one showed up I called again and they said it was canceled WTF !!! SOOOO I had to do a whole new ORDER they charged me more and also 315. 95 for activation which they didn't do before MY GOD REALLY do I still get my 100. ATT card??? Craziest Shit ever! Don't waste your time. My receiver constantly stops working and needs to be rebooted. 3 times per week and it takes about 6 minutes for the process. If you are recording to the dvr during this, you lose it. I have had this service for only 4.5 months and I cannot wait to cancel. I do use them through Centurylink if that makes a difference. Terrible company, terrible service. Had Directv bundled to AT&T shared phone plan without our knowledge or consent. When we attempted to remove this service, Directv hit us with early cancellation fee and 2 months of service fee, to the tune of $590. Was unable to resolve, was never notified of charges, was completely unaware of charges till after account had gone to collections. Direct TV advertised that they would provide a refund to their customers of NFL Ticket due to the NFL players protesting during the national Anthem. That is not true at all as they are flatly denying to do it for any of their business accounts and when I called them and asked for a refund on my residence account I was hung up on three times. Even after asking for a supervisor to speak to twice. So don't believe anything you are hearing about this "offer" from DirectTV. They are not doing anything at all to deal with the protests. After 11 years of so-so service, we called with a question to DirecTV about whether we had a contract with them because we were thinking about switching providers, The only reason we kept the provider the past few years was because we wanted the NFL Sunday Ticket. But the reception and on-screen information services deteriorated so badly that we wanted out. We asked about whether we had any contractual agreement and they said it had expired, Then when we switched services we called DirecTV to cancel they said we owed them $120 to close down our contract, I argued with Shawn #443616, an alleged supervisor but, after 11 years, my verbal agreement he said I made a year ago to extend outweighs his operator telling me I did not have a contract.
