Direct Propane - A Lifesaver in an Emergency! I recently had a propane emergency at my home, and although I was not a Direct Propane customer at the time, they treated me like I'd been with them for years. I was originally using AmeriGas, but after days of trying, I couldn't get a single service tech to come out and help. Out of desperation, I started calling local propane companies -- and thank goodness I reached Direct Propane in Del Valle. The woman I spoke with was incredibly kind and said she could have someone out the same day. She made no promises about a same‑day fix, only that the tech would diagnose the issue. An hour later, Josh Harvey arrived, and everything changed. Josh discovered that a large amount of water had flooded my gas line. Not only did he diagnose the problem quickly, but he spent hours manually draining water from every appliance's gas hub. This was tedious, messy, and absolutely above-and-beyond work -- yet he never hesitated. He even repaired my propane tank gauge at no additional cost. For the amount of labor, time, and care Josh put in, the final cost was shockingly reasonable. I was expecting a huge bill, but Direct Propane was more than fair. I'm not just pleased -- I'm ecstatic. It's rare these days to find someone willing to tackle such a big problem for a complete stranger, but Josh did it with professionalism, kindness, and genuine dedication. The lady that works in the office is rude! I read reviews about how unfriendly she was, but had never experienced it for myself until yesterday. She ruined my whole day by patronizing me and being argumentative about what she believed I had told her (about how much propane was in my tank). I will NEVER USE DIRECT PROPANE AGAIN! What a racket these guys are running! Nickel and dime you to death, that's IF you can get the not friendly phone ladies to answer your questions. Then they wouldn't come out unless I let them completely fill the tank! It's a 500 Gal. Tank! No thank you! Absolute worst propane company I've ever dealt with. If you have options for a different propane company, don't go with Direct. My awful relationship with them started three years ago when I bought my home. I had no idea the tank on my property was leased or how that worked. They didn't even bother to contact me or to explain any of the details. Instead, they had a technician trespass on my property and remove the regulator on my tank without my knowledge. I only found out because I came home from work that day to find that my gas stove wasn't working and I no longer had hot water. I assumed I had run out of gas so I called them for a refill, only to be told that they disconnected my tank because they thought my "house looked abandoned." They came back and reinstalled my regulator and refilled my tank. Fast forward to 2021 and the polar vortex we experienced in Texas. I called and asked them to refill my tank, which completely ran out of gas just trying to heat my home for a few days, since it was so cold. The lady on the phone tells me they'll get someone out, but she can't tell me when. A week later I call back and ask her about the status. She says the same thing. They'll get someone out, but they're backed up right now. She says she will move me up on the priority list, but she can't tell me when I might get a delivery. It could be tomorrow, next week, or maybe next year. She can't say for sure, other than, it will happen one day. (Meanwhile, everyone in my neighborhood who uses a different propane company has long had their refills done after the cold weather hit.) Currently, I'm going on two weeks without hot water, heat, or a stove/oven to cook on since my appliances are gas. Thanks, Direct Propane. I'll also mention that they had no problem taking my money last month to pay for my tank rental, even though I haven't been able to use my tank now for two weeks. There system keeps kicking me out of auto pay schedule and they charge me late fee. I did pay late fee, which is OK. But asked can you fix your system, answer was nothing is wrong with the system. Nice scam setup here. Wont be surprised if they will sued once the run into a wrong person. read more

My review will hopefully help other people because the owners are good people but their staff is mean as hell. They've always been nasty to me even though I've been extremely nice to them when I would do business with them. But the straw that broke the camels back: buyer beware they kicked me out of the store because I informed them that if they sold bad livestock hay To me or anybody that made a animal sick that they could be sued! So they probably kicked me out of their store. All because I returned one bale of hay that was bad and would've made my livestock sick if they had eat it. And told me not to ever come back and do business with them. So just be aware that they don't really want your business. They think they're God. read more

This company is terrible. Do not use them. if you can get service from anyone else; do that. They are a Bait and Switch company. They will take every opportunity to charge you that they can. This company seems to be running some type of scam. I paid for 150 gallons of gas on 2-13-2021. They said the gas would be delivered the next day. To date, we still have no gas. Called the office and spoke to a woman . I was told that Megan is the manager. She said that they had no idea of when the gas would be delivered. I asked if they could at least give me 50 gallons so my tank would not run out. She said that would not work. I wonder if they even have any gas and just taking customers money. The absolute worst costumer service I've ever experienced. When you call to give them $400 to fill your tank they treat you like your a nuisance. They won't give you any time frame on scheduling. All I can say is even the manager Megan treated us poorly... talked over us while we were trying to get the service we already paid for. She was rude and disrespectful and lied about the driver coming out. Meanwhile, our young children and animals are in our house with no heat or hot water in record low 20 degrees in Austin. Wish I could give 0 stars. An in person orientation is required for new service. Planned our move in to coincide with their availability. When they didn't show up, I called 30 minutes after the appt window to confirm they were coming and was assured they would be here. Called a few minutes before closing to confirm again and was told they wouldn't be coming. Was left with no service and then charged $100 for them to come the next day. I called to ask them to refund that fee, and they refused because I called two weeks later and not right away. We have metered propane and if we had ANY other option, I would take it. read more

WE ARE VERY SORRY TO SEE DIRECT PROPANE BUY OUT MODERN PROPANE (We had excellent service with Modern propane for 20 years.) AFTER TWO SERVICES WITH DIRECT PROPANE, RICKY, THE OWNER OF DIRECT PROPANE, INSTRUCTED HIS STAFF TO NO LONGER SERVICE OUR HOME BECAUSE HIS DRIVERS DON'T WANT TO BOTHER EXTENDING THIER HOSE 140 FT TO FILL OUR TANK. YET, THEY CLAIM THEY WILL WILL SERVICE UP TO 150 FT. ON 2/26/19, after telling us they would come out to service home, RIcky had his dispatcher call us and cancel because "his drivers did not want to go through the trouble." I then called the receptionist to talk to Ricky, who was not available. She said he is our boss and we do what he tells us." Get this, after they called and cancelled, their gas truck drove past our home. I switched our service to Amerigas. They are $25 cheaper per 100 gallons and have excellent on-line service. Call Amerigas, they are America's largest service and will give you reliable service. read more

we are new to living in a house with propane. I use it for our water heater and our cooking range. We have a 500 gallon propane tank and lo and behold...we ran out during dinner prep at 6pm bc we forgot to check the tank periodically (ok, so we forgot to check for almost a year). I called at 8am the next morning and they got us in at 4 pm for an inspection (bc the tank was empty) and refill. the prices are very reasonable. can't complain much. they got us up and running again ! we would definitely recommend again. read more

Horrible customer service! I've never been so disrespected by a company in my life!! If I could do 0 stars I would! I never got the ladies name I spoke to, but it was the same person every time. She kept insisting I pay for services I didn't need and refused to have someone come to my house and fill my tank unless I agreed to pay extra for something I didn't need or want. She called me a liar multiple times, called my boyfriend and tried to tell him we needed all this extra stuff too. She told him I said a whole bunch of stuff that I never once said. Refused to transfer either of us up to her manager, just kept saying the owner said this or that. She would interrupt me when I was talking just to say the same thing she already said. I don't understand why I should be punished and have to pay extra money for something that she misunderstood. read more

I have been having issues with my current propane carrier, so I called Direct to see if they could service my tank, make a repair to the shut off valve. The lady looked up my address, and we were with Direct over a year ago... She says to me: "So since they can not help you, now you are coming back to us... " in this horrible rude manner. I was a direct propane customer for five years. Last year my business hit a rough patch and I was late paying my bill...stayed in contact and paid it a couple of months later, before my tank needed refilling. They removed me from the monthly check up program and the manager was rude and difficult each time I called for a refill. The day before thanksgiving I returned home after being gone for a week to find my tank empty with temperatures in the high 20's and low 30's. I called at 4:30 pm and the office closes at 6:00. They told me their drivers were not in my area and needed to get hone for thanksgiving. I said i understand but was out of town and that they had come out many times after hours for a fee. I spoke with the manager, explaining I was a long term customer, I had dogs and children and could they please come help She reminded me I had paid my bill late (a year ago) and that I should have called when my tank was low not empty. I spent the holiday weekend with no hot water and no heat. Worst customer service EVER. read more

I've called every Propane company in my area for a simple request. I need a tank, plumbing from the tank to my fireplace, and hook up a gas log set. No one would ever call back or show any interest. Finally called Direct Propane and got an immediate answer and appointment. Craig showed up promptly at agreed time, gave me a quote and when I approved the price he was once again on time to do the installation. I'm totally satisfied with the whole experience. Visited for the first time, operator was rude and deceptive. I had one 5 gallon tank that was 1/2 full and he charged me as if it was empty. When I asked about that he state there was a 5 gallon minimum charge per tank (but he never went off gallons only the weight of the tank). read more
