My experience with Direct Optical Superstore started great but is ending in small claims court. The woman I made the appointment with over the phone was very friendly. The Ophthalmologist was great and provided a much more comprehensive exam than I received in the past at Pearle Vision. And the "stylists" in the store were great. I worked with Marina (?) and someone else who helped me select frames that I really love. But in less than 3 weeks, the lenses were scratched and gouged. I went to the store and spoke with Robert. He said that the scratches were so severe they were not covered by their warranty. I explained that I've worn glasses for nearly 30 years and that I've never had any lenses get so scratched, period, let alone within only 2.5 weeks of ownership. I asked to speak with a manager. He said she would call me the next day. As promised the Owner called me the next day. Mariana repeated what Robert told me--that the lenses were so scratched that they would not be covered by warranty. I suggested that if the lenses were in such a defective state, that would be exactly what the warranty was for. I asked how it was possible that I could wear numerous other glasses for 30 years and never get such bad scratches. I also asked what would cause such terrible starches and she had no idea. She eventually offered to replace the lens at half price. I paid $584 for the glasses and this meant I would need to pay another $100+ to return them to non-defective condition. I continued to leave messages for Mariana with the store manager Pauline. I said I wanted them to replace the one lens at no charge to me or I would dispute the charges with my credit card company. After a few days of no call back, I filed the dispute. The dispute is still on-going and is wasting my time. So I posted a note on Facebook and LinkedIn saying that if Direct Optical didn't replace the lens at no charge that I would tell my colleagues and friends about my bad experience--I should spare my friends the hassle. Within a few hours, Mariana called me at work and threatened to tell my employee that I was threating her. I tried to reason with her that I wasn't threating her, but that I was just being honest. She told me to never contact them again or go into their store. I replied that her decision left me with only one other option--small claims court. All I want is for Direct Optical to replace the defective lens at no cost to me. I've tried to be reasonable and patient, but they have forced me to take greater action than I would have preferred. UPDATE: As promised, Direct Optical followed through on their assurance to call my employer. On June 21, Dennis Chaiken (the owner) called my office and asked for my supervisor. He was transferred to my business partner. Dennis left a voicemail requesting that my 'boss' call him back immediately as he had 'something very important to discuss regarding one of your employees'. I'm glad Dennis has the time to call my colleagues, but not call me or fix my lens. read more

I walked into Direct Optical because I was tired of waiting for my wife to finish shopping at Ikea. I ended up spending nearly $600. And I would do it again in a heartbeat. I never review businesses, I tend to keep my opinions to myself for the most part, but I have to rave about my experience in this store. I walked in and the guy behind the desk (ari I think) greeted me by meeting me halfway between the door and the desk (the store is huge) and while we walked toward the desk, he asked me how he could help me out today. I explained that I was just browsing and waiting for my wife at Ikea, but that I hadn't had an exam in a couple years and I was thinking about scheduling one. He was able to get me in almost immediately, it was around 1:30 on a saturday and I was in the doctors chair by 2. Before my exam, I started to look around at the big variety glasses and didn't really have any clue what I wanted, I was definitely overwhelmed. I must have looked lost because one of the employees approached me with the front desk guy and he introduced me to Rob, my optician. Both guys helped me pick my new glasses, neither of them hesitated to tell me whether something looked good or bad and really wanted me to be happy with my glasses. I picked a Polo frame and they held it aside when I had my exam. I met the Dr, I can't remember his name, he was a very quiet but very nice and he explained everything and answered all of my questions. I work on computers and my eyes bug me a lot. He helped me decide what the best type of prescription and lenses would be. It was by far the best exam I have ever had and I have been wearing glasses for 30 years. After my exam, Rob and Ari were waiting for me, and they got me all set up and I even got some sweet prada sunglasses. I don't have any vision coverage but they had some good deals going on, and I spent more than I wanted to initially, but it was worth it. No pressure, all friendly, these people genuinely cared about the level of service that they provde and loved what they do. Everyone that was working seemed to be happy and dedicated to making their customer feeling like they were the most important. Then I met the boss, she was really friendly, funny and personable. I must say that rarely am I as impressed with a business as I was with Direct Optical Canton. I currently manage/am responsible for over 400 employees and realize the challenges of always providing world class service. I must say that after leaving DO Canton would I not only HIGHLY recommend them to anyone but am impressed that such a business is right here in our MI backyard. I was overdue for new glasses and an eye exam as I usually have this done when I am traveling to California or Las Vegas. I always thought that there was a greater selection of glasses offered there. Several people had mentioned to me their great experiences with DO Canton so I thought I'd give them a try and scheduled an appointment for an exam even though they were about 30 minutes from me. Firstly, when I walked in I could not believe the size and design of the store. Besides being probably the largest optical store I had ever seen I could not believe the quality, name brand and huge selection offered. I was immediately greeted by Robert and taken in right away for my eye exam. The doctor there really knew what he was doing and asked me several questions that no other eye doctor had asked me before. I was then introduced to Mariana who helped me select my glasses. She did all of the work for me, selected 3 different pairs that not only were comfortable but looked great. She made the whole experience very relaxing, easy and comfortable. It didn't hurt that she's beautiful either. The prices were very reasonable and my frames were completed shortly thereafter. Needless to say I have received many compliments on my new glasses. This is on top of the fact that I am seeing much better with my new prescription. The only regret I have is that I wish I knew about them years ago. Kudos to Direct Optical Canton ! I have been a customer at Direct Optical for many years and when the Canton store opened I followed Mariana there. I would never get glasses from anywhere else. The store is beautiful and the staff is more than awesome. They will always make the best effort to give you the best pricing possible. I have a big melon, so it is can sometimes be difficult to find frames that fit me and that don't make me look like a "Get in the Van!" man. I have had awesome luck with Prada and Tom Ford and they didn't break the bank. My absolute favorite pair of glasses has to be my Oliver Peoples that Mariana picked out for me. The one time I picked out frames for myself and Mariana was not there it was not good, I looked like a hot mess. Robert is fantastic and they have a lab right there on site, twice now I have been able to walk in, get my eye exam and walk out with completed glasses. They aren't always able to do that, but in a pinch they can generally make it happen. Do not go anywhere else, do not trust your vision to an other optometrist. Even if you think you cannot afford nice glasses, go see them, I have noticed that they have a price-point for everyone, my entire family goes here because we have been patients since the 80's but we all started going to Canton when it opened. The atmosphere is much different than most other eyeglass places, they treat you like a member of the family, even if you have never been there before or are just browsing. Being a college student I wanted glasses that I could reasonably afford but that also gave me some style. When I went to Direct Optical, I was a little taken back because the store was like nothing I had seen before, so pretty and spacious. When I told one of the employees, Kevin, I had an exam special coupon from a local mailer, they immediately made me an appointment and started discussing promotional offers they had on pairs of glasses. The optometrist, Dr. Rudick, was very polite and knowledgeable. I have worn glasses for years, and his exam was the most thorough I have experienced. After the exam Kevin helped me pick out a frame that was not only stylish, but completely within my price range. And as a added bonus it was made by a designer I totally love! When I told Kevin I had to go back to school the following week and would not be able to pick up the glasses for a couple weeks, he offered to have the glasses ready for me within a half hour! I was extremely excited that they took care of me so fast and the promotional deal the store offered on the exam and glasses was something that couldn't have been beat by other stores. read more

I've been coming to Direct Optical - Canton for over eight years and have had a completely satisfactory, positive experience. The entire staff (and especially the owner) are very competent, helpful, and pleasant to work with. Optician Robert has work with me most recently, and is extremely knowledgeable, talented, and congenial. Dr. Rudick, their resident Optometrist, is the best I have ever known. I have been following him from location to location for probably 25 years or more, and I'm glad to see he is with Direct Optical. I previously had gone to an Ophthalmologist; however, Dr. Rudick's knowledge, skill, and concern for patient health is superb. I should note that I moved to Tennessee eight years ago, and although I have found new doctors there for other medical purposes, I still go to Dr. Rudick at Direct Optical in Michigan. Awesome customer service. They greeted me right when I walked in. The gentleman helping me pick my frames was mindful of my tight budget and didn't try to con me into something more expensive, plus the frames he picked looked fabulous on me. He has a great eye for what looks good on people! The woman who helped me with my order was also mindful of my budget and didn't try to push me into unnecessary add-ons. She also straightened out a minor issue with my insurance. The frame selection is tremendous and the prices are very reasonable. This is my very first review of any kind ever. they were so helpful and nice I signed onto YELP to write this. Go see Marina, she is very nice and friendly, with no pressure to buy anything. I was looking for my first ever pair of glasses, and not only did she walk me through everything, she helped me pick out some very stylish glasses. I had to bring in my sunglasses for repair after my buddies dog ate them. Not only did she spend 45 minutes fixing them for FREE, she did so with with such a pleasant attitude. If you have sensitivities to fragrances, do not go to this store. The Direct Optical staff have always been very customer focused. They are knowledgeable and very helpful. However, I will probably not go there again because they fill their store -- including the exam room - with some artificial fragrance that irritated my asthma and made me nauseous. Staff claimed it was incense or a candle. I saw a glade plug-in thing in the exam room. They said I could call before I come and they will turn it off, but "there may be some residual scent remaining." read more

Recently just visited Direct Optical for an eye exam with Dr. Karana, and I can't say enough how pleasant my experience was at this store. Dr. Karana throughly went through the exam and was very patient and professional. She answered any questions I had and was a pleasure to work with. She also sat down with me afterwards and explained all my options regarding contact lenses and frames. The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful as well. Worth the drive coming out here! Love that all the staff was wearing masks and taking proper precautions during this pandemic. I observed tables, doors and frames all being disinfected while I was waiting for my exam. This store is huge, so social distancing isn't an issue here. The Doctor wiped down all of her equipment in front of me before she began, which made me feel at ease. The staff here is really friendly and attentive and helped me find a frame I love. Selection is huge. I ended up getting both glasses and sunglasses with my prescription. read more

Okay people ! PAY ATTENTION! I came in to get my contacts and was informed they polished frames. I said omg for sure cuz these frames are so beat up. THE BEST 50 bucks I ever spent! My frames look brand new. Please trust me people if u don't have the money to buy new frames just get them polished. I came here with broken frames (purchased elsewhere) and Robert repaired them on the spot at no charge. A month later I purchased a new pair of eyeglasses using my new prescription from my doctor. I am so pleased with my new glasses thanks to Robert who spent a lot of time with me selecting the type of lens, tint (transitions) etc. but also when I picked up the eyeglasses he made sure they fit correctly.
