Anyhow, face to face with my sub-aquatic nemesis, I was truly amazed by this place. They have just about every possible type of fish and seafood one can think of, and more besides. I don't know how common this kind of comprehensive fish/seafood emporium is elsewhere, but I reckon it has to be worth a visit to Manchester alone and if you have some small children you could take, all the better! It's like some kind of edible museum. An aquarium of exotic tastes, no less. The staff were incredibly friendly too. I was told that the Conger Eel is often bought by African customers and you buy it by the slice. Other residents included huge bream and carp, a plethora of jet black catfish nestled barb to barb at the front of one side of the gargantuan oval counter and several decapitated fish heads, which according to the monger, are bought and used for fish stock. Further still along this plank of plenty, was the seafood section replete with pink spider crabs, king and emperor prawns, and an assortment of shellfish that ranged from cockles and whelks to oysters. Getting served is a bit of a free-for-all. It's all about catching the eye of one of the fishmongers, who after you've made your choice will de-scale and gut the fish in front of your very eyes. I needed some prawns and mussels to pop into a fish pie. The guy serving me popped a good few extra in the bag just to be nice, and I had an amazing amount of goodies for just £3. You can order from any of the set menu meals on the large board at the back or essentially mix and match anything you want - they even cook some meals to order rather than serving it from the counter. The staff are friendly and I was served and got my food in just a matter of minutes! They do get busy, which is a good sign! My noodles were fresh and had only just bee put out. I took it back to my office to eat and it was well packaged and still piping hot. I'll go here a lot whilst working in the city!

When I submitted an appeal, UKPS completely ignored it, only for me to later receive a notice from a debt collection agency, adding even more stress. For those who want to visit this restaurant, be careful and reconsider, cause you will RECEIVE A PARKING CHARGE that cause you 100 POUNDS for parking even you had a meal and shopping there!!!

Turns out you have to go round the back (it's signposted for the restaurant, but the supermarket is here too). First up - social distancing, since it is 2020 after all. This is all handled really well - lots of signs about wearing face masks, antibacterial gel as you enter, marks on the floor for 2m distancing and screens around the checkouts; payments can be contactless; staff wear masks and gloves and even pass you your receipt in a plastic box. I'd say they're doing a better job than most shops full stop. OK, on to the produce - as you might expect you can get lots of ingredients for Chinese cooking here but there's so much more as well, with most east-Asian cuisines catered for from Vietnam to Japan. There's also a substantial amount of fresh meat and veg available, plus chiller and freezer cabinets as well as your store-cupboard staples. There are also appliances and things like crockery for sale. If you're running a business, there's a substantial cash and carry section at the far right of the store. Manchester has a few specialist supermarkets like this, but I think Wing Yip wins in terms of breadth of offering.

Situated down in China Town and opposite I am Pho, it's a bit narrow and claustrophobic but it's worth it if you're on your way back to Piccadilly station (like I often am) and looking to pick up some tasty Asian ingredients) There's frozen seafood and meats in the back, plus frozen dim sum and pork buns - loads of drinks, booze, sauces, spices and pickles - plus their selection of fresh fruit is pretty awesome, I'm amazed by how much variety all of these shops around here stock! They also seem to have a sideline in electronics and fixing things - I really wish I could read Mandarin/Cantonese as I reckon there's some cool stuff to be found here. They unlock phones too, I had my iphone done here at a much lower price than the high street!

I like browsing Chinese supermarkets I happen upon and quite often buy a drink or snack for the road, and today I found a great range of non-dairy coconut mochi frozen snacks in a freezer by the entrance. I opted for a box of 6 of mixed flavours (£3.65) - vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, mango, black sesame, and green tea. Maybe a bit pricey to buy regularly when I could get a big tub of ice cream for that, but they are imported from Thailand, and it's great to try a new frozen treat that's ready to eat.

Open from 2am till 10am you will normally fins this place bustling with traders normally from Shops or Restaurants (its not unusual to see people with orders of £1000 and over being done here). I no longer buy my heavily injected chicken breasts from Tescos or Asda any more. Here i buy 5KG boxes (normally 20+ breast's pending on size) for no more then £24 (prices depend on daily trading price). Theres loads more to choose from as well. But beware its mostly wholesale which means buying bulk. But with free parking at Smithfield if you have a van or a car & freezer space then this is a great place to get fresh butcher, fish monger quality meat before it reaches your butcher or fish monger.
