Another fine local business institution - a proper butchers shop with 3-4 different counter areas selling everything from meats to pies, fresh bakery bread and supplies to keep you going such as chutneys and jams. Now I'm the sort of the guy that come even a hint of chilliness in the air has to revert to Sunday lunch being 'Full English Roast' time and now we're into mid October a juicy piece of beef of pork was on my shopping list! I was impressed that at Mettrick's there were so many options in terms of what you could buy with me performing a full 180 and going for some oxtail for (1kg was £8 Oct 2014) a stew (my half made up West Indian oxtail slow cooked stew was awesome by the way...) The staff were friendly, said they could pretty much order anything I ever wanted in which was really refreshing in this day and age of cheap supermarket meat. A definite winner - hopefully I'll be picking up some bacon and burgers next time I'm in town!

I'm sure you can pick up a good bargain here every once in a while but there are better independents, even along this road. The staff are friendly enough but not so impeccable/ cheery as to rave about them. It is also not so light and airy in here exactly; adding to the whole feeling of mediocre. Still, if you like to see your meat laid out before you and have a good think about which one to cook for dinner, you might as well stop by Roy Greens.

A fantastic little Deli on Glossop's high street - a real champion of the local area and somewhere…read morethat myself and wife enjoyed visiting when we were in Glossop for the day last week. Fresh bread, meats and cheeses - plus loads of deli items such as chutneys and olives are on offer - and some very tasty looking bread which I will definitely get next time we're visiting. We purchased some lovely Italian bread sticks (think you know supermarket breadsticks? they're not proper breadsticks - try these one from Praze) and a big tub of olives which were amazing. We go chatting with the owner who was super friendly and welcoming - if you're in Glossop make sure you check out Praze, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

It's a tesco's, you know what to expect! Except in the cafe area! OMG. They Employ a woman who…read moredoesn't know her arse from her elbow and serves at the speed of a very slow disorganized snail! If you want to wait in a queue for over half an hour when there are only 4 people in front of you, and watch a mad woman count the breakfast items over 7 times, then this is your idea of heaven. The cafe let's down an otherwise good tesco's store.

I must say though that the cafe went downhill recently and since they started self-service the food is often lukewarm or cold. As a supermarket, the shelves are well stocked and the staff are friendly and helpful. There's plenty of checkouts so there's rarely a queue, especially since they introduced self-service checkouts. The store is open 24 hours (except on Sundays) but the best time to shop is after 6pm where many short-dated items are yellow-stickered and you can pick up a bargain for the freezer.
