Sure enough, never heard a whisper from the pawn shop, but I had also made a police report & when my serial #s pinged back at this pawn shop, they acted like they had no idea what could've happened, completely dodged the responsibility of contacting me, & then made me buy my stolen goods back (this is PA state law, and a flawed one at that, but still added insult to injury.) So I guess no big surprise that this is a shady af pawn shop, but if your items go missing, be aware that they may end up here & the people working here will lie to your face about it.

I'm a professional guitar player who was visiting Philadelphia from the west coast and decided to check out local music stores. The store was clean but beyond appearances this place was terrible. All the guitars I tried were dirty and out of tune; I told an employee that the truss rod needed to be adjusted on one and he didn't know what that was (a music store employee should know what that means). I couldn't hear myself try the guitar because the sole employee was signing and playing at the top of his lungs. I then asked him about how the teacher employment worked at their store and not only could he not answer, but he couldn't give me anyone's email or phone number to contact with questions. Very rude in general. Ive been in hundreds of music stores and this was among the worst

Since I didn't have a credit card at the time (now I do) I had to walk out and take lessons elsewhere. I ended up taking them at DiPinto guitars and there were no payment hassles from them.

Chris is a good man and has attention to detail. Great all around axe grinder, and plays upside down! He has good stuff in general, but his vintage stuff is hard to beat! A 54 Syncromatic? A rosewood Telecaster? Pretty rare! Loved a lawsuit Kent 12 I got there, I did the bridge work, and what a harp! Wish I had the ducats to get a tube rig, they've got great stuff just laying around! He's fare on deals and I think he teaches too. We are so lucky here in Fishtown. I want to buy the hanger out of the window, but he warns me about block work. Not that I wouldn't try to fix it, but he knows the man hours, and tells me what I needed to know in 2 seconds! Good job, Chris. You make us proud here.... read more

The Dipinto Bacchus did a fantastic job of replacing my Gibson ES 345 while it was beng refinished for several months. I have played many guitars over the years, and the tone, action, construction and finish are second to none in its price range and way beyond! Thanks, Chris for making such a wonderful instrument which will see many more gigs in the future. Also, your stock of good used equipment has helped me out many times over the years, and I always look forward to checking out your inventory. read more

I bought a DiPinto Mach IV about 5 months ago and have been extremely satisfied with the sound. And I'm glad to support a local Philadelphia guitar company. I've been there a handful of times now, and Crash and the rest of the guys are really knowledgeable about their products and just guitars and equipment in general. Aside from their own line of guitars, they also have a pretty cool selection of vintage instruments and amps. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

There are reasons I've been going to DiPinto Guitars for 20+ years - they're a family business and part of the neighborhood, where you get personal attention from owner and staff - always interesting selection of used and vintage gear for sale - Chris designs and builds cool guitars like no one else's - they do great repairs and mods of all kinds, like the neck reset I just picked up today - awesome job - thanks! read more

I must be special indeed I own 2 dipintos (lefties) a galaxie IV and a Bacchus... IINHO the Galaxie is one of the best single coil guitars out there (mine is surf green) and what can I say about the bacchus.. for under a grand its like stealing.. easily as good as a high end ibanez artcore. read more

The gentleman running the counter seemed generally annoyed that I was there and wanted to take the guitar for a test ride before I spent 1000 dollars on it. Every time I stopped playing for a second he would say "So what do you think" sort of like it was a conversation ender. I played for total of 5 minutes was in the store for 10 to 15 minutes. We said maybe two words to each other, normally that wouldn't bother me, but the store is small and it's pretty awkward to not speak in that situation. And for the record I'm generally an easy guy to talk to who tried to initiate conversation (Former Bartender). I will say some kids came in when I was about to leave and he was very friendly to them. My search for a friendly guitar shop in the Philly area continues.

When you first walk in, it looks like a small average guitar shop, but if you look closer, you'll see it is anything but ordinary. They have pretty much ever pedal every made, nicely displayed in a huge set of cases. But the real magic happens when you venture upstairs. Never before in any guitar shop have I seen such a collection of amplifiers. Matchless, Buddha, Suhr, Engl, Marshall, Fender, Orange, Vox, Diveded by 13 and many many more. It was like I had died and gone to amp heaven. There were so many I was actually a little overwhelmed with where to start. Lou, the owner, and his associate were amazing. I spent about 2 hours playing about 5 amps with there help, then had him draw up a quote to order me a custom one. They were amazing. In addition to the unbelievable assortment of amps, they have dozens of high end guitars. Many boutique and custom shop one of a kind guitarswith exotic woods. They have a ton of a guitar called a Warrior, which is a brand I have never heard of until today, but they seem amazing. The inlay work was remarkable. I feel lucky to have discovered this gem and look forward to doing business with them. I will be back soon!

I…read morelive in west Philly and as a collector of all things vtg 1950's, I was excited to take a new (to me) 1950's record player to the record shop to inquire about repairs. The person I purchased from told me it needed a new needle. Whether or not that's true I'll never know. The associate who helped me the day I dropped the player off was not the issue. They took a look at it, told me I needed to pay $20 for labor, and said they'd call me when they had a chance to look it over. I told the employee that I'd be willing to pay upwards of $150 to have it working because it was in really great shape cosmetically, and I WAS thrilled to have found it and bought it. It was beautiful..Money was not an issue, because this thing meant something to me. I was very vocal about this when I dropped it off. 2-3 weeks went by and I got a call. The person I spoke to was not the same person I handed the player over to. They told me that it was too complicated to fix and "not worth their time and effort." I Found that comment to be a dismissive, but whatever, they don't want to do it, that's fine, I wasn't mad. I told the person over the phone that I would be by to pick it up. Conversation ended. That week I stopped by the record shop to get it, and the person I spoke to on the phone was there. I know this because he told me he threw it away. The entire time we are having this exchange, he doesn't once look up from whatever it is he was reading or writing or whatever, all I knew in that moment was that a complete stranger was informing me that he had trashed my property, in a " I give zero fucks," kinda way. No eye contact, and no apology. It's like I was bothering him when I asked why they would do something like this after I told them I was coming to pick it up. His response was "that's not how I recall our conversation going." I am a west Philly nanny and had the babes I care for with me, so I calmly closed the door that day, but have felt livid ever since. I really try not to think about it, but its pretty impossible when I'm still waiting for a response to the email I sent them. I'll spare you the details about how painful this feels to have something that's irreplaceable, and gorgeous, just thrown away, especially because they advertize as A RECORD REPAIR SHOP..I really thought they might give a suit about what they do but it defineitly doesn't seem that's way. The careless employee who trashed my record player actually said out loud that I told them I didn't want it. WHAT! Considering he couldn't take one second to look up at me while telling me he trashed my property, doesn't bode well for someone trying to claim they were paying attention to the conversation In the first place. Take accountability! Apologize, or at the very least respond to my message on your website. Really wish I had gotten that dudes name, but I will be looking into that, and will update. I asked them to refund me the $20 and pay me the cost of the player. That's $70 It's not like I'm asking for a lot here, But like I said, they chose to do absolutely nothing other than take my money and destroy my property. I've been chatting w people in my community and it's seems this place has a reputation, and it's not pretty. If you want repairs done, look elsewhere. I sent the email to the record shop like two months ago. I waited and waited and waited before coming here. They literally left me co other choice.
