Signed up for a diving class through here and although I've only been to a few of the sessions, it's going well and the employees have all been professional. If you're interested in learning how to dive, definitely check out Dip-N-Dive. They offer multiple certification sessions. Some of them are once a week and other more fast track programs are twice a week (evenings) and generally only take ~8 classes or so. The equipment here is priced really high and if you are going to sign up for their diving class, they will ask you to have your own snorkel, mask and fins, weight belt, belt and boots. Those items will run close to $400, so just be aware of the additional expenses you'll incur. Certified advanced recreational diver for approx. 12 years and have been going to DND for just about all of my gear, minus field purchases. My experiences have been all over the board on my travels, and mostly positive in my diving career. It has been a fantastic sport to be part of, divers are an awesome breed. The crew at DND are completely professional, knowledgeable and my favorite part, objective in their opinions. I've bought lower price range gear as I started out which performed fantastically on their advice. Low end to high end, they seem to only carry gear they can stand behind, which I love. This is an expensive sport, but if serviced properly (of which DND is fantastic in their skill) your gear will last you a long time. My original gear purchases are going on their second decade and work perfectly. They also offer a substantial gear discount for those who complete their open water certification, better than anything you'll find online! I've also taken refresher classes with them and its clear time and again, safety is paramount, as it should be. If you want to give it a shot, don't hesitate to jump in with Dip n Dive. At first I was annoyed that they insisted on teaching in person instead of online like most places. Now that I am certified, I cannot be more happy. Compared to friends who took the easy online option I can say that I am a better diver for the experience. After becoming certified I was fully confident in my ability to head out and explore on my own (with a dive buddy). At no time did I doubt my abilities. I attribute this to the serious manner in which the staff teaches students and cares about each one being safe while having fun. The staff treats students and graduates like family and they are the reason I continue to go there for all of my gear needs! Plus the owner Chris is a stone cold fox! read more

Disappointment!!!! I went in to this know my physical limits thinking a positive attitude, lots of hard work and shear determination would get me through this. Now, keep in mind I was certified years ago and knew what was required. Oh, I should have mentioned why I wanted to go through this whole process again in the first place "guidance-professional" Chris states that is what he is there for, however, in my case, when I when in to the shop after my failed open water dive. Chris's words of wisdom to me were "let's call a spade a spade." I was destroyed. I now knew I was on my own to figure out what went wrong and how to correct it. My last trip to the shop was again negative and Chris tried to convince me that he took the time to discuss this with me. I guess it is reasonable to believe he properly advised me and despite the fact that I worked in the pool every day for months, and could taste salt water with desire, I defied his advice and chose to fail. I could not even get help attaching my snorkel to my mask...asked instructor at pool-ignored (student assisted), went to shop-ignored so long a customer finally came over and helped me. We've spoken to our account manager and several other people at that BigBlue to confirm this exact shipment, which they did. I felt compelled to write a review in response to "Joey P." since I feel that his review is nothing more than a feeble attempt to hurt a good standing local company. I've been diving with Dip 'n Dive for many years, all the way back to it's previous owners and they've been nothing but an outstanding company here in WNY. They are very professional, nice and helpful. I've sent MANY divers to Dip 'n Dive for years now and they've all experienced similar results. It is my understanding that "Chris" is the store manager and not the owner and frankly I've dealt with him many times and he's never come off as that type of individual. The prices at Dip 'n Dive are reasonable, just like you'd pay at any other store/shop. "Joey P." comment of: "Warning: If you receive scuba training from any of the people at this facility, you will probably drowned from the lack of experience they provide. " Is just plain obvious that's he's NEVER dove through Dip 'n Dive and/or he's from a local competitor who's trying to bolster it's business by writing this. Being from Baltimore, MD, it's abundantly obvious that his review was just a smear campaign against Dip 'n Dive. Once i was visiting my friends in Buffalo. They wanted to bring new experience in my life and suggested to try scuba diving. As i have never tried it before, i had neither dive clothing nor even a single experience in diving. Luckily, my friends found Dip-n-Dive -a diving center that was giving scuba-diving lessons. I took the intro dive course with Chris and company at Dip n Dive and did my open water dive with them up in Ontario in preparation for a trip to Cozumel. It was well worth it. The DnD staff are great instructors in that they will respect you as a novice but at the same time push you to get comfortable under many different circumstances underwater to cover any potential concerns that might arise. During my open water dive and subsequent ocean dives I felt in control of myself and my equipment. Thankfully no problems arose, but I came out of the class feeling that I could manage to safety if needed. That said, feeling comfortable with my equipment and skills allowed me to just enjoy the underwater envrionments around me, which was incredible. Speaking generally, scuba as a sport is liberating and will satisfy not only a love for marine life/ecosystems but also any childhood fantasies of being an astronaut that still linger (once you're in a current effortlessly moving/hovering over a reef you'll know what I mean). I can't wait to go again. If you're in WNY and want to learn to dive, this is your place. I'd also plug their store. While they won't necessarily give you the biggest discount out there, they will fit you right for your size/anatomy or correct it if they didn't quite get you what you need. I needed to downsize fins after 2 classes and Chris did so without charge, without question...which is something very few on Amazon would ever do. Good place, great instructors.
