Great diving instruction, wonderful merchandise at great prices. This is a real winner of a shop. If you want to learn to dive, come here.

Phoenix SCUBA of Buffalo's new shop on South Park Ave is awesome. Their larger retail space, a…read morededicated training area, and an expanded service department is next level from the old Ridge Road location, where they have been doing business for the last 22 years. They can now display a wide range of quality diving equipment and have factory-trained service technicians on staff for all the brands they carry. I also like the easy in-and-out service for air fills. Owners Carole and Tony Anderson have been prominent figures in the Western New York underwater community for decades. Tony Anderson has taught SCUBA in WNY for over 50 years and has participated in discovery teams for several wrecks in Lake Erie and Tobermory, Canada. He is an instructor trainer for Scuba Schools International and Divers Alert Network. Carole Anderson has been diving for 26 years and a Scuba Schools International instructor for 23 years. She is also a Divers Alert Network instructor and is currently in her 8th year as the dive safety officer for the Aquarium of Niagara. Her knowledge combined with a little tough love keeps all of her students alive.

We enrolled in a scuba course with the intention of learning in a safe, professional, and supportive environment. Unfortunately, what I encountered was the opposite. Communication was poor from the start -- schedules were unclear, and I often had to follow up multiple times just to get basic information. During training, I witnessed a level of disorganization and lack of professionalism that raised real concerns about safety and adherence to industry standards. Instructors seemed overwhelmed or disinterested, and basic expectations for structure and clarity simply weren't met. I've submitted a formal complaint to SSI (Scuba Schools International), and they are currently investigating the matter under their Quality Management System. While SSI has limited authority over how individual training centers operate beyond official standards, I appreciated their willingness to take the concerns seriously. I believe scuba training is something that should be handled with the utmost professionalism and care -- and unfortunately, Phoenix Scuba did not deliver on that. There are many great dive shops out there -- I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Customer focused: Joe and Dianne were very accommodating to work around all of our schedules for our particular needs. They invested a lot of time with the kids, were patient, gave them great learning tasks and were very positive. Both kids loved them. Joe is an excellent instructor. Flexible: When I found out that I didn't have quite the same certification as I thought, they accommodated us with a very tight schedule graciously so I could get everything in and dive with the rest of the family on the trip. Expertise: As others have reviewed, the merchandise may be more expensive than online, but if you spend an hour with someone knowledgeable getting the right gear, should that expertise be free and the items sold at cost? If you want cheap and to figure it out yourself, go to Amazon. If you want someone who is knowledgeable and will help you find just the right thing and make sure you are prepared, support this local business. I wish I had known about it sooner!

They were very understanding of my mother's concerns (she's scared of drowning) and they invited her after I finished my pool training to come and watch me in the pool to show her that it was safe, and I was trained. I drove home from college to buy gear here, because I trust them (their prices are essentially the same as online and they show you how to maintain the gear and get everything connected properly). I have never felt that I was pressured to buy anything, or the most expensive option when I expressed interest in buying gear. They listen to your needs, what you want, and make a recommendation based on that. Thanks ACR, Alex

I went on a Discover Scuba Diving course today and the experience was amazing. Even though this…read morewasn't a certification course I still got a taste of what scuba diving was like, and if I want to pursue a certification in the future the experience does count for some credits. We arrived at the My Dive Center to get an overview of what scuba diving is like and we went through some terminologies and safety precautions before we got fitted for our gears. The Diving Masters there are all PADI certified. Our instructor/Diving Master Theo was really knowledgeable and was super friendly, and I totally appreciate his effort in accommodating our big group of 10 to get us fitted for our equipment. After the lecture we went to the swimming pool at a local high school. The diving equipment that we received today included the diving mask, buoyancy controlled diving vest, oxygen tank, and the fins to wear on the feet. At the pool we were split into small groups 4 to 5 to get a more personal lesson with another instructor. My instructor Matt went through with us how to put on the equipment and guided us through the basic diving skills before letting us get a taste of the scuba diving experience. Even though I somewhat struggled at the fog-clearing exercise, Matt was really helpful and patient with me at guiding me through the process. In total we spent around 3 hours in the water and I totally enjoyed every second of it. I highly recommend everyone to give Discover Scuba Diving a try, especially if you're thinking of getting certified.

What an amazing experience and an absolutely amazing team!…read more My husband and I wanted to get our Scuba Diving certification, as we were leaving for vacation to Mexico and wanted to go diving there. We decided to do the Referral Program, which is basically the theory + confined water dives with 1 Scuba Outfit, and the final open water dives can be completed anywhere in the world, where there is a PADI shop. After much research, and talking to few shops around Toronto, we decided to go with Yoon Chin at My Dive Center. And we are SO GLAD that we did. Initially we were a bit cautious, and their rates were a bit cheaper than some of the other shops we had spoken to, for the same course, and we didn't want the quality of the training compromised due to lesser price being offered, but after speaking to Yoon, I felt super comfortable. Yoon is such am amazing person, and a wonderful instructor. He went out of way to accommodate us (we were working on a very tight schedule), and he made sure that we got all the theoretical training we needed before going into the pool. In the pool, we were trained by instructors Marty and Pat. The pool they rent is not at the shop of the dive center, it's a separate community center and they just rent the facility. And it's a great space for the pool classes. Marty and Pat were both absolutely amazing (and lots of fun be around!!). They made everyone feel comfortable and at ease with the whole process. It was a bit scary initially (especially for me, I had just learned to swim as an adult a year or two ago) but it was honestly so much fun! I honestly couldn't recommend them more. So much so that we even considered doing the full course with these guys (the open water dives, in lake Ontario) but we just didn't have the time otherwise we would have done so. Yoon and his team are extremely passionate about diving, very serious about safety and a lot of fun!!
