There are a lot of positive things to say about the experience my mother had at Brookdale over the…read more3 1/2 years she lived there. The folks who provide support and assistance were amazing, especially Filomena Lawless and Steve Murphy. Filomena offers such kindness to both residents and their families, and for that I am forever grateful. Steve was a text away, offering quick responses and helping us find who best to speak to in a few cases. The care staff in Assisted Living were incredibly helpful, especially Darlene and Mom's favorite caregiver, Bob, and kept a close eye on Mom's health, even picking up on health issues she hid from us. Mom made a wonderful friend and cribbage companion during her time there, a late in life relationship whose loss was particularly difficult for her. When she had problems with her room, both in independent and assisted living, the staff responded quickly and they were easy to interact with and very friendly. Joe, the man who provides transport, was always ready with a friendly joke and appropriate teasing and always brought a smile to Mom's face. He also brought her several cards after she was out of the buidling for a health issue. The front desk staff were helpful. So why only three stars? Mom was never very happy about the overall food quality on a day to day basis. Given the rental cost and the fact that that cost increased every year, we would have been happy to pay the increase if there were tangible improvements. During the time she lived there, whenever I would talk to local folks about Brookdale, especially people who had family there, the food quality seemed to be a common theme. The biggest complaint I have came at the end of her stay. At that point, you know that despite the friendliness and care of so many people, ultimately this is a business designed to make money and answer to a board of directors. Mom had to enter a hospital and then a rehab facility and we were hopeful for a time she would be able to return to her apartment. Once it was clear we needed to vacate her apartment, we began the process of recovering rent and assisted living care costs that had been automatically withdrawn from her checking account, per Brookdale's policy. At that point, she was in a rehab facility that was no longer covered by insurance, so she was in need of those funds, amounting to thousands of dollars. Each time we attempted to get an answer about the timeline, we received a different answer about how the process worked and when we would receive her refund. When we tried face to face meetings to that end, the director became testy. It took a full two months after she was completely moved out of Brookdale to finally have the funds in our hands. Bottom line: there are a lot of positive things about this facility, but beware it is a corporation - slow to change and respond.

They love the food, they've made some new friends and they've been well taken care of. Covid has meant some adjustments but things are mostly back to normal now that everyone has been vaccinated. I recommend it as a safe and enjoyable place for your parents to live.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES allow your loved one to come here! This Genesis facility is poorly run and…read moreincredibly understaffed. Rooms meant for one person have two people crammed into them. Four people shared a tiny bathroom with a door that was extremely hard to open or close. Not bathed for NINE days (and got a rash), clothing was not changed daily, urine soaked clothing was left on bed to soak through her bedspread, walker was repeatedly left out of reach and she could not stand without it, food was subpar, no PT or OT consults as needed, patients left moaning and soiled in the hallway. Lunch aids left her in unsafe position sitting on the side of the bed because "that's how we do it." Upon entering the facility, you are met with stench from soiled laundry left in the entrance hallway and a surly young male clerk at the entrance who snarled at me when I told him they were out of hand sanitizer. Some staff were helpful, kind, and competent and clearly doing their best under daunting circumstances. Some websites list them as having a five star rating which is completely insane and inaccurate!! I've visited 10 nursing homes my life and this is the worst one! We got her out of this nightmare after 2 weeks. I've heard that Genesis has sold their nursing homes in the last year or so and that they are ALL terribly understaffed and underperforming. RUN from any of their facilities! Check out St. Clare's in Newport or Forest Farm in Middletown for skilled nursing care that accepts Medicaid, and Franklin Court for assisted Living in Bristol.

I enjoy watching the water n ducks every morning from my car because walking with a cane has become a struggle but I do try my best to walk on my own. I would like to apologize to the employee who had to witness my colonostmy bag erupting and I would like to address her question that was asked very loudly if "do you have to do that here" my apologies madam , I did need to do that asap and it was not there that I planned to do it , I would have had to "do it" wherever I was when my colonoscamy bag erupted, I did not intentionally go there to drain my colonospomy bag. I have had it for 18 months n will have it for however long I live and besides my apologies I would like to thank you , miss white woman with long black straight hair for reminding me not everyone is going to care for a stranger who is suffering from cancer , I wish you the best and the employees seem to agree with you when I asked the older gentlemen with Grey hair but in contrast he assured me no employee there would treat a stranger with a colonosapy bag in a curse manner. It was my naivity to think a health care company who has their mission statement to help those who are sick would employ ppl whose morals an attitude would align with the company
