From the moment she moved in, she was surrounded by warmth, friendship, and opportunity. The grounds are absolutely beautiful -- especially the peaceful wooded area in the back, where she enjoyed walking and spending quiet time in nature. Inside, the gathering spaces are inviting and thoughtfully designed, making it easy for residents to connect, relax, and feel at home. One of the things she appreciated most was how intellectually and socially engaging life at Laurelmead is. She looked forward to the regular educational talks, musical performances, movie nights, and the many activities that kept each week interesting and fulfilling. There was always something to enjoy, but never any pressure -- just a wonderful sense of community. The dining experience was another highlight. The dining room is lovely, and she genuinely enjoyed the wide variety of menu choices and the quality of the meals. Dining became a social event she looked forward to every day. The Highlands is an assisted-living facility populated by two groups of residents: a…read morehigh-functioning group, some of whom may need medical/personal. attention at some point but are in most respects independent, a wide range of less capable residents who eat most meals in the dining room, and a group who eat and stay in their rooms most of the time. There is also a large group in a segregated floor for those with dementia and memory loss. Very few if any of the residents are intellectually intact. The staff are polite and competent, some are excellent and dedicated, but turnover and absenteeism are high. Assisted showers are possible but the standard is at most once a week. The food is not the worst institutional fare I have ever had, but when combined with poor service and a toxic social atmosphere in the dining room the result is very poor. There have been at least a dozen cooks in my time, and none of them were capable of cooking a Brussels sprout . Waitstaff were nice but oblivious and untrained. The facility is clean and quiet .

We have had Home Instead watch after our mother for several months now and generally speaking - it…read morehas been okay. One CNA in particular has been terrific when she is here. Home Instead apparently has issues when CNAs call in sick...etc. and apparently do not have ample staff to cover such events (surprising as this is their business). This has caused our family many issues due to last minute cancelations which is sort of ironic as we need to give 7 days notice for schedule changes but they can do it to us at the drop of a dime. What is VERY upsetting is that recently we gave notice that we would be making a change for our mother's care and gave 7 days notice. Yesterday we received a call telling us that the CNA scheduled could not come for the remaining several days and that there was no replacement either. Thanks for being professional Home Instead!!! Nothing like putting it to us / and our mother on the way out. I only hope that this review doesn't mysteriously disappear like some of the others I see out there. I would urge anyone looking for CNA services to ask a lot of questions and be prepared to jump in at the last minute and cover for the inevitable scheduling issues which we experienced far too often..... oh - and dont tell them your leaving until the last minute or they will leave you hanging!

Challenging perhaps on pricing depending on one's means, but it's worth it to me to place my mom in an environment that makes her WANT to live (and eat and engage) and not have her in a 'cost-effective' facility the makes her NOT want to live. And Michael and Monica have been outstanding. We are just starting the process and are hoping it all works out. You had better be rich (or close to it) because they want verification you have the means to cover the cost of caring for your loved one for a minimum of 3 years! If you don't, then don't bother applying to this place. The facility managing staff came across as caring more about money than people.
