My grandfather was housed here during the start of covid for rehabilitation after breaking his leg. He had great nurses and therapist while here. At the time they wouldn't let visitors in but we were able to pick up and drop-off laundry and other personal items. He had no complaints once he was discharged. read more

My wife recently needed short term rehab after a hospital stay. I will start by prefacing that Cedar Crest, or the Cedars as it's now known was not the first choice, but the places we wanted (Cherry Hill), did not accept our insurance. I was somewhat concerned with the negative reviews, but in the end we were very happy. During the roughly 10 days she was there, I visited at various times, and the residents seemed happy and well cared for without the stink you sometimes see in places like this. The meals were actually pretty good here, and better than the food that my wife had in the hospital. Everything was also kept very clean. I don't remember too many names,other than a LPN named Bette and a CNA named Joanna who were very kind to Lynn. The only things keeping it from 5 stars was the lack of communication at times. They could have done a little better job keeping me informed of my wife's progress. The room was also a little small when she did have a neighbor. Otherwise, I felt that this was a successful stay and would consider it if a family member needed this kind of care again. read more

My mother was sent to Cedar Crest for PT and to heal, following surgery for a fractured hip. Unlike many of their patients, she is a "young" 69 years old, very active, independent, etc, who generally is healthy and vibrant. However within one week of her stay, I saw a transformation that haunts me to this day. In short, my mother takes a specific medicine, four times daily, which she has been on for over 20 years. This medication MUST BE TAKEN AS PRESCRIBED and NEVER decreased suddenly. Within a few days she began to demonstrate extreme personalty changes, so I inquired about her medications. Sure enough, the staff had cut down her dosage from 4 times a day to only twice a day! Apparently it was incorrectly noted in the discharge records from the hospital, which is not The Cedar's fault. HOWEVER once I made them aware of the situation, they refused to take steps to verify the proper dosage (i.e. call her pharmacy, call her Primary Care physician,etc). INSTEAD with each passing day my mother's mental state continually declined to the point where she could not do therapy, (the reason why she was there!) I was informed that one doctor covered the entire facility and I needed to contact him to get her dosage back to normal. By chance we had a friend in common, so I WAS able to call him and get the dosage straightened out. But it was too late. On her 7th and final day at Cedar Crest she suffered a Tonic Clonic SEIZURE at 5am, and was rushed by ambulance BACK to the hospital where the cause was determined to be withdrawal from that medication. I only wish her complaint was about lousy food, bugs, overworked staff and rude service... ALL OF WHICH SHE EXPERIENCED (Excepting two very special staff members Benny and Zeke, who went out of their way to attempt to make her stay a pleasant one.) I'm not looking to talk to anyone about this. I only forward this story to assist someone considering this establishment for their loved one. read more

This is in response to Richard's comment. Why would I bother talking to you when I spoke to one staff member on the phone about a billing issue that was the result of laziness on your staff's part back in 2009. The response was she didn't know why things had occurred the way they did because she's only been working there a couple of years and didn't know what to say. I then sent an email and got a response from the office manager who pretty much didn't want to own up to the fact that the nursing home didn't feel the need to take one extra step to avoid the issue my mom had to deal with now. While my mom stayed there for two weeks, after major back surgery, she had to give herself sponge baths every day because the nurse would come in, plop the bin w/water on the table and say she'd be back, but never bothered to return. My mom developed a fever and instead of the on-call dr. at CC coming in to exam her or actually calling her own dr., he told the staff to send her off to the ER. When her own dr. found out, he was livid. She's lactose intolerant and she made that clear when asked what her meal preferences were. She was brought grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch for three days. Now, five years later a collection agency contacts her because two weeks after she was discharged from Cedar Crest, the hospital sent a bill for the ER visit to CC. Their course of action due to post office regulations, according to office manager, is to send the bill back w/a note written on the envelope "Return to Sender". The hospital sends it again and CC does the same thing. So because it was sent back twice without a note which should have said "No Longer a Resident", the hospital sends it off to a collection agency. You mean to tell me the billing staff at CC couldn't forward the bill to my mom or call her to tell her they received a bill, or call the hospital billing office to say she had been discharged? How much time or effort would that have cost? I'm guessing it was the cost of a stamp and envelope that prevented your staff from forwarding the bill to my mom. I contacted CC about paying the $50 collection bill because I felt, since it was their incompetence that caused all this, they should pay it. Well, that wasn't going to happen, and the best part about the reply from the office mgr. was her saying in her opinion my mom shouldn't pay the bill because it wasn't addressed correctly. Need I go further? Not only do I have more to tell on my mom's behalf, but I saw how others there were treated and heard plenty of stories from others who've had the misfortune of being there. So you can post comments about how you've tried to contact me or say whatever else you feel will redeem your business, but plenty of people out there know what it's like and say they never want to go there or send a loved one there. read more

My grandma was recently here for rehabilitation after a fall at home. I must say the entire staff was very helpful and with making sure my grandmother was able to get back in her feet and also helped with information about her options for home assistance and care when she was able to return home. My grandmother very much enjoyed her time at The Cedars and loved talking to the nurse's and enjoyed the food and spending time with some of the residents. I would say if your looking for a short term rehabilitation center this would be my first choice. From the social services they provide right down to the nurse's they are all very thoughtful and always willing to help families get the best care possible for their loved ones. read more

My 89 year old mom was a patient at Cedar Crest for several weeks in 2011-2012, recovering from a hospital stay. She was supposed to rehab at Cedar Crest, but instead her condition worsened, due at least in part to poor treatment and neglect. I want to be fair here - there were some very good people at Cedar Crest, I remember especially a nurse named Betty, who was very capable, warm and caring. Unfortunately, my mom was transferred out of Betty's care and had to endure some of the worst treatment imaginable. She was supposed to be bathed one morning by a staff member but instead was left naked, in her bed, in a puddle of her own feces and urine, for hours, until she was discovered by a visiting family member. I got my mom out of there as quickly as I could and got her placed in a wonderful facility in south county - but too late, as she passed away a couple of weeks later. I wish I had acted sooner, so her last months of life could have been a little happier. Aside from nurse Betty, and a few others whose names I do not know, I found the staff at Cedar Crest to be cold, callous and indifferent to their elderly patients' care. The front office people were always harsh, rude and very unhelpful. My family's experience there was an absolute nightmare, and I want to warn everyone out there with elderly relatives about this place - STAY AWAY, DO NOT SUBJECT YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS ABUSE. read more

We previously had a family member at Cedar Crest and was disgusted by the whole experience....theres sooo many complaints we could list but its a waste of time....but I will say this: the nurses and staff are supposed to take care of the patients NOT BE THERE WITH A ROTTEN HORRIBLE COLD THAT OUR FAMILY MEMBER CAUGHT. this place is a horror show and we will NEVER let anyone else in the family be subjected to their unprofessional nonsense. read more

I went to visit my aunt at CC Nursing Home last week and I was amazed at how friendly the staff was! Every person on staff that came into my aunt's room and that I passed by in the hall said hello to me and gave me a nice warm smile. It was such a cheerful happy atmosphere. I have visited many nursing homes and this was a first for me! read more
