Had trouble with many of the CNA's not speaking English very well, but they usually respond to the call light quickly except for two different times when there was a long delay... there was a lady across the hall who was out of it and she would scream all night multiple days per week... they did not seem to have any solution for that. So Sleep was a problem. I guess the physical therapy and occupational therapy I experienced there was somewhere near adequate. Staff is generally very friendly, did not meet anybody i did not want to have caring for me. They accommodated me having some food brought to me from my house or the grocery store and let me store some in their refrigerator .. saw the doctor one time, and the Social worker and case manager didn't seem to have much interest in what I needed. Staff nurses seemed to be overwhelmed by Patient demands most days, often rushing if they appeared at all if I asked to see a nurse... I would say that the vibes were mostly good, but they could use more staff to handle the patient demands. I'd say seven of 10 were competent, and pretty much everybody was friendly. I give them a four star rating because they are much better than some other places I've been but there's obviously room for improvement, what's needed are mostly more staff and better food, and better case management/social worker availability and care.

Bottom of the barrel Healthcare…read more So after being stabilized at Roger Williams's hospital, I spent three weeks in Elmhurst nursing home to recover from pneumonia. However, the lack of proper basic hygienic care and the mistakes they made with my medication, as well as the maltreatment by staff and the incompetency by CNAs, nurses, nurse practitioners and administrators led to my being rehospitalized with three secondary infections - some of which were serious. After my first week there I wanted to get a transfer to another facility and started gathering testimony from the different professional caregivers (non-staff) who work at other facilities, most of whom confirmed to me that they feel helpless at addressing these problems in this facility... They take for granted that the Marquis group corporate owners, will not allow them to get either the staffing or the supplies they need at that place to provide proper care, and after talking with different residents, I can see that both subacute care patients as well as long-term residents have the same complaints... I regret not documenting accurately enough to file a lawsuit, but I am filing complaints with the Rhode Island health department and publishing reviews everywhere I can online to let the world know, this place is BOTTOM OF THE BARREL as far as nursing homes go... what is taken for granted there is that mistakes (some of which will be life-threatening) WILL be made and the general attitude of staff is "not my fault, not my job, not my problem". The State needs to investigate how they operate that facility, they need inspections and auditing... The national Health review board has already removed their rating. There are 200 beds and nowhere near enough staff and a lot of serious medication errors and total lack of competency going on there.

The CNA needed to clean him up after he vomited. She had me leave the room and shut the door. My husband informed me that she was saying horrible things to him such as "who would want you. Look at you. You're useless". As he's telling me this he's crying. He thankfully only stated 24 hours because he needed to be transferred to the hospital. My heart hurt for him. This will be reported to a higher level. This place should be closed down.

Despite being a busy Friday night, every provider from start to finish was polite and genuinely concerned about her health as she had previously been misdiagnosed elsewhere. She was treated by RNP Russ Dufresne, who is an asset to both this center and the medical profession as a whole. I'm a first responder and I've never witnessed such thorough treatment in action. If we didn't reside over two hours away, I'd want him as our PCP. Thanks to him, my daughter is finally recovering.

Once for someone else, and they did a great job and escalated their care quickly to the local hospital. When I was here last, I was in and out in about 1 hr. The visit today, was another story. I was told there were only 3 people ahead of me. However, I spent over 3 hrs, waiting and waiting and waiting. I waited for the doctor, I waited for the phlebotomist, then I waited for results... Which didn't show anything. Nearly 4 hrs is a long time to wait. The doctor discharged 3 other people who came in after me ahead of me. He said, "sorry, I went to the wrong room" when he finally returned. I had asked another staff member to check on the wait and she did not ever come back to give me an update or let him know I was waiting. When the nurse came to discharge me, she gave me a diagnosis that he had not shared with me. She went back to ask the doctor and learned that the diagnosis listed was incorrect. He then listed another diagnosis on my paperwork, which is also incorrect. The entire experience was frustrating.

I visited several Independent Living homes and the Village was by far the best. It's set on top of a hill overlooking Waterman lake which is breathtaking from spring through fall. The facility is immaculate and the staff goes out of their way to make sure the residents have the resources they need. One of the first things I noticed when my parents moved in was how friendly and welcoming the other residents are. You can tell people enjoy being there, and my parents did too for their short time there. Their health deteriorated faster than any of us expected and they both needed to be moved quickly into the nursing home. If you meet Moriah, the general manager, (or house mom as my parents called her), she is always dressed to the nines with flawless make-up and four inch heels. When my dad needed to be moved to the nursing home, I noticed she had swapped out her skirt and heels for jeans and sneakers. She and two of the facility nurses pushed my dad down to the nursing home in a rolling recliner to make sure he could be moved comfortably and safely. She did the same for my mom when it was her turn. Moriah set-up the move in days and pushed my mom's wheelchair, this time in her heels, to her new room. If my parents had still been in North Carolina when their health crashed, or in a less accommodating facility, I don't know what I would have done. Every staff member in that place from the top to the bottom did what they needed to do to take care of my parents, and that is an invaluable service when you are dealing with aging loved ones.
