I've always had a brilliant meal here, each time fighting with myself whether to try something new or have an old favourite, as we only go when it's a very special occasion. Last time we went, I had the tasting menu with wine, and the only complaint (if you can call it that), is that if I'd drunk all the wine it came with, I would've been just that, drunk. Each course was blissful, exquisite for not only the mouth but for the nose and eye. I can honestly say I've never been anything but thrilled by the food served here.
One problem (which keeps it from being five stars for me) is that The Dining Room isn't very intimate, something I'd appreciate with a restaurant with its price range. Let's face it, this is a special occasion place for most people (we rarely got out for under £150 for two), so I'd prefer to feel like I was in my own little space rather than alongside the other punters.
Along those lines, The Dining Room suffers from the same problem Reigate itself does--a lot of people with new money (or more money than manners) who like to show it off, often in a loud and (once, anyway) obnoxious way. I've found that each time there was at least one table for whom the night was obviously just another meal, so were taking the opportunity to be loud and showy, ruining the atmosphere for those looking for a nice, intimate dinner. read more
