I've been by this place a million times but never visited. Well, that finally ended on a recent Sunday for breakfast. I drove by and decided to make a quick stop. There's good parking and easy access for older patrons. The inside of the restaurant was nice and clean, looked newly remodeled and the staff were super kind. I sat at the counter and enjoyed the various conversations happening around me. I ordered up coffee, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage and an egg over medium. The coffee was pretty light and the bacon/sausage were nothing special. The rest of the meal was really good and came in around $15 + tip. Their menu seems to cater to "homestyle" cooking and I'd like to try some of their lunch offerings. read more

Cool little spot right off of 22. Plenty of parking but space inside is a bit limited so try to come early for a good table. Food has always been fresh, staff can be a little behind when things get packed but that isn't their fault, they are working hard. It is such a bummer when a once favorite stop starts to head downhill. This is a small diner with the typical diner fare. They will make items to order. The decor is very charming with entertaining wooden plaques hanging everywhere. There is plenty of parking. We had a short wait for a party of 4. There is room outside to wait. It wouldn't be possible to wait with bad weather. We ordered 3 omelets: western, cheese, and ultimate and a breakfast sandwich. You can get just about any cheese on your omelet. All three omelets were meh. The sandwich was so slathered in butter you could really only taste the butter. The other dishes lacked flavor. The real disappointment was the service. This used to be my favorite part of eating here. Today we sat for a while with empty mugs. We just never saw much of our server but she didn't seem too busy. Guess everybody has a bad day now and then. read more

Family certainly helps to make any experience a better one. However, this place would have been a five-star experience on its own. So cool from the moment you step inside; it's definitely unexpected just looking from outside. They have history here and the place used to be about half its current size. It was basically just the bar running to the left as you walk in. Good thing they expanded - there's no way we'd have gotten a table - they were packed out! Of course it was mostly old local folks. Everyone friendly and easy going, including staff. Oh and the food was dang good! Not all fried and unhealthy either. I ordered a grilled chicken plate but made sure to offset it with a giant, blueberry stuffed, syrup and whipped cream laden Belgian waffle. We had fried cauliflower bites for the table and somebody ordered a reuben that apparently they're known for. All said, it was highly affordable, delicious food with fantastic service, and I can't wait to get back. read more

The staff here is wonderful, the menu is incredibly varied. I got the salad and it was mostly just a bagged mix with a little bit of chicken on top. The dressing was just Kens. My husband got a cheeseburger and he said it was very bland. However I'm still giving them five stars because the staff is so lovely, they are pro America, the prices are reasonable. I plan on going back and trying some other dishes I will update my review at that time. If everything on the menu is kind of bland that might be good for some folks but for a cheeseburger to really not be seasoned is a simple fix. The chili was very good. Not spicy at all but very tasty. Oddly, we both asked for a cup, but got served and charged for a bowl. The french fries there were an absolute disaster. They look like they had been double dipped, they were greasy and just gross. read more

Delicious! Great comfort food, great breakfast. Hearty portions! Never, ever disappointed with the menu. We are new to the area and this is the best restaurant food we've had in a long time. Turkey dinner with stuffing is delicious, burgers are flavorful, taste like beef and cooked as ordered each time, chili is tasty, the cole slaw is COLD and so good! The breakfasts are filling and the omelettes are perfect. Even the toast is good! We just love Diner 22 and are so, so glad we found it. Prices are reasonable and there is a small surcharge if you use credit cards. The iced tea is delicious as well! Oh! The desserts! The house made pies are very good and even the desserts they bring in are outstanding! The carrot cake...wow! We were out in the area for a murder mystery weekend, and had ventured out to do some winter hiking at Raystown Lake, on the way back we were all hungry and decided to stop at Diner 22 for a bite to eat. It's a small little diner, nothing fancy, but the food is awesome! I had the stuffed pepper soup and the turkey bacon melt, both were excellent. The service was fast and friendly, and it looks at though they are finishing up with a recent remodel. The food was great once we got it, but it took what felt like forever to get our food. Don't know if the kitchen was backed up or what but it was a little over half an hour before we were served... Plus, a guy that was sitting at the table next to us got up and went and asked for another drink, and mumbled on his way back past us, "this place is really going downhill." Diner 22 is one of those places that time forgot but in a good way. From the outside it reminds you of the old roadside restaurants that dotted every new "highway" in the united states... Luckily this one made it into the 21st century and kept their charm all the same. The Food is great and cheap! They have great breakfast and it's the only place I can think of that I have ordered a Pizza burger and fresh cut fries and thought wow this is really good. They also pride themselves on their homemade pies. The atmosphere is also great, It appears everyone knows everyone at Diner 22 and if they don't know you they make you feel like they do. This place is an old train car turned diner. It has been added to over the years and a true Americana experience. We came along this place while traveling down old Route 22. We really just needed something to drink and to use the restroom but how can you go to a place like this and not get something. The pie seemed like a proper road snack. All of the pies that they had were homemade and had about 4-6 inches of homemade whipped cream on the top perfectly toasted to give it a nice caramelized skin. We opted for the coconut cream pie. It was not overly sweet like I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. I wish I was hungrier because if the food was anything like the pie it would have been a proper meal. This is the perfect place if you are either just looking for a roadside diner to get a home cooked meal or if you really have the desire to time travel back 25-30 years. read more

Small diner in a small town of Alexandria, a very nice waitress and good food. Would of gave this 5 stars but two flaws, first there is only a big table for a sizeable group of people and we were 5 so a couple of 2 moved for us so we can sit. Another flaw was I ordered the chicken and waffles,don't make this mistake if you like it. It was a waffle with chunks of chicken in chicken gravy thought it was the one with syrup and chicken tenders. Also, it said it was a sandwich, clearly not. Replaced it with a burger and it was a lot better. Even dessert was great, recommend the apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Give this place a try for lunch you won't regret it. read more

Being from the Boston area (yes, I'm a snob), I am still trying to adjust to the huge portions and starchy, bland, greasy foods served up in most central PA dinners. Here, most vegetables are cole slaw, canned corn or canned beans! That said, I LOVE Diner 22. If I want a central PA meal, I beg my husband to take me here. Breakfasts are ALL amazing, and not so huge you die. Chili and cornbread: heaven! Daily homemade soup specials are another treat. Best of all are the decadent, homemade, thick-cut potato chips. Just ask the server and they will have a take-out order ready for you when you leave. And leave room for plenty of fresh coffee and great desserts! Greatest diner in Huntingdon County! If you are in Raystown country, or camping at Raystown it's worth the short drive to get the best home made breakfast this side of PA! And if your in a hurry or looking for some country home made lunch/dinner their lunch menu is full of some awesome food! Best club you'll ever have! Plus they serve breakfast all day so if your late to rise it's the place to be! Prices are about the same when compared to similar restaurants in the area, some things on the menu are even cheaper! Their breakfast is good. The sandwiches are okay. Do not order their meatloaf. Dry and horrible powdered onion flavor. They are known for their fried chicken dinner but I've had better fried chicken at the local grocery store take out. They serve small portions that are very dry. The mashed potatoes are fake. Diner 22 is living on their History and their fair breakfast. There really is nothing here that is great. Location is what they have. If you are starving they will give you something that will fill your belly. But I can whip something up better in 5 minutes. read more
