I only ordered drinks here for take out so I'm basing my rating on this experience. I was in the area and wanted a drink. I'd say drinks were average. Came and got a standard latte and a ice matcha latte. Drinks were what they were, nothing crazy. I'd say the space here is really nice. Lots of people dining in and aesthetically a very nice space inside for a cafe. I like that there's a walk up window from the outside. Not sure if that's used right now considering the weather but cool to see. There's seating on both sides to the coffee bar one on the upper level. Ordered and got my drink pretty quickly. There were only 2 people working the table one to take the order and one to make the drinks. Staff were nice- I noticed that they offered doggie treats to one of the customers because they saw his dog outside which I thought was very nice and observant of them. read more

I really like Dineen's on Temperance so was jonesing to try their other location in the East End. With many windows, the interior is very bright. The decor is also quite nice, including some pretty unique life fixtures. There are a number of tables, but most of them were taken (probably because it was a Saturday afternoon). Dineen Outpost's menu includes both food and drink. On the counter, there are a number of baked goods lined up. Like their other location, I noticed that they also have truffles from Mary's Brigadeiro. Since I was going to indulge in Detroit style pizza after, I just had an Americano. Wow! How busy! Sunday afternoon and Dineen was rammed. Families, couples, people working, everyone is here. There are crayons and colouring pages to help occupy the kids. Plenty of seating in the front and back. I did see some electrical power outlets. Wifi tested at 75mbps. The popularity makes this location is self recommending. read more

A great neighbourhood cafe located in the little strip of Gerrard between Jones and Marjory. The decor is kinda fancy with some round table seating in the front and more traditional square table seating in the raised area in the back. It is really bright with all the windows that let in the sunlight and just has a high energy vibe. We ended up getting a hot apple cider, chai latte, and a slice of pistachio bread and enjoyed them at one of the small round tables near the windows facing Gerrard St. The prices for things seem fair for an establishment offering not just food and drink but a little curated experience. It was like having a little peaceful moment amongst the light chatter and keyboard clicks on the laptops on a chilly winter day. read more

I was bummed they didn't have caramel for a caramel latte so I opted for a vanilla latte and had the best vanilla latte of my life. They had a vanilla syrup that was packed with vanilla beans. Almond croissant was also absolutely perfect. Nothing I would change about this place except maybe also have caramel so I can have the best caramel Latte of my life next time as well. Finally got a chance to visit Dineen Outpost near Leslieville. It's really beautiful inside, I love the decor. The drinks were very good, their quality of coffee is superb. We ordered a cold brew, iced cortado, iced decaf latte and sat outside on their sunny patio. I have been to the location on temperance several times when I worked in the financial district and that was great and busy, but the vibe at the outpost location is totally different. This location is more neighbourhood and family friendly. FYI- washrooms were clean, you can order baked goods if you are feeling hungry and despite closing at 4pm they let you sit outside on the patio as long as you like. The walk-up window works great if you are traveling by bike and don't want to leave it unattended. read more

I've been to their Yonge location before, so when my friends told me that they opened up a location on the East end I thought I def. need to come by and give it a try! Right on Gerrard street, the cafe is easy to spot :) There is parking on the side streets and also along Gerrard. When you walk in, It's almost like you have entered a different environment. A bit of vintage and european vibe :) I LOVE their Toronto sign right at the counter - very beautiful! The ambience is great! There are tables further back up the stairs for those that want to sit at a chair and work on their laptops or study, and there's also couches right by the front door with these beautiful marble tabletops with lots of natural light and a perfect place for friends to cozy up and chat! My friends had a tea, latte and I ended up getting a cortado since I was a bit too full for a whole cup of latte. I really like their coffee! I talked to the barista, who told me that they usually have a featured blend and their temperance blend. The temperance blend has some Brazilian origins in it, which might be why at first taste of the cortado, I knew I liked the espresso instantly, and that was the blend they use in their espresso. Their current feature blend is more of a medium roast and is better for drip coffee rather than espresso. They also sell a selection of teas as well - my friend really enjoyed hers. They also cater to special requests - particularly they do have lactose free milk available. I love that it's not skim milk they use and that they have 2% because I find that little extra creaminess adds depth to the espresso drink itself (although skim is healthier so I do still try to have skim from time to time as an option too). And i really love that they don't charge extra for lactose free milk. I also noticed they have a wide selection of pastries/cookies, and even have ready to go sandwiches. They looked super cute, because they are so skinny and long! Anyway, this is a great little spot to chill, catch up with friends, or even just plug down on your laptop and get some work done. Being a busybee the only time to date I actually was able to spend substantial time inside this trendy cafe was in late 2019 when a high school friend invited me here to catch up. Surrounded by the fancy memorable vintage/Euro-classic pink toned interior atmosphere with the brass "TORONTO" lettering on the floor at the corner of the bar which has quickly become an Instagram aesthetic lifestyle influencer flytrap (#torontocliches), we remarked on how shockingly different this whole block of Gerrard Street at Jones (or "#Gerrones" in the new local hipster parlance) with the invasion of youthful new bars and such, versus how quiet and working-class and lacking it was when in our high school days (hello RCI), and of how Dineen's presence on this block with the amount of investment and aesthetics that went into building out this coffeeshop speaks to what has changed/become of this block and its demographics and what it is trying to figure out what it wants to be as a neighbourhood. Feels like Ossington Street in some way. The Outpost used to be a convenience store, across the street from another corner store a friend's family once ran which is now Blackjack BBQ (that's another tale). Perhaps some of these new entrepreneurial kids felt like this block is uh.. Jones-ing for a refresh. Oh you know what let's just go ahead and call it what it bloody is: gentrification. With the steep coffee prices to suit. Back then I found the staff at the time a bit haughty, but recalled decent baked treats. At the least the customer base here isn't as stuck-up as their similarly decored Yonge location with the Financial District suit dummies, nor as busy. The large windows makes this coffee-date-type location feel much brighter than so many other cafes in the city, with the comfy pink wraparound couch at the front to suit. Then COVID hits and the ability for anyone to hang out here inside became limited. Their very convenient takeout window thus have gotten a lot of use lately. A more pleasant barista handed me an okay-okay cortado on a recent stop, and for once I felt like this spot had brightened up the block a bit, if not itself. read more

My friends wanted to meetup to chat so we chose a spot on the east end. Parking was not too hard to find in the side street but the rain made getting there a little difficult. The place is not too big with a bunch of tables at both ends. The furniture seemed pretty worn down at the front end of the cafe. The back was pretty busy with people already sitting at the tables so I didn't check it out. I ordered a chai latte as I waited for my friend come in from the rain. The staff were friendly and gave my latte to me quick. Overall, the cafe needs a face lift especially where I was sitting. Really delicious but really expensive. A small sandwich and a flat white with vanilla syrup came to $17. Kind of steep but the flat white with vanilla syrup was delicious. You can see specs of vanilla in it. They also sell the syrup in a cute glass bottle and it looks beautiful. Service was for the most part friendly. They mistook half my order as to-stay instead of to-go and one woman wanted to dump my flat white into a to-go cup. Umm yeah for $5, make it again, as it was your colleague's mistake not mine. I need to Instagram that stuff and I can't Instagram a sloppy latte. Her colleague was going to make it again but she wanted to save on the ingredients and told him to just dump it in a paper cup. I thought that was kinda cheap; you're charging customers $5 for a coffee, it should be perfect. She did make it again and it was beautiful and tasted divine, and was indeed perfect. Beautiful old fashioned fancy decor. Same idea as the original Dineen but a slightly different style. Super adorable. Loved the decor. I liked the leather, pink (pretend) marble tables, even though they were plastic. The $10 sandwich was kind of mediocre, but the $5 flat white with vanilla syrup was amazing. Crowded on weekends. Standing room near the cash is cramped but the bar seating along the wall behind it that makes it feel cramped adds extra seating. They might get a patio in the summer they said. It would be a super cute place for a summer coffee date. Room for improvement: don't cheap out--if you make a mistake, fix it, don't compromise on the quality of the product you deliver to save a buck. You're a bougie coffee shop, and people who spend $20 for a coffee and a small sandwich expect a 5-star experience. They serve alcohol at night until 10pm. I would totally come back. read more

I used to live right in this area on Gerrard Street. Before I moved nearly a decade ago, I saw some signs of gentrification (Grindr coffee just opened as well as Starbucks). Fast forward to today and the area resembles a new Ossington, a eclectic mix of restaurants mixed in with old signage and charm of some business past. I was really excited to see a Dineen open up here, I love their coffee and was interested to see how the café would fair outside of their financial district clientele. Safe to say they did everything right. The space has old world charm, fitting for the building it's in. The coffee drinks, same quality as the other locations. On the other side of things, they also serve up charcuterie and cheese boards and wine! I love this idea because it works so well for evenings. The cheese selections are great and portions are generous (seriously, how often do you order a cheese board only to get a 1inch cube of each cheese?). It's nice and quiet in the evening and the perfect neighborhood spot to just relax with some snack, coffee or wine. If I could make one recommendation, it would be perhaps they could stay open a bit later. read more

What an awful bunch of folks. Saw how beautiful the place was so I thought I'd stop by for a macchiato. Made my order and requested for it not to be served in a paper cup. The barrista looked at me all confused and said in a super condescending manner that "a macchiato is really small, you know?" Thank you lady, I know. Just trying to keep the waste down. Being super lactose intolerant, I had also asked for my order to be made with lactose free milk. Of course 5 minutes into sipping my coffee, my stomach starts to rumble and I had to run to the restroom. Twice. I come back up, bring the rest of my half finished "little macchiato" to the var and mentioned it wasnt lactose free. The girl doesn't even ask if I was ok. Been here two times. Coffee is a bit pricey for what you get. The first time I went, I ordered a green tea latte and it was super watered down. I couldn't even taste the matcha. The second time, I ordered a regular latte and it was just average. The downtown location is much better. I much prefer this location to the one in the financial district. It lacks some of the glitz of the other one, but makes up for it by being a little bit more rustic and cozy in terms of aesthetic, while still looking beautiful and classy. I love the soft peach/blush tones here. It's nice that this place is way less hectic and more low-key than the other location - the wifi here is more consistent too. I got a chai latte here and found it to be way on the sweet side. However, for the aesthetics and vibes alone, this is a great spot to study at, get some work done, or just chill. read more

The space is gorgeous, and the coffee is fantastic. One star taken off for the food. The pastries they offer are good (the danishes are delicious), the scones mediocre, and the lunch offering is almost non-existent. Pre-made sandwiches on baguettes and packaged salads. I've been to the Queen location and this one and I have to say I like this location better. The quality of food and drinks are on par to the other location but I feel like the service is just a tad bit better and the server's took time out to talk. The decor here is also nicer in my opinion. I've been here several times to do work: one time before it was made popular by blogs and after it got quite popular. It's still new so it will be crowded as instagram influencers will be coming in and out to snap photos for their gram. It gets a bit annoying when I'm trying to do work and have to wait for a proper seat by outlet plugs to work on my laptop. Other than that, after the hype dies down, this will definitely become my go to spot. I highly recommend the Pecan Squares, it's super sweet so share half with a friend- it really hits the spot for me.
