This neighbourhood cafe has so much potential. Great space and location. However, my visit here was pretty disappointing. I had a London Fog, they use Sloane tea ("heavenly cream" flavour, a classic) but they fill the cup half way with hot water and then just add a bit of steamed milk and vanilla syrup. I thought that was so weird, as it should be just the tea bag, steamed milk, and vanilla syrup. It tasted watered down. I also had a croissant and it was so bad, it was almost inedible. Judging by the way they were stacked up like sardines in the display case, I think they are bought from somewhere else and certainly not made in house. It was too dry and lacking the inner chewiness, yet also not flaky or crips on the outside. Instead it was kinda stale. It looked like those ones that come in big boxes at grocery store. Very disappointing. The only good thing is that their street side patio is really nice in the summer. There are ample muskoka chairs with side tables and a bowl of clean water for the dogs. On a weekend morning, there are lots of regulars here and people are very friendly. However, for quality espresso drinks and fresh baked goods, Supernova Coffee up the street is significantly better (and also has a cute patio area). read more

I met 4 others at the venue for coffee only as we had a limited amount of time to spend there. I ordered a brewed coffee which I liked and we sat on their nice outdoor seating area. The décor inside is quite inviting; the chairs, etc. give the space a 'homey' feel; not pretentious at all. The service was quite friendly and prompt as well and of course the location is quite convenient being just a couple of blocks north of the subway. As it's a corner café it's also easy to spot. I would recommend a visit if you're close by, have some time to spare and of course being a coffee connoisseur certainly helps! read more

This is such a cute little spot. Literally saw it walking by on the Danforth and I'm so glad I decided to hop in because what I got I enjoyed and the lady behind the counter was friendly. I added a spoon of brown sugar to my single latte and it was great. I also like the fact that they have real spoons so there's no disposable waste in that area. What I also enjoyed was the little diagram on the menu that gives you an overview of the main differences between different types of coffee. I love supporting my local businesses so I'd be back! The best Mocha I've ever had in Toronto so far. I will recommend this cafe to every coffee-lover friends. It is located on Broadview Ave., a couple of blocks north of Broadview Station, close to Greektown. If weather permitted, sitting outside the cafe is a great option to hang out. The little shop that could has slowly made it's mark on a neighborhood that has been in search of a good cup of coffee for sometime. The owner, a former waiter at Canoe has perfected the art of making the perfect cup of coffee. His skill with foam has resulted in a bustling shop with a true neighborhood feel. The little shop has been busy since day one serving up coffee in conversation. The owner has made the decision not to have wifi in an effort to protect the space for just that, coffee and conversation. It's a cute little coffee shop that caters to the locals; there's no parking on site, but there are heaps of one-hour parking spots and it's close to Broadview Station. Staff seem to know their regulars and were very friendly. The Americano that I had was super strong, maybe too strong considering it wasn't straight up espresso; I also ordered a butter tart with pecans, which was a-okay. My friend goes to see a family doctor in the neighbourhood and often see Broadview Espresso. He tells me that it is a small place and they do not have enough seats. It looks a small place from outside, but it is not a small place at all and there are four or five tables and there are many seats on their counter. Customers are all ages and they have friendly atmosphere. The latte is good even though it tastes a little bit soy source. Some people are working on their work with their laptops, but the shop has a pretty good turnover of their customers. It is a good place to talk to friends, but not sitting with a laptop for hours. When you go to bathroom, the stairs is very sharp. Be careful of not falling down. This is a nice coffee shop. I am happy to find Broadview Espresso. read more

Those complaining about the lack of Wi-Fi make me chuckle. One of the best things about Broadview Espresso beyond their fantastic coffee and vibe is their lack of Wi-Fi. This place is like an Avengers movie. It has all the super heroes you want, action you'd expect...but missing a well thought-out script. In this case the script is the WIFI, of which they have none. No WIFI. That is an automatic star gone. There are so many coffee shops with wifi, that I feel if you don't have it, you should have a sign out front. Some have done it and I think that's extremely helpful. Everything else however is a solid star. Environment - One of the nicest I've seen in Toronto. A great use of colored glass, great wood theme, amazing music that isn't too loud (and it helps that it's David Bowie). Staff - Extremely friendly. No frowning faces that still expect you to tip for just offering almost regularly expected service. These people deserve every loonie or more you can put into their tip-jar. Cleanliness - Very clean. Washrooms great. Lighting is a bit on the darker side so not easy to meticulously check yourself in a vain-way. Seating - A bit on the small side but they did everything they could with the area. Don't bring three friends here. Two, you have a shot of getting some seats. Food & Drink - Fantastic. Exactly what I'd expect. Prices - Really cheap, especially for a coffee shop that advertises as an espresso bar. I think my tea and cookie came to about $3 and some change. Conclusion - Great place to go to if you don't need WIFI. One of, if not the best place in the area. But without WIFi, I guarantee they've lost a ton of customers. read more

After having my nails done at Urban Nails, I decided I needed a caffeine kick and a snack, and after reading reviews of Broadview Espresso on Yelp, I decided to pop in and give it a try. The decor is very cute and comfy. After deciding to get a take out, I kinda wished I decided to stay in. Next time! I asked the baristas what they recommended as it was my first visit. They asked a few questions and a cappuccino was decided upon. A single shot capp set me back $3. Not cheap. More expensive than your Starbucks, but trust me, much more enjoyable. One of the best capps I have had in a while. I was also looking for a snacky/treat, but there was not much selection (odd cookie and vegan item), so I decided to pass. Was not sure if this is a regular, or because it was a Sunday afternoon. I agree with Suzie G, that this place is more of a conversationalist spot vs a wifi work spot. **Review is for cortado fanciers.** ;-) Popped into this place for the first time, and I really liked the vibe. It was a beautiful day, and their outside seating was well used and enjoyed. They don't have cortados on their menu, but I asked if they could make one and they didn't hesitate, but there were a few inconsistencies when compared to the way other coffee shops prepare them. (I've had cortados at a number of different places - Crema, Rooster, Mercury, Mascot, the newly opened Bandit etc.) Firstly, she asked if I wanted a single or a double. Never been asked that before, but probably because the others automatically pull doubles. I watched the barista, and here was his routine; he pulled a double shot of espresso, and to that he added a couple of spoonfuls of foam, poured in some steamed milk, then added some more foam. This was all done in a small cappuccino cup. I've never seen the drink constructed in this way and never had foam added to it. It is almost always served in a small glass and includes some art on the top (impossible when spooned foam is the last step). That said, this is obviously a shop that takes it's espresso-based drinks seriously, and I won't complain about my cortado, because it isn't even on the menu. I also found the beans a tad over-roasted, but I hesitate to mention that as no other Yelper points it out, so maybe it was only my batch. That said, I look forward to trying this place again and giving it a second chance. *Really 3.5, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. read more

Broadview Espresso is my new favourite place to work - well, that is, when I don't need the internet to get said work done. As others have mentioned, this little café does NOT have wifi. From what I've heard, it was apparently a decision made by the owner to make this a place for conversation and contemplation, not a place filled with laptops. Fair enough. So yes, while I do like to go to cafés to work online, Broadview Espresso is the best option when I need to do work without getting distracted by Facebook, Twitter, and, oh yeah, Yelp! The drink selection is delicious and varied, though I always find myself drawn to their fantastic Rooibos Provence loose tea. As for the treats, I've tried both their carrot cake (with amazing cream cheese frosting) and their chocolate chip cookies (the dough clearly has a large amount of brown sugar in it, and therefore is so awesome) and loved both. All of the employees I've encountered there are super nice and chill and help foster a really positive, laid-back vibe to the shop. Their fantastic music choices also help with that, as on my first visit I was treated to a Cat Stevens greatest hits collection, and the second time was Sarah Harmer's three best albums shuffled together on someone's iPod. I love when I bring my own iPod to a café to work but don't end up using it 'cause the music choices are more perfect than my own! Important note!: This place is cash only. And while they do have a cash machine in the basement, it's frequently broken. Fortunately there is a convenience store with an ATM across the street though, if needed. read more

I've been in and out of the Broadview Espresso for a couple of years, and I must say it has gone downhill some. The young girls in the staff can be a bit loud and annoying if you are trying to do some work. And talking about work, what kind of coffee shop doesn't have Wi-Fi in 2012? And when I asked about it, the staff were very surly in their response. Listen, I can understand a business decision not to attract the laptop crowd, but you don't have to be rude about it. Also, people like me who make a living with their little laptops, spend 10-15 dollars a day on coffee in places that do offer Wi-Fi and have friendlier staff. The drip coffee was disappointing, the Americano a little better. The place is tiny for where it is located, and doesn't feel very cozy. And though not filthy, a coffee shop should have a cleaner feeling than what you get here. There are far better options down the street on the Danforth. read more

I remember when this site used to house an old seedy adult video store, but the people at Broadview Espresso have definitely changed the creepy vibe to a community espresso bar with a great, relaxed and cozy feel. The espresso and drinks are priced very reasonably, and in most cases it's on par with Second Cup which is a happy medium between Starbucks and Tim Horton's. The pastries are a little expensive, and there are times when it's really busy so you might just have to take it to go. I go here on my days off, at times just walking there in my slippers without a care in the world and I love this place and the people who run it. read more

I do not live in the area but we visit the Danforth often and I go out of my way to get my Latte at Broadview Espresso. It is one of my top 2 or 3 go to Espresso spots in the city. The coffee is always done perfectly. The vibe is nice and warm in the winter, and very cool and refreshing in the summer. I recommend that they grow their snack menu to include more healthy and unhealthy snacks that will go well with Coffee. I needed a little pick-me-up -- something cool and with caffeine. I stopped by Broadview Espresso because of the great things I read about it on Yelp. These yelpers did not lie. Broadview Espresso is indeed a little gem hidden off the Danforth. I got an iced latte, which is their answer to Starbuck's Frappuccino. They premake the icy coffee slushee using their own beans and simple syrup. When you order it, they mix the thick icy concoction with milk, and voila, there was my very icy latte. The look on my face made the server hurriedly reassure me that they made the coffee product and it wasn't a pre-packaged junk. It was very sweet (sweeter than I would personally prefer), very cold, and refreshing on such a hot muggy day. And wow! Did it pack a caffeine punch. I was definitely ready for a full's day work after drinking that iced latte. The cafe itself is homey and down to earth. It's a good place to sit and relax or to bring a laptop when you want to work outside of your home. read more

Best espresso in the city! After having tried every coffee place on this side of the Don, I don't think I've ever had a espresso that rivaled this lovely place. Unfortunately, when I go for espresso, it's often with either another person or a laptop, and that limits the number of occasions for which I find this to be the right cafe. If there's another person, we'll probably end up somewhere else, because the seating in BE is very limited and it's just not big enough to feel comfortable there for very long. If I lived right near by, i'm sure i'd feel differently, but Riverdale Perk or The One or Remarkable Bean are much more comfortable places to while away time in conversation. So, I tend to go to Broadview Espresso when I'm grabbing a cup to go. Nice folks, nice music, great coffee. read more

Not a coffee connoisseur by any stretch, all I know is that I loved any caffe con leche in Costa Rica, and have been searching for the same here. But, I'm not too hopeful I will find it. Randomly came across this place as I always pass it and happen to be in the area again with time to kill. I don't understand why people tend to like the strong bitter coffees with the decorative foamy milk on top. Good to look at but not so to drink. But everyone has their preferences. Discussed non bitter no foam coffee for a bit with the friendly folk behind the counter. Sure enough it came close to what I asked for - non bitter and low foam (not no foam). I drink Americanos, so I'm really only reviewing for the atmosphere. It states in the blurb that it is wheelchair accessible, but it wasn't when I was there in August of 2012, there's a high step at the door. Some of the outdoor furniture was falling apart. Inside has a very nice decor, yet has a feeling of being half finished. It has a poor counter flow, you have to go back through the line up to put the milk etc in your drink. 5 stars earned for the maple latte alone. My absolute fave in the city and now a Sunday morning ritual before doing my groceries. It is always consistently good here and the pastries and muffins are delicious. Another plus for me is the seating area they have outside, Muskoka chairs where you could spend hours watching the world go by.
