I first started seeing her when I had a real job with my own insurance and she has taken care of colds as well as the female stuff. I am the kind of person that wants my doctor to be no-nonsense and just cut to the chase with me - I've had a lot of serious health issues and I just don't want to sugar coat things. She knows this and gets right to it without any touchy-feely stuff, but I get the sense that she is totally compassionate and sensitive to patients who need that experience. I've never felt that she is cold, just professional, in other words! The only thing I wish that was better was trying to get a prescription for medication now and then - I went in for migraines a long time back and instead of a prescription, I had to keep a food diary - coming back six months later I just asked for the medication my friend let me try and got the script, but I was suffering that whole time. And every year when I have a cold, everyone else can get the Z-Pack but I have to let the thing run its course. I get that it is really for my own good not to take too many antibiotics, but try telling that to me when I am miserable and working 10 hour days!! A small price to pay for her wonderful and fast care! (And I especially love that she will call personally and leave test results on your voicemail if you authorize it!)

Last year I (like many Americans) went through an extended period of unemployment and no health insurance. I couldn't see her for awhile. When I became gainfully employed and fully insured again (yay!) the first thing I did was looked her up in the "book" for the HMO insurance plan I selected to make sure she could remain my PCP. Keep in mind, again, that she's already been my physician for going on 10 years. I was so loyal to her that, if she hadn't been listed in the plan I selected, I was prepared to choose another one where she was. I was pleased that Dr. Phan was listed in the plan I selected, and I called her office right away to make an appointment and get re-established. I arrive a week later or so for my appointment only to be told that Dr. Phan would not see me because she was not part of my insurance plan. Huh? But she's listed in my plan, I protested -- in the book and on the website. And furthermore, why didn't I receive a call telling me this before I actually came to the office. Dr. Phan's front-desk "gatekeeper" claimed that they've been trying to have her removed from my plan's "book" for several years. I, frankly, don't believe that. Not only is she listed in the book, she's listed on the website. It cannot be THAT difficult to remove. And further, I was asked the specifics of my insurance plan was when I made the appointment -- if Dr. Phan wasn't part of it, why not tell me then? Although I've had the same cell number for 6 of the almost 10 years that Dr. Phan was my PCP, and that number is listed as my primary number, her office called my home landline about an hour before the appointment to "cancel" it. How many people listen to their landline voicemail with any frequency? And why the office never called my cell number remains a mystery. I asked if Dr. Phan would see me anyway -- again, I hadn't been to the doctor in at least 9 mos. and I figured, after all of our history together, we could find a way to sort it out. No such luck. Front desk chick told me "Sorry, bye." So that's that. Never got any kind of follow up phone call or anything from Dr. Phan or her office. I felt silly for thinking that having had a longstanding history with her meant something. In the end, it did not. It's all about the "plan" and the profits.

I felt great. Then, I noticed her bedside manner was poor and she always ran late. But I felt good, so I kept going. Then, when I approached midlife, I experienced a range of serious symptoms. Heart palpitations, extreme weight loss, hair loss. She hadn't educated me about what to expect during these years or that my thyroid should be checked more frequently when these changes occurred. She also didn't warn me that hypothyroid patients are at higher risk for osteoporosis. I kept asking for HRT, but she never explained why she didn't recommend it, or what my options were. She just said to take vitamins. I finally found an OBGYN who specializes in hormonal issues. She immediately ordered a bone density scan, and I had developed osteoporosis at a young age. She also walked me through the pros and cons of HRT and recommended dietary changes. My osteoporosis probably could have been prevented or delayed had I been with a more attentive practitioner. Dr. Bajramovic has pretty much checked out; barely does the minimum. On top of it, she has high staff turnover; they rarely return messages in a timely manner, and she doesn't use Epic, it got exhausting transferring my medical records to her all the time. I wish I had seen another endocrinologist during my vulnerable years of hormonal change. Now I've suffered irreversible damage. If you are a new patient considering seeing her, I highly recommend you seek care elsewhere. If you are a current patient, I recommend you switch to someone who has expertise in hormonal issues. I just wish I had switched a long time ago.

I have read varying reviews of dermatologists in the Chicago area. Not surprisingly they vary…read morewidely, akin to those of cosmetic surgeons. Expectations play a large role in these. I had two lip lesions that were benign but slowly growing and I wanted them removed. My dermatologist at Chicago Lakeshore Medical, Dr. Smith, recommended a certain type of laser for the lips, found at the NMH dermatology department. I called for an appointment and received a consultation within two days - very unusual and positive. When I was seen by Dr. Yoo and a medical resident, timely by the way, they suggested that if I could just wait for 15-20 minutes they could perform the procedure. Of course, I accepted, popped down to Corner Bakery for a sandwich and returned. The doctor and his staff were compassionate, efficient and professional. The laser did not hurt whatsoever even though they warned me; of course I had topical anesthetic. Their promise of rrsults is evident three weekds later. The elsions have all but disappeared. It helped me that I had prior minor surgery to remove one under my upper lip because Ihave herpes simplex andamy disruption or wound causes fever blisters and swelling. But the effect of the laser was minimal and I am very pleased. Such therapy is expensive but worth it in my case. Dr. Yoo made a return visit for 4-6 weeks but it won't be necessary. The office is very efficient and comfortable in the Arkes Family Pavilion on St. Clair.

Every time I have called to schedule an appointment, she acts as if she is doing me a huge favor. I have scheduled all of my appointments at his Glenview location, however, when I turned up for my appointment, I was told that the doctor was not in because I had been scheduled for the Chicago office. Even though I took the day off work, there was no apology, and she made it difficult to reschedule. When I returned to the Glenview schedule after taking the day off work AGAIN, Dr. Yoo and his nurse were very friendly and approachable. The procedure went well and I felt comfortable. Dr. Yoo did the interior stitches, but had a resident do the outer stitches. While the Dr. is very personable, I am surprised to see others state that he explained things well. Dr. Yoo did not explain what he was doing or offer any information if I did not ask (or know to ask) first. When the procedure was finished, I was given discharge papers by the nurse, I was taught how to properly care for my wound, and told I would need to take an antibiotic. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription and there was no order placed. I called Dr. Yoo's call center, where they said they would page him, and still, after several hours, my prescription was not called in. I called several times again, and was told this time he would be paged "urgently", and my prescription was still not called in, and then the pharmacy closed. This is unacceptable. The staff at the call center were very courteous, but they asked for lots of details regarding my medication that should not be my responsibility as a patient: what dosage of the antibiotic I need, what frequency - how should I know? I'm not the doctor. I can't even imagine if this had been an emergency - the doctor is nowhere to be found! It took almost 24 hours before I was able to procure my prescription, and by then, my wound was a bit inflamed. This likely could have been avoided if the Dr. made it possible to adhere to his own plan. Eventually the next day, a nurse did call and apologize, and my prescription order was sent to my pharmacy. In Sum/TL;DR: Dr. Yoo and his nurses are nice enough, but his secretary is rude and things are poorly organized. I would consider going in again to have something small removed, because believe it or not, he was easier to schedule with than other dermatologists (e.g. shorter waiting times for appointments, accepts most insurance, convenient location). However, be advised: Dr. Yoo is pretty much impossible to reach if there are complications or if something happens after-hours, and if you are having a serious procedure, the risks aren't worth it.

Dr Engelkemeir's (EN-gull-keh-MY-er), is by far THE BEST doctor I have ever seen. Like I said, I've been to a lot of docs, incl neurologists, of course ob's, otolaryngologists, and more, and no one has been as attentive as Dr E, as the staff calls her. She truly listens to what I have to say and actually lets me finish my sentence before responding. In fact, she was on her way out the door at the end of one of my appts, and I said "OH! One more thing?" and she said "Oh sure, sure!" and shut the door, put her clipboard down and took a seat. Wouldn't you agree that most docs would hang in the door way with it wide open and wait for you to quickly ask your question? Not Dr E. She stuck around for another 10 mins! PERSONALLY CALLS PATIENTS BACK!!!: On one of my appts with Dr E, I forgot to ask her for refills on a Rx that I originally obtained from my previous PCP. So, a couple days later I called the office and left a message with the phone person stating that I needed an Rx from Dr E, but it wasn't a refill with her. About an hour later, Dr E CALLED ME HERSELF!!! Not the receptionist. Not the nurse. The doctor! I have NEVER heard that happen before! SMILES: Doctors don't smile enough. They don't feel welcoming or comforting. Dr E is always smiling - and not in the phony or belittling way - in a sincere way. I really think she's happy helping her patients and is actually concerned about the welfare of her patients. My old doc used to lecture me with a frown... =\ I'm pretty sure that I'll be sticking with Dr E permanently. I'm even thinking ahead and hoping she'll accept my children as new patients (that is, when I have kids). BTW, the staff at Seton Family Health Center are SUPER friendly and also welcoming! I had read a past review on Yelp that this office had refused a Pap smear to another patient, but assumed it was maybe a fluke. I was wrong. I too (because I'm now 30) was refused a pap. I thought this was odd because I was complaining about pain in this area. She still advised against it. So I decided to just get my oral contraceptive prescription refilled as I've been doing for the last 5+ years. She advised that although it's my decision, she made me aware of the risks (which I've known for many years). I called a few days later to check on the prescription and was told that she would not be authorizing my refill. She instead suggested the patch or the shot, which I've tried and disliked in the past. This means my insurance company likely spent hundreds of dollars on this doctor and I spent my time and I yielded absolutely nothing. I was not examined properly as requested and scheduled and I'm unable to refill my prescription. A huge waste of time and money. Apparently I'm too old for a pap, but too young (or incompetent) to make wise decisions about my body and to continue use of a medication I have years of experience with.

And thru the years she's discovered many pre cancerous moles, including one recently that she said wasn't melanoma (phew), but a more severe version of pre cancer. She said this this she was going to refer me to a derm surgeon for Mohs surgery. She referred me to this practice and i made an appt for a few weeks later with Dr. Ashourian. I parked (at a discounted validated rate) in the Neimans building where this office is located. And I was immediately shown to a room for surgery. The nurse was super friendly and helpful and then Dr. Ashourian came in a few minutes later. Dr. Ashourian could not have been nicer and we kept saying we felt like we knew each other from somewhere. Our daughters are about the same age so perhaps from my city days! She also did a great job explaining the procedure and after care. The entire thing was done within minutes and with minimal pain. She also gave me a suture kit so that i could get the stitches out from a dr. friend so I didn't have to go all the way back to the city. And most importantly 6 days later got a call that all came back clear- whoo hoo! I'm hoping no pre cancerous or (worse) cancerous skin conditions in my future, but if I needed a derm surgeon I wouldn't hesitate to return here.

Not sure who's managing billing/ops end of the store--it seems the back end of the shop operates in a way that does not serve the Dr--at least publicly. Never made the appt--total bummer. I chose Dr. Weiler as my physician upon moving to Chicago 7 years ago and every time I see her I…read moremarvel at what a truly great choice that was. This time it was an injury to my arm. I misjudged the weight of a crate and ouch, that hurt. I assumed it was a simple muscle strain, but I'm no physician. Dr. Weiler, however, recognized my symptoms as consistent with a more serious injury and, thanks to her and her very professional staff, I had an X-ray, an MRI and saw a specialist, all within four days of my initial visit with her. There's no way I could've achieved all these appointments on my own. It's only because of Dr. Weiler and her staff that I got in to see a specialist that very same week. UPDATE: Within 10 days of that first appointment with Dr. Weiler, I learned I'd suffered a 95-percent separation of my bicep, and had the surgery necessary to correct it. Yes. All within 10 days. If not for Dr. Weiler, the injury I mistook for a simple strain could've very easily become so severe that even surgery wouldn't have been an option. Besides that, the specialist to whom she referred me was among the best of the best. Another win for Dr. Weiler. She's got a lot of those.
