    Circus in parking lot
    Lenore P.

I should have known from the circus in the parking lot that things had taken a turn here. I stayed here about 10 years ago and it was much better. I paid $500 for one night in August 2022. Not a great value, friends. There seemed to be about 4-5 other cars in the parking lot, assuming they weren't with the carnies. We also stayed one night at Embassy Suites (3.5/5) and Captain Cook (5/5), for reference. All the same price. The room was clean but the bed needed replacing quite a long time ago. Staff was polite but it was so awkward feeling like we were one of 10 or so in the entire hotel. Redrum? Eeesh.

Viking Hall - Great cooks have great fun at a self-catered event!

I didn't get to see other fellow Yelpers, but it wouldn't have been easy given how packed the place was. The entire main hall was filled with vendors displaying the rich culture of Norway, Finland, and Sweden. There was a wide variety of arts & crafts, winter-style attire like boots as well as thick sweatshirts, novelty items with the national flags like pins, stickers, or Christmas ornaments, and my personal favorite, the food. There were various candies and chocolates imported from Norway and Finland. Some of the items I picked out were two milk chocolate bars, one with hazelnuts, a chocolate horse with punch filling on the inside....(can't wait to try that one...), and Swedish gummy candies. In addition to the vendors, there was also a dining area in one corner next to a food booth that offers traditional dishes from the region. Two of the items on the menu were sold out, hardly a surprise with the amount of people that were seated at the chairs and tables. I was fortunate enough to get the last order of Risengrot, a Norwegian rice porridge very similar to American oatmeal with a thick consistency. One of the employees behind the counter recommended adding sugar and cinnamon. It was very delicious and made for a great afternoon snack. Risengrot is a holiday staple during Christmas time in Norway. In addition to the candies, I came across a 2020 calendar that showed the beautiful countryside and picturesque towns with a backdrop of the fjords in the distance. I had a great time meeting and talking to everyone here, some of them locals who own businesses here in town. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back for the next one.

It is one of few Anchorage event facilities available to rent, that can hold over 150 people. Parking is ample and the building is secluded enough from neighboring homes. The facility includes a coffee shop/cafe area that you can choose to be open during your event. The facility kitchen is large and open. You have the ability to choose what spaces you want to rent, with the largest space being the gym. If your event has alcohol you will be required to rent the facility as a whole. I like that all rental information to include costs, deposits, etc is laid out clearly online. You will not need to contact anyone directly until you are ready. I believe they even have bouncy houses available to rent. Like most facilities, they have staff there watching. Sometimes they're cool, sometimes they're annoyingly saying the music is too loud when we in the crowd, can barely hear it. Gotta take the good with with the bad ya know?!

Coffee shop staff is super nice, decent/regular prices. If your kid is going to a basketball program (like mine is), make sure you sign them in. You have to- for liability purposes. We didn't for basketball games, but for practice yes. They host Halloween events (and possibly other holiday events) that I've seen too, just haven't been able to go to them. Bathrooms and pretty much everywhere in general is clean and staff is nice.

I would give zero stars if I could…read more I am extremely disappointed and concerned with how The Dome handled the situation involving my 7-year-old son. The incident occurred during the summer of 2025. At the time, The Dome told my son's stepmother that he would be allowed to return this year. However, I am now being told that he has been permanently removed from the program. My son has been receiving behavioral health services through Alaska Child and Family Services and Child and Family Development since March 2024, and he has had an IEP through his school since the 2022-2023 school year. Despite his age and documented needs, The Dome permanently removed him without properly investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. My son was not given three warnings before being removed from the program. We also requested additional documentation and information about what happened, but our concerns were not properly addressed. My understanding is that my son was told by an older child to damage property. Yet, the older child involved was not removed from the program, while my 7-year-old was permanently removed. I find this extremely unprofessional and unfair. If The Dome had already decided to permanently remove my son, why was his stepmother told that he could return this year? Why were we not given clear communication or the opportunity to address the situation? Children, especially those with behavioral and developmental needs, deserve patience, understanding, appropriate support, and a fair process. I am asking The Dome to provide transparency and accountability regarding how this situation was handled and why the decision to permanently remove my son was made without properly investigating the circumstances.

I expected a lot more blocks and building toys but my toddler was able to have a lot of fun and make her rounds. They had soft frisbees, soft balls, little bikes, etc. There was a face painter who was not only talented, but was super fast and we appreciated that because the line was long and toddlers can't be expected to be so patient. I had no idea this facility runs as a gym also. There's an area off to the side with equipment. They have a track. I was aware however, that many different teams hold practice here.

The complimentary airport shuttle driver drove in total silence and ignored my greeting--a head nod or a quick recommendation about Anchorage would have gone a long way for a first impression. However, the second we walked into the lobby, the rest of the hotel staff completely changed our minds. The front desk team was incredible, allowing us to check in early and placing us on a high floor with a fantastic view that thrilled our kids. Throughout our stay, I was amazed by how hard this entire team works. Staff members were constantly cleaning, warmly greeting guests in the hallways, and accommodating every request with a smile. The breakfast crew in particular deserves major props: even when understaffed and facing impatient, demanding crowds, they handled the morning rush with grace, kindness, and patience. The setup is ideal for families--spacious rooms, immaculate cleanliness, and a central location that's just a quick drive to both the airport and downtown Anchorage. By the end of our stay, the genuine warmth of the staff made it hard to say goodbye. Pro Tip: Take advantage of their prime location for easy downtown access, and be sure to pack a little extra patience and kindness for the hardworking breakfast team in the mornings!
