Plenty of pull outs, benches, and look out points along the way. There was one point of the trail that had some bumps that appear to be in the process of being repaved, but otherwise no complaints. The only downside, biking up to Kincaid park was a challenge and the views at the top aren't worth it, there is also nothing waiting up top. Would be cool to see a coffee shop or something of the sort.

With almost 500,000 acres, Chugach (pronounced CHEW-gatch) State Park is one of the four largest state parks in the United States. It dominates South-Central Alaska and includes diverse topography ranging from the mountains of the Alaska Range to Prince William Sound including glaciers, ice fields, lakes, and ocean shoreline. Parts of it are just 7 miles from Anchorage making it also very easy to visit. Highlights include: * Eagle River Nature Center * Thunder Bird Falls * Turnagain Arm Trail * Bird Point * Eklutna Lake * and more. Fees for entrance varied, but annual passes ($50) are available (including online) which would of simplified things. We visited several areas within Chugach State Park including Eagle River, Bird Point, Girdwood, and others for which I don't know their names. All of it was beautiful whether it was the mudflats of the Turnagain, the blue ice of Portage Glacier, or wildlife along Eagle River. We mostly visited Chugach to meet Mother Nature in Alaska. The results were memorable and amazing (check out the pics); however, for locals and tourists alike Chugach State Park provides an excellent opportunity close to Anchorage for hiking, climbing, viewing wildlife, biking, camping, skiing, climbing, and much more because Chugach State Park is truly big & beautiful.

Recently, a new indoor playground has been added and we were finally able to visit it today. Sign-in at the front desk. Most of the building/flooring is original FYI. There is lots of signage to direct you. There is a large enough space to store your shoes (don't forget socks). Lots of trash receptacles around. Clean bathrooms with infant changing stations near. The playground is large, clean, and has something for most kids. I'd say the bulk of the structure is geared towards older kids (and/or climbers). See the Muni website for playground hours. Definitely worth checking out on a cloudy day like today.

Then I…read morerealized it was listed simply as "Russian Jack Springs", which makes it sound like a quaint Canadian hot springs in the mountains...(I've since submitted an edit, it should show up with "park" in the title now) It's not that. It is a shockingly great park. It's in an area of town where you wouldn't expect to find a park, and it's quite massive. It's got green houses you can tour, a hill for sledding, trails for hiking/running, and even a GOLF COURSE and CLUBHOUSE. Is it a bougie golf course and clubhouse? Of course not. But it's cheap and solid. Golf for the people! I got some BBQ from Smokehouse which is less than a mile away, ate in the park, then went for a short walk on the trails to burn off that brisket, and I was still back to work in time. Don't take Anchorage living for granted! I hope to come back in the winter to get on that sledding hill!

And even though there is a fresh powder, the tracks are still visible and ready to be skied. I can only speak on the cross country ski trails here, but I've been super impressed with them. There is also a sledding hill, skate skiing area and a lodge style building that I've never seen open. I understand there are also community greenhouses on the property that you can check out. After three trips here and over two hours spent, I have yet to see the entire park. So much to explore, great for beginners, and well lit. For being so close to a major road, I'm amazed at how quiet and serene this place is. There's a private parking lot, off Lidia Selkregg Lane. I've never had a problem finding a spot. I think parking is free because I didn't see any fee stations.

I know they watch pretty good over cameras to take care of any rough behavior that we experienced the first time with a kid that was probably right on the cusp of being too old. Second time was nice with all 1-2 year olds and they can run, climb and crawl. You have to pay 1$ to get in for a family of 4 and the times vary so check the website ahead of time. This summer 2026 they are moving the time to start at 12 noon and ending some time later in the afternoon, probably due to summer camp type usage of the room. I would definitely take my son back here it is a good time. This building has lots of other uses like pickelball, tennis, and other activities.

We had an exciting ride, saw glaciers, saw huge icebergs and made some memories that will last forever. The boat took us up the white water rivers at over 25 MPH and when we skirted the rocks, it felt like a race car cornering around a race track. Don't get the idea that it was dangerous though. Andy was a master at piloting the boat so I would trust him with my mother. This was an easy adventure but it was spectacular. Don't miss this and enjoy the ride!!
