Nice little local brewery with way above average food and cool ambiance with board games to boot…read more Came in on our way driving from Victoria to Ucluelet for a decent beer and dinner after a long day of hiking and driving. We were pleasantly surprised by a small, but nice brewpub with board games to boot. They didn't have any tables for four because of reservations, but we were able to sit at the bar and set our kids up with a game of Battleship while we had some beer and food. The beer wasn't world class, but also didn't disappoint. The unicycle sour IPA, was my standout, but the porter and monster mash IPA were also good. The rest were fine, but not amazing. The food was (if anything) better than the beer. The plain cheese pizza my son got was good and had nicely browned cheese all over. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but not unpleasantly so. I'd probably lean more into pizza next time even if it's a bit too carb heavy. The spuds (potato wedges) were only OK. I got the Thai chicken salad, which was spicy with great greens and good chicken. Nice and fresh. My wife seemed to be less enamored of her bahn mi burger, but still said it was good. The service was attentive and happy to accommodate us and our kids. Would definitely come again.

The service was friendly and attentive and the cooks made the food super fast. The French press earl gray was very good. It was a great family restaurant. It was overall a great experience.

So... This is a bizarre review…read more.. The food, I have to say, was pretty good. Solid pub fare. The most enjoyable hot wings I've had at a pub in years. Nachos that were cheesy and loaded with toppings. Weird toppings maybe, and a very strange tasting salsa, but not bad... The ambiance on a Monday night is a little meh. Only about 6 tables seated in quite a large, voluminous space, made it feel a little vacuous. Maybe if they turned their lights down a bit the vibe might be a bit nicer. They sure like their decorative lights here.... The server was very nice. Pleasant, but could have come around to check on things a couple times more, especially since it was so quiet. Now, for the weird part... Toward the end of my nachos I lost my appetite when I saw a mouse scurrying on the floor. It was very daring and was exploring under tables right up to me. I notified my server and she said "oh we know, we try to catch them but it's difficult. I think we caught one a couple days ago. Yesterday I saw one run up the stairs. I'm sorry you had to see that. Would you like a box for your nachos?" Um, no thanks! I finished my drink while watching this mouse wander around a few more times, and ANOTHER mouse come out from the opposite side of the room. and decided it was time to leave. There was no other response from my server about this - I just paid my bill and left. I get that this is a port town close to water, but it seems like these folks probably need to get a bit more serious about pest control.

It definitely gets busy but it is one of the best restaurants in Tofino. I enjoyed all of their drinks, including the mocktails, and all their food, especially theirs salads, oysters, and steak. Everything was delicious. Jay was a great server and the bar hostesses were helpful and kind. A very pleasant experience overall.

While we didn't get a dining room table, the bar seating turned out to be a great experience. The bartender was friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed trying a few beer tastings and ordered some local Tofino beers. It was a fun way to discover some local beers. The highlight was the SHELTER Beef Burger and fries. The burger had the perfect flavour, and the fries were a great match. It was a satisfying meal after exploring Tofino. Tofino is a popular tourist destination, reservations are highly recommended if you want a specific dinner time and a comfortable dining room seat. Walk-ins are still accepted, but you may need to wait for a table or dine later in the evening, sometimes after 8pm. Overall, Shelter is a highly recommended stop in Tofino. Great drinks, delicious food, and excellent service. We just wish we could have enjoyed the same great meal in a more comfortable dinner seat! Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay!
