Dim Sum King has become one of our favorite Chinese spots in Estero when we're craving family-style comfort food. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including the beef and broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, seafood XO sauce chow fun, braised eggplant, spring rolls, and the hometown scallion pancakes. The standouts for me were the honey walnut shrimp, which had just the right balance of sweetness and crunch, and the seafood XO sauce chow fun, packed with flavor and loaded with shrimp and calamari. The braised eggplant was silky and delicious, and the beef and broccoli was a solid classic done well. The only miss was the hometown scallion pancake. I was expecting a traditional pan-fried version, but it came deep-fried instead. It was still tasty, just not what I had envisioned. One tip: rice is ordered separately, so keep that in mind when placing your order. And definitely ask for the chili oil. It adds a wonderful kick and takes many of the dishes to the next level. They have a wide variety of dim sum options, with most being available all day. This is great for anyone unable to come during more trading dim sum hours. On the weekends, they offer roasted duck. We just finished eating dinner at this spot and I had high expectations but left very unsatisfied. We ordered the Shanghai dumplings, sesame balls, general Tso's chicken and the XO noodles. You could tell the dumplings were frozen and they were just heated up, the sesame balls we're undercooked. The chicken was okay, a little too sweet to the point where it just reminded me of orange chicken and the noodles had barely any sauce? The service was barely okay. If the food is going to be okay, let the customer service be good or at least decent. After they took our order, no one came to check on us. We were waiting for someone to stop by so we could ask for chopsticks but they never did so my boyfriend just got up to get it himself. All were hot and fresh and tasted pretty authentic, at least per our experience in NYC Chinatown and Boston Chinatown Dim Sum houses. We went to the Hard Rock for a concert and along the way I researched Yelp for some dining possibilities in the Ft. Myers area and came up with Dim Sum King as our choice. Yelpers were not wrong about the food here. The Dim Sum ranged from tasty to downright outrageous! The duck was some of the tastiest bbq'd asian duck me and my fiancé ever tried. We were reminded of a cross between a Warm, fluffy Krispy Kreme Donut and a traditional pork bun. It fluffed with this light donut like dough with a generous amount of juicy char shu'y filling wrapped up and served with a sweet crumbly pastry Ike topping. What a nice combo of sweet and savory. WARNING the bad boys are addicting!!!! We actually came back on Sunday for a second round before we departed for our trip back to Dunedin. One dish that did disappoint was the bbq pork. It was just lacking. Our server was so pleasant and had no problem in swapping the dish out for another order of the tasty duck we had the night before. The owner and our server were really on top of our dining experience and coming over to see if everything was satisfactory. This was our first visit to Dim Sum King. It is very convenient when you want to eat before going to Hertz Arena or if you are shopping at in the Gulf Coast area. When you walk in, it is not clear if you are to seat yourself or wait to be seated. We stood there for several minutes before anybody acknowledged us. Then after we were seated, it was a good 10 minutes before we were waited on. It is a bit strange that none of the servers look your way. We sampled a variety of small Dim Sum plates and enjoyed them all. Oddly, one of the weakest dishes was the pan fried dumplings, usually a hit at Dim Sum. Don't miss the pineapple custard buns for a sweet finish. As others pointed out, the price of some dishes seems high. Some of the soups were $15-$17, perhaps they serve more than one? Note that you order Dim Sum off of a menu, they do not have carts roaming the restaurant. You can also order more traditional Cantonese options along with Dim Sum. I've been struggling to find good Chinese food in the area, and the search is over!! Dim Sum King fulfilled my craving. Coming from NYC, I'm used to authentic and delicious Chinese food so moving here was a struggle when I didn't have access to it. Then, I discovered this authentic and delicious restaurant. Highly recommend the House Chow Fun. The noodles were cooked to perfection and so flavorful and there was a generous amount of beef, pork, and shrimp in it. It's a must order! Also, the honey walnut shrimp were SPECTACULAR. The shrimp were plump, sauce was sweet and creamy, broccoli nice and firm, and the walnuts added great texture. We also got har gow (shrimp dumplings) and they were so squishy and yummy. I dipped them in soy sauce which was delicious, but think it could be elevated if served with a specialty sweet sauce. Dim Sum King expanded from Sarasota to Estero and setup shop across street from Costco at Alico Road in the Gulf Coast Town Center. It opened about two weeks without any fanfare. This is the former Tijuana Flats location. Currently, they have less than 20 inside tables or booths available. However, there is outside space by the side where we used to smash the Pinata by the rail guard when it was Tijuana Flats! This is a brand new facility, the wall are simply decorated with pictures of Dim Sum on the wall. Since this is a year of Rabbit, a rabbit sitting on a shelf with a scroll of "Happy New Year" was overlooking the dining area. The menu is almost identical to Dim Sum King from Sarasota/Bradenton. Our first visit was on Saturday for dinner. We ordered, roasted duck, Shrimp with Walnut, and baby clams with black bean sauce. Please note that roasted ducks are only available on the weekend. It is authentic and flavorful! The baby clams with black bean sauce are cooked perfectly. It is delicious; however, I like a little kick in my clams, maybe I can ask the chef put a little Jalapeno instead of green scallions! The shrimp with walnut were great! It was accompanied with lettuce instead of broccoli. Nevertheless, wife loves the walnut shrimp! We went back for Dim Sum lunch 4 days later. We started with a steamed rice roll with shrimp. The rice roll is smooth and the sauce complimented the shrimp very well. It is spot on! Next item is the bean curd skin roll with oyster sauce. This is a filling Dim Sum and we love the sauce. Two lotus leaf sticky rice is steaming hot and Chinese sausage, pork, with mushroom are amazing. Wife's comment, "They are tasty and good size!". We finished with deep-fried Taro cake. We've been searching for a dine in Chinese restaurant for months and went here based on reviews. Did not disappoint! Located near Gulf Coast mall, this place has convenient parking. For entrees, we had the shrimp & broccoli and Mongolian beef, along with yang chow fried rice. The rice was tender, hot and delicious, and had an ample amount of egg scrambled throughout, which I happen to like. It also had a hint of cilantro in it, which is really not typical but a welcome fresh flavor. I asked for the shrimp and broccoli to be spicy and it was. The shrimp were a generous size and portion; the broccoli was cooked perfectly; slightly crispy stems but florets were soft. The flavor was a little salty but enjoyable. The Mongolian beef was oh so tender and had the right amount of heat, served in a dark brown sauce with an abundance of onions. Hubby was elated with this dish. Unfortunately, I forgot to get photos of everything. My only issue was that the kitchen timing seemed off and we got appetizers along with entrees (even though we specifically asked to not get all the food at once) and our friends were served their entrees before we even got our appetizers. So 1 star deducted for inconsistent serving. They serve Cantonese style food, which is what we had, or dim sum. We will definitely go back to try the dim sum.
