Recently came back to get my favorite, their fried pork chop rice, and it literally tastes the exact same as when I first had it all the way back in 2017. We like to get dim sum to go from this funny shack on the way to visit my mom in Rose Hills. It's pretty fun your order a window and pick up at the next window. It's just a slice of life. I decided to stop by Dim Sum Express this afternoon with my husband and our little girl dog since my husband was getting hangry. We got one of the menus and started marking the items we wanted on the paper (please note that you are purchasing per item and not per set). We ended up purchasing: Chicken rice in lotus leaf wrap, $3.50 prior to tax- I love sticky rice and always love to order this when I am at a dim sum restaurant. The rice was glutenous, sticky and just good. The filling itself was good with seasoned ground chicken. Pork Siu Mai, $1.25 prior to tax- We ordered two of these and thought the amount of pork in the siu mai was a great size. Shrimp Har Gow, $1.45 prior to tax- We ordered two of these but my greedy husband ate both of them :/ so I didn't get a chance to have any (his excuse is that he thought we ordered 3 of these... but if you look at my photos of our order, I think it was pretty clear that we only had 2... and he was the one who filled out the paper). But he really did enjoy both of them. Turnip Cake, $1.50 prior to tax- We only ordered one and I did not eat it yet since I was already getting full after eating the sticky rice I had mentioned above. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, $1.80 prior to tax- My husband ordered one steamed bun for himself and thought it was really good, especially since it was served nice and hot. Steamed Chicken Bun, $1.80 prior to tax- We got one order for my mom since she loves steamed chicken buns so no one ate this yet. Egg Tart, $1.65 prior to tax- I ordered 2. These were freshly made and brought out of the oven and was warned by the friendly employee behind the glass that they are very hot and to be very careful (which I thought was very kind of the employee to tell us this). Having egg tarts hot and fresh out of the oven really is the best way to have them. After eating the items we purchased (mentioned above), these egg tarts were still pretty hot but were very good. I loved the flakey crust and thought the custard portion of the tarts itself was very good and had the right balance of sweetness and egg flavor. But these egg tarts are pretty tiny. ------------------------------ (Total= $18.94 after tax) Please note that this place is CASH ONLY. After ordering, we waited about 10 minutes for our order to be ready. There are two benches but stacked up upon each other so you really aren't able to eat your order here (although we did but with only myself sitting on the bench and bending myself so that I could fit it and my husband and our little girl standing while they ate). You can either eat in your car if you are really hungry or I suppose take it home with you and wait 'til then to eat your purchase. Service was friendly, quick and the food was excellent. I just tried the Shu Mai and the Har Gaw shrimp since I wasn't too hungry and it's a popular dim sum items. It is not the best I have tried but it is decent. It is a good size for each item. Once you're done give it to them at the window. its CASH ONLY and once you pay they give you a number. Wait for your number to be called at the second window and thats it! Parking is super tiny since its just a walk up window. No where to sit really maybe a picnic table but not a place to bring a large group and hang out. Plan to park on the street or nearby grocery story and walk over. Totally worth the walk up. I haven't waited too long here but if you do just know it will be fresh and huge portions. Make sure you have cash on hand as this place is cash only. You start out by filling out an order sheet with your desired quantities of each item. You then hand it to the cashier and they tell you your total and give you a number on your receipt. For our order it took around 10 minutes for them to pack it, but this included items like chow mien, orange chicken, and pecking pork chop. The food is still pretty good and reasonable to this day, but I will admit that its not the same as what they used to have. I dropped by this morning to pick up some dim sum for breakfast and was very disappointed in the quality of the food! I ordered the bbq pork buns, the sesame balls, the hom suey gok, and the siu mai. They were all hard, dried and stale. They were leftovers from yesterday that they couldn't sell and they just refried them again this morning to give to their customers. The siu mai was the worst I've tasted. It was just watered down chopped up pork. Where are the other ingredients like shrimp and wood fungus? I've been going to Dim Sum Express since I was a kid and it's still my favorite to-go dim sum to this day! The quality has remained the same and prices are still pretty cheap compared to other places. My go to order consists of their Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, Baked BBQ Pork Bun, Sesame Rice Ball w/ Lotus Paste, Custard Tart, Pot Stickers and Thai Tea drink! Everything is always fresh and steaming hot. They also have fast food items (Various fried rice, Chow meins, Meats and Seafood) if you're looking for more of a lunch. I've never personally tried any of it but I can definitely say their dim sum items are great. They're usually busy when we go on the weekends so I'd suggest calling ahead of time for a pickup order. You just let them know what you want and give your name & phone number so they can have it ready when you get there. We have been coming here for a few years. Their quality is consistently good to very good. There used to be a smelly lot in the back. Many people walk here from the surrounding neighborhood and businesses. The lot can get full since it is small. There is limited street parking near by. The menu is more limited than a full dim sum restaurant. Check their menu to make sure they have the item you want before going here. There is often a line and it sometimes moves slowly. Plan to wait a least a little bit to medium length time for your food. There usually no where to eat here, plan to eat in your car or take it home.
