During the very sad, overwhelming and emotional times after losing a loved one, it's comforting to know that SHB is available to shoulder the task and help you and your family navigate through the storm. In confusing and uncharted journeys, it's important to have trusted and highly experienced professionals available to help. Once again, after losing a close relative last October, we are appreciative of the professional manner that the arrangements for our cousin were planned and perfectly executed by SHB.

Driven by this location many time was pretty surprised by the ease of getting in and getting out as the funeral was promptly after the business day concluded. There were ushers helping us park cars as it was a large gathering from in and out of state that was here to bid farewell to a friend and family. The lot was pretty tight yet served us well as I didn't have to fight for a spot and was heading inside. The staircase leading upstairs from the lot that I had parked was beautiful, though we all were dressed in black attire. Two different rooms for seating and the bigger room held the casket and visitors came to pay their respects. A decently sizes funeral home that some had to squeeze by others while there was still areas for groups to congregate. I imagine that a lot of thought and preparation was put into honoring this man and this funeral home did him justice. Cannot speak to the procession the day after to the cemetery as I couldn't attend but I imagine thar it was well organized and handle the business of the Elmwood West Hartford area.

Many walkways and roadways throughout the park, lots of trees and grass. Definitely a park. At the entrance, you can pick up brochures for the visitors guide and a cell phone audio tour. The sections are reasonably numbered and I did not have too much trouble finding the resting places I wanted to see. Katherine Kepburn, Samuel & Elizabeth Colt, Thomas Gallaudet, JP Morgan and Thomas Brownell. Of course, many other non-celebrities are laid to rest here. Cedar Hill is an active cemetery with ongoing burials and memorials. Please be respectful of those who are visiting their relatives. And of course, please don't litter - bring your trash with you! When we get there, the Cemetary people brought us to the incorrect plot. I tried several times to tell the Funeral Employees that we were at the wrong spot, they finally realized the problem. Some Idiot in the Cemetary Office "transposed" the numbers where the plot was. Even the people who dug the grave did not check if it was correct. This is an embarrassment to not just the Funeral home, but also the Family. The person in the Office did not do a very good job, and needs to be spoken to, and their worked checked. The Family will not pay twice to the Cemetary.

I will be updating this review as the rest of the process unfolds, as well as uploading all of my correspondence with the woman at the funeral home (who is in no way, shape, or form qualified to deal with anyone's loved ones.) The emails I received from her were deeply upsetting. The customer entrusted them to send the ashes to me so I could create her jewelry piece. It was sent via express with insufficient postage paid. I initially refused the package because I did not bill them for the additional shipping, and it was not included in the purchase from the customer. I told my postal worker I would look into it and get back to him the next day. I called the post office and they stated that the postage wasn't paid in full by the funeral home. I called TWICE to let them know what had happened and no one ever got back to me with a solution. I was not in the office the last delivery attempt and therefor it got sent back to them. I told them that I would not accept the package unless the postage was paid, and the woman emailing me said "I will just send this info to the family and they can file a claim with you." The only thing holding up this transaction with the customer is the receipt of the ashes! Her $640 ring is already complete and just needs the ashes added. Her insinuating filing a claim or any sort (because the funeral home is the one who made the purchase, for some reason. They made the customer do it under the funeral home's name, which is not normal practice) leads me to believe they will file a charge back and I will be out time and materials over NOTHING other than them not wanting to pay $25 to send me the ashes the correct way. Either way, I don't need any sort of empty threats over this crap, I am simply a middleman in this whole thing and now I have been dragged into it. Stay posted for photos if this gets crazier. Hopefully they do the right thing and just send the ashes to me.

I recently attended a funeral at De Leon funeral home in Hartford, CT…read more When I arrived I was not directed where to enter, so I walked halfway around the building to approach the front doors. This was my first time at De Leon funeral home, so I was unfamiliar with the building. It was not obvious to me who or where the funeral director was at the time, because he was dressed in jeans and an untucked shirt. He looked strangely unkempt. It was then that the funeral director informed myself and others that we were walking the wrong way, and simply pointed his index finger on his outstretched arm. The ceremony was in progress, and the priest was giving his prayer, when the funeral director stepped in front of the rows of chairs filled with people, and made his way up to the casket to remove the plastic floral picks (card holders) and cards on the deceased's flower arrangements. This was so disrespectful, as the service was still going on! I could not believe my eyes! There was a moment of transition after the priest finished and left, and when a few people began to approach the casket to say their goodbyes. It was clearly evident that many folks had not said their last goodbyes to the deceased when the funeral director, in a rushed, monotone and uncomforting voice, ended the night with the following, and I quote; "The funeral home will be closing now, so if you haven't said your last goodbyes, say them now". It seemed like he was rushing everyone out so that he could be home in time for his prime-time T.V. show. I should also mention, that Jennifer Tucci assisted in making the arrangements with the family prior to the funeral service. Ms. Jennifer Tucci never made mention of suggestions for where to buy flowers or offering the family the option to write an obituary for the deceased. It is important to note here that, if a family has never planned a funeral first hand, they might not know to ask questions like these. It should be the responsibility of the funeral home to make these suggestions to a mourning family. Sadly this funeral home and its employees fell FAR short of their duties and obligations. Because of De Leon Funeral Home's shortcomings, my loved one was not given the proper farewell they so deserved. I don't often write reviews, as I don't have much spare time to do so. However, this experience was so hurtful that I felt it necessary to write a review. I write this review to share my experience in hopes of helping others to make the best decision when planning their loved ones farewell.

Many of the grave markers from the 17th century did not age well with time; those deteriorated because it was made of wood and weaker stones. The tombstones that outlasted time were from wealthy families that had the funds to purchase, have it engraved, and shipped to Wethersfield. There weren't many grave carvers in town at that time. There are only 3 tombstones that survived; all three were from the 17th century. Most of the tombstones were made of brownstones and grey granite schist. There were quite a few that I could not see any markings on it. Most of the tombstones were placed in an unorganized way; back then they chose whichever spots were available. It was nice and peaceful walking through. It fascinates me that these people were alive 386 years ago. There were definitely newer tombstones as well. I sense that this place gets really creepy at night....
