During the very sad, overwhelming and emotional times after losing a loved one, it's comforting to know that SHB is available to shoulder the task and help you and your family navigate through the storm. In confusing and uncharted journeys, it's important to have trusted and highly experienced professionals available to help. Once again, after losing a close relative last October, we are appreciative of the professional manner that the arrangements for our cousin were planned and perfectly executed by SHB.

Driven by this location many time was pretty surprised by the ease of getting in and getting out as the funeral was promptly after the business day concluded. There were ushers helping us park cars as it was a large gathering from in and out of state that was here to bid farewell to a friend and family. The lot was pretty tight yet served us well as I didn't have to fight for a spot and was heading inside. The staircase leading upstairs from the lot that I had parked was beautiful, though we all were dressed in black attire. Two different rooms for seating and the bigger room held the casket and visitors came to pay their respects. A decently sizes funeral home that some had to squeeze by others while there was still areas for groups to congregate. I imagine that a lot of thought and preparation was put into honoring this man and this funeral home did him justice. Cannot speak to the procession the day after to the cemetery as I couldn't attend but I imagine thar it was well organized and handle the business of the Elmwood West Hartford area.

Unfortunately, he passed before me, but I'd have changed his instructions anyway. For example, 11/2/24 was my father's yartzeit- I received the letter from Weinstein's with condolences and instructions 11/3. Attention to detail?

It's the kind of business that none of us ever wants to deal with. But it's a business that most of…read moreus will have to deal with sooner or later. I struggled with the question of whether or not to write a Yelp review about a funeral home. We see so many reviews about frivolous things here; complaining about warm food and dressing "not on the side as I specifically requested". Coming here, to do what we had to do, puts all of that stuff into a more focused perspective. I wondered if it would be appropriate to write about something as serious as this. But because we were treated so well, with such respect, and professionalism, and dare I say compassion and kindness, I decided to Yelp Weinstein Mortuary. Mort Weinstein was stellar. He walked us through all of the things we needed to know to handle the passing of a family member. He worked with us, and on our behalf, with clergy arrangements, cemetery arrangements, social security, banking and insurance issues, obituary arrangements, municipal certificates, etc. He was totally professional in every way. He listened to us. He gave us many choices and options. He wasn't pushy. He made us feel comfortable and cared for.

Many walkways and roadways throughout the park, lots of trees and grass. Definitely a park. At the entrance, you can pick up brochures for the visitors guide and a cell phone audio tour. The sections are reasonably numbered and I did not have too much trouble finding the resting places I wanted to see. Katherine Kepburn, Samuel & Elizabeth Colt, Thomas Gallaudet, JP Morgan and Thomas Brownell. Of course, many other non-celebrities are laid to rest here. Cedar Hill is an active cemetery with ongoing burials and memorials. Please be respectful of those who are visiting their relatives. And of course, please don't litter - bring your trash with you! When we get there, the Cemetary people brought us to the incorrect plot. I tried several times to tell the Funeral Employees that we were at the wrong spot, they finally realized the problem. Some Idiot in the Cemetary Office "transposed" the numbers where the plot was. Even the people who dug the grave did not check if it was correct. This is an embarrassment to not just the Funeral home, but also the Family. The person in the Office did not do a very good job, and needs to be spoken to, and their worked checked. The Family will not pay twice to the Cemetary.

Wethersfield Village Cemetery - Very ancient

Wethersfield Village Cemetery

Tis the season to be spooky…read more In 1638, this historic cemetery, the second oldest in Connecticut, was established. Many of the grave markers from the 17th century did not age well with time; those deteriorated because it was made of wood and weaker stones. The tombstones that outlasted time were from wealthy families that had the funds to purchase, have it engraved, and shipped to Wethersfield. There weren't many grave carvers in town at that time. There are only 3 tombstones that survived; all three were from the 17th century. Most of the tombstones were made of brownstones and grey granite schist. There were quite a few that I could not see any markings on it. Most of the tombstones were placed in an unorganized way; back then they chose whichever spots were available. It was nice and peaceful walking through. It fascinates me that these people were alive 386 years ago. There were definitely newer tombstones as well. I sense that this place gets really creepy at night....

My 6 year old child is buried in this cemetery. I consider comments inappropriate and thoughtless. He died Nov. 19th, 1980. Think about it if you have children or not.
