I told him we had 4 other estimates sun- Tues but I was available for his estimate at the end of the week. His 1 sentence reply- 4 estimates is more than you need so not interested. You'd think any REPUTABLE professional would be willing to prove they are as far from those 2 horrible contractors that stole and did horrible work but nope he made us feel like assholes for making sure we did our due diligence (plus 3 estimates were for roofing and the 4th did roofing and exterior which included the window job I was looking for him to do) When a customer has had 1 bad experience let alone 2 in a 2yr period, good contractors want to distance themselves from bad contractors and prove they are upstanding trustworthy and empathize with what you've gone through but this guy immediately made us feel like if we did move ahead he already didn't care 1 iota about us and didn't want to be bothered to put in the effort to get the job (and since I said in my project description there are at least 9 other windows that will need replacing by end of year AND the exterior needs either residing or repainting you think he would have used this to earn our business for the projects this fall) This guy doesn't value potential clients and clearly views coming out to give an estimate when there are other companies in the mix as a waste of time which to me says he knows he overcharges OR he knows his work is poor quality. My advice, don't even waste your time reaching out because he's only interested in speaking to you if there's no other competition and he's going to use that to charge top dollar and potentially do shoddy work. Learned that after the other 2 experiences these past 2 years (and my ex who is a contractor but now in AZ gave me that exact same advice when I explained the responses from this guy) He isn't registered in NH as a business owner, I searched on their website and called the state and he doesn't own or operate a legit business. I also encourage everyone to check out his reviews on thumbtack because there are a concerning number of 1 reviews. He actually did us a favor by being rude to us which made the decision not to hire very easy

A handyman is not just another contractor for large projects but he is the one which you will always need for mid-size & small projects. In a way, it's a marriage for life; therefore, you need to find the right one. For a long while, I have been investigating the top San Diego County's handymen, their Licenses, Bonds, Insurance, BBB, Background & Reviews. I hire a lot of contractors & I always investigate them thoroughly; therefore, almost all my contractors are the best of the best. Read my reviews for some of the top contractors of each field. After a lengthy research & investigation, I came up with a short list & finally it all came down to "The Traveling Toolbox" as the handyman of my choice. I give myself credit to find this fine gentleman Michael Fitzgerald, the owner of The Travelling Toolbox. He is a third generation of substantial & solid handymen. His grandfather, father, uncle & cousins were & are handymen. There were streets in El Cajon named after them because they built parts of El Cajon. The Travelling Toolbox is a family business which covers practically major parts of the Greater San Diego County. This is not yet another Bang & Bologna, fled by night handyman service but they actually have electrical & general contractor licenses with decades of experience. They do everything from simple giant TV wall installation, all the way to electrical, plumbing, tiling, kitchen cabinets, bathrooms, door installations, & remodeling. They almost do everything. No job is too small or too large for them. Why Travelling Toolbox? Michael Fitzgerald has been doing what he does since his early teens working with his father. He actually studied this stuff & trained for life. He has all the proper licenses. He is a veteran who has done 2 tours of Iraq. As a solid American patriot, it is a no brainer for me to hire veterans, especially when they are experts like Michael. Let me give you 3 examples of what Michael has done for me: * Replacing & building 2 large double door kitchen cabinet solid floors. * Replacing a half vented windowed steel exterior laundry room complete door (door, frame & casing) & laundry room wall edge moldings. * Replacing a very difficult complete exterior front double door (door, frame & casing) & painting the exterior large wooden frame molding, interior casing & grouting the edge tiles. The kind where you hear it and go this is gonna hurt and your bank account groans. It was after hours, during the holiday, and I was thinking we were going to be without heat for the night. Not with Card I wasn't. Mike and Dave came over, got the blower working, and got it tightened up so it is no longer sounded like it was dying. I am expecting to pay an after hours service call charge and would have happily paid it as I was grateful they came so quickly. They told me it was just a regular service charge. I would have paid a few hundred, $400 - $500 for an after hours charge and repair with another organization. Not to mention they could have told me it was the blower motor and it needed to be replaced as that is what I was expecting. These guys are great. Their service is HONEST, very fairly priced, and every time they have come the same day, sometimes within a couple of hours. They also give very detailed explanations of the issue and what they are doing to solve it. They are very transparent. I cannot recommend Card enough! Having lived in other places and dealt with other organizations I am extremely pleased that I found them.
