I was very pleased to learn that the focus seems to be on human interaction and outdoor activities. I stopped sending my children to another local summer camp when I noticed campers arriving with electronics, coolers full of food, and camp counselors riding around in several golf carts. These aren't the values or lessons I want my children learning from their summer camp experience. The camp director, Maria, made my first time without my children for a week, such a positive experience. I sent four children this summer and one did have a very difficult time with home sickness. Maria was AMAZING with how she handled his difficulties, stayed in touch with me and still encouraged my son. She has continually been challenged and supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Her artwork includes still-life and portrait drawings. She writes her name in cursive and was empowered to read at the age of five. She has solid math skills and knows all the continents...This is but a taste of what she has learned. More importantly, she is empowered to learn. The classroom environment allows her to help guide her own growth while challenging her to work on skills that will help her in the future (including things like using a hammer and nails and taking space in a place like a "peace loft" when she needs to!). She hasn't just learned how to be a student: she has learned how to be a human being in her world and contribute to it. People constantly comment on how "mature" she is for her age. She has self-control, she's relatively independent, she shows empathy for others, she is endlessly curious and asks thoughtful questions, and she can talk rather deeply about her feelings - among a myriad of other notable qualities related to her time at Namaste. The teachers are incredible, and the progress reports are detailed depictions of our daughter in the classroom. The school also encourages family participation throughout the year, including a "bring an adult to school day" and "gardening day." It is a beautiful community. My husband and I often remark on how Namaste is one of the best decisions we made as parents. What an incredible gift to give her this foundation for the rest of her life.

From the visit, to the first day, and now an year in, I can't think of another place I would want to send my child. He is so happy there: he talks about his friends, he shares how much he likes his teachers (the guide in his classroom has been there for over a decade - it was important for me to know that the people working there are also long-term and they're happy there), he walks in with so much confidence every morning. My child has grown so much over the past year - from toileting on his own, to dressing on his own, to learning patience, trusting other adults and children, feeding the goats his leftover lunch, spending time outside, interacting with children from a wide age-range - Namaste has it all. I am looking forward to many more years with them, and sending future children of mine there. I cannot recommend it enough. Logistically, the hours work for my family, there is after-school and occasional use hours, the families are kind, there's opportunities for parents to be involved with the community, the school breaks when the district breaks, and they are transparent about the schedule so you can plan around school being closed. There are different payment options. The school updates parents regularly on classroom happenings, and I get pictures of my child in his "natural habitat" regularly. They provide healthy snacks a few times a day.

We stopped by Clute Park to take in the views of Seneca Lake, and it does have some nice views. There are also basketball courts, bathrooms, a food vendor stand (although they didn't look open when we were there), a beach area, a playground, and more. I'm sure it's a great spot for families staying in town (and especially those staying in the campground across the street from the park), but you can only pay for the day (not for the hour), so we spent about $8 to just by for a bit to enjoy the views. It's probably possible to find street or free parking nearby and then walk over, but - since it was a holiday weekend - parking was harder to find than usual. The views from the park were okay, but I'd say this park is really a place for families to use the amenities in the park, not for casual tourists in town.

Good gravel roads, spacious site, and full hookups made it easy. Very close to down town, kids park across the street, and right at the bottom of the lake; so close to everything. It is a fun and pandemic appropriate activity! Know a lot about trees already? Test your knowledge and learn more in the nine different collections of trees. Not very tree savvy? Walk around and just enjoy the good old outdoors. Take a seat in one of the pocket gardens and sit down and rest a while. The arboretum provides a quiet peaceful, and beautiful place to walk around. Stop by now, we could all use a bit more of that in our lives!

Absolutely huge state park. As far as state parks go - this one includes a boat dock, the HQ for…read morestate parks in this region, a large hotel, and tons of camping. It was a bit of a drive from the heart of Ithaca but, worth it to see the beautiful namesake waterfall. As rain was expected, we decided to skip the longer hike to the lower falls and went to the upper overlook which was beautiful with a nice visitor area and clean/clear walking paths. If in this area, I think this state park is a must visit.

After briefly stopping at the [free] overlook to get some photos, we decided it would be nice to do…read morethe walk to the falls too, so we chose the Gorge Trail. It was 1 mile each way (from the parking lot to near the base of the falls). The trail was relatively flat and shaded for parts of it (but not all). There were a few benches along the way to take breaks, and water at the beginning of the trail to fill up your water bottle. It costs $10/car to get into the state park but you can use that ticket to get into other state parks on the same day without paying again, which would be great to visit nearby Buttermilk Falls and other parks.

It was the best midday activity for our group of 8. We parked at the upper parking lot and so the hike was just down down down many steps! Note to those with ACL, foot, or other ailments, I would have chosen to do this hike in reverse had I known that was an option. I have a much easier time going up with my pain in the foot issues. That said, the hike was still manageable and I was in minimal pain the next day. We opted to send half the group in a rideshare to pickup the cars from the upper trail parling lot while the rest of us walked to get ice cream down the road. This was a fantastic idea! All in all it was a great adventure and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The views are so stunning!

I first learned of them through a phone app i downloaded to help identify birdsong. We visited on a weekday (Jul 2026), viewing pictures and displays and information about local wildlife. They had a large windowed area looking into wild bird habitats. We walked the trails a little too. It was fun to visit! C'mon out to hike, look, and learn. Join or volunteer or make a donation. It's helping the local birds and birds around the world!

We saw during our short walk two Osprey and Ruby-crowned Kinglets while exploring. The inside is just as impressive, with one of the best interactive museums I've experienced, full of fascinating specimens and thoughtful learning opportunities in a gorgeous building. The gift shop is well stocked and collaborates with Wild Birds Unlimited. A must see if you're in the area and into conservation or wildlife!
