I've been seeing Dr. Tabar for about a year and a half. Definitely one of the best dentists I've had the pleasure of going to. She is extremely kind + attentive and very transparent when it comes to informing patients of what any process may be like and what to expect (both physically, financially, etc.) I came here on the recommendation of my old roommate and I recently recommended my girlfriend to go here. Over the past couple decades, I have had no less than seven dentists in SF. None of them have been as detail oriented and diligent as Dr. Tabbar. She is attentive on matters as wide ranging as insurance reimbursement and exactly where you can expect to feel numb hours after a procedure. There are several private exam rooms & each one of them is done up very nicely. As a bonus, if it makes sense for you to be an active participant rather than numbed up, she has the capability of running live video of your tooth and then close-ups afterwards on a TV monitor, very high tech! read more

Dr. Tabar truly cares about her patients and takes the time to explain the process/options. Her work is high quality and she ensures that patients are satisfied with their results. I'm writing this with mixed emotions. I've been coming here for the past 5 years and have really liked the staff, location, and how clean the place is. Very nice seats for patients (with some light massaging built in as they do work on you) and generally new equipment. Good sanitation practices during Covid, and requiring patients to fill out a Covid form before checking in. Sadly, I will not be coming back anymore. In the past few months, I've had to reschedule my appointment several times for different reasons, but have always given more than the 48 hour minimum as stated by their policy before they charge you a fee. Today when I called to reschedule for my appointment next week (7 day advanced notice), they asked me to place a $180 no-refund deposit since this would be the 4th time I've asked to reschedule. First two times I've had important meetings conflicting with the appointment that I could not skip, so I gave advanced notice. Third time I unfortunately tested positive for COVID, but Dr. Tabar asked me to cancel and reschedule after I test negative, this was a 5 day advanced notice but she was clearly upset over the phone. When I explained to her that I cannot predict when I get Covid, and that her policy says as long as I give 2 days advance notice I would be able to reschedule without penalties (I had planned to test 3 days before the appointment and keep it if results came back negative), then I would be ok. She expressed in a lecturing tone that they recently changed the policy to 5 days now, but nowhere on their website shows this change (even the email I received today 8/5/22, asking me to confirm the next appointment, still shows 48 hr policy). So today, with 7 days advance notice, I called to reschedule the 4th time due to another work related meeting I could not skip, and was given the ultimatum. Their reasoning was they didn't charge any cancellation fees before and this time would be different. First of all, I've always given 48hr+ notice (5 and 7 days past couple of times), and my calls were to always reschedule, never to cancel completely. It didn't sound like they were willing to work out a better resolution, or explain they were making up policies on the fly, so I've decided this is no longer the place for me. Sad they had to lose a loyal patient this way, but I'm not a fan of their business practice. Past few times I've come in, I've noticed that Dr. Tabar becoming more and more condescending to her staff. Sure, it's your dental practice, but please treat others with respect. She's also sometimes intimidating and arrogant towards patients, as if she knows it all and you have to do as she says otherwise you'll be met with judgement attitude. At the start of Covid I didn't feel safe going inside a dental practice, so didn't make an appointment for close to a year IIRC. When I did start coming back she didn't make me feel welcome, but started saying things in a very snarky tone and making me feel guilty of not coming in. welcome to la la land accounting and shady jacking up of prices on treatments post treatment. I have been with them for more than 3 years and an year into it doctor suggested I get 4 periodontal cleaning per year( $134 per procedure ,2 out of pocket and 2 paid of insurance at 80% per year) and did not even want to use/trade the 2 complementary regular cleanings that my insurance allowed. This went for couple of years. I felt it was for my own good On 8/18/2020 , I had to rush to doctor as my front tooth broke middle of night(it will be a whole different review why I lost a front teeth in-spite of meeting doctor 4 times a year). I was asked to prepay 138$ and said there will be refund once insurance pays. They being in-network the max allowed for such procedure is 98$ yet they still charged me 138$. After insurance paid 98$, they gave only 98$ to me in credit as seen ledger (circled in rectangle) in-spite of patient responsibility being 0 for this treatment per insurance and the front desk and doctor just says numbers add up. Trick to be deceive the unsuspecting people who don't go through balances properly. They didn't stop there. They called me on 9/2/2020 to advance my next scheduled periodontal cleaning from 9/21/2020 (which insurance later told would have been covered at 80 percent as it was outside yearly off as my first covered treatment in year was on 9/10/2019) to 9/3/2020 ( which made me pay full 134$ out of pocket as it it is within 5 days of of cutoff). I didn't notice it and went for treatment and paid full 134$ out of my pocket on that day When I asked for final settlement, they showed a ledger where jacked up the price of 9/3/2020 to 198$ (come on!!) and said it is insurance fault . I did point out I paid full 134$ as this treatment was not going to covered by insurance per them . Had to get insurance involved and insurance said they will give one off exception and cover at 80% like usual as the treatment missed cutoff by just 4 or 5 days and the charge for treatment cannot be more than 134$. They take at least 2 to 3 weeks to process the checks from insurance, but they will be very prompt the next day if insurance doesn't cover something. Just keep you running in circles with refunds Tips on how to work with them if you stuck with them: 1. Never let them make you pay using personal card/cash/checks when you have to visit them for something out of the normal visits. Always insist let the insurance pay out and then see what the patient responsibility is and pay only that (Coverage 101 right there) . Unfortunately they will very pushy and make you pay upfront a lot rather than in network negotiated rate. 2. Don't let them change dates of regular cleaning. In this case they did so that it is within insurance cutoff date and they jacked up price 2 weeks after treatment. 3. When they try to push for additional periodontal cleaning, ask them to work with insurance first to see if they can do in lieu of complementary regular cleaning. I ended up not using regular complementary cleaning that insurance covers in full at all in last 2 years. I thought it was the front desk patient coordinator who didn't know how to do her job, but after email exchange with Doctor , it is clear they are in together. I am hoping they will clear both of the dues in next 2 weeks. But already it has been a long, tiring and a lot waste of time dealing with them read more

Digital Dental Practice has been my Dentist for the past two years. The location is very convenient to Bart, walk up the stairs and the building will be on the right hand side. If you work in the Financial District you can most definitely stop by 100 Montgomery for your Dental needs. The Practice is on the floor 3, then take the elevators on the left hand side. The Dentist is super sweet. She answers all of your questions and all of the staff work well together. The cleanings are done in a timely fashion, you are always in and out quickly. As you know working in the city, things can get hectic. But, it's always reassuring that we can visit our Dentists and Doctors within a walking/Uber ride away. I highly recommend Dr. Tabar as an ethical and caring doctor, who will explain pros/cons clearly, encourage you to take care of your teeth/alignment, and only fill cavities that truly need it vs drilling unnecessarily. I was referred to Dr. Tabar by a coworker and am very happy with my experience so far. The office is super clean and I felt comfortable even during COVID -- they were wiping down all pens, chairs, wearing PPE, filtering the air in each room and through the ventilation system, etc. Dr. Tabar is personable, caring, and honest. I have had past dentists who are "drill happy" and would find and fill many tiny cavities that didn't necessarily need it. Dr. Tabar is very conservative about fillings and I haven't needed one in the 2 years I've seen her. I am also grateful that she gently yet firmly pushed me to get orthodontics for some back teeth that were terribly misaligned. Now halfway through Invisalign and happy about it. read more

If your teeth are perfect and just need biyearly cleanings and the occasional filling, then Dr. Tabar will be enough. But if you need anything more such as root canals, she will immediately send you to an expensive specialist because she doesn't feel comfortable doing it. I didn't enjoy running around the city seeing different specialists for procedures an experience general dentist could do... at least my old general dentist was able to do them, perhaps I'm asking too much of Dr. Tabar. I do agree with other commenters that she does not treat her employees nicely. At my last appointment there, she snapped at her assistant in front of me. I have been going to Dr. Taybar for a couple of years. She is professional, thorough, and very pleasant! The staff is always professional and helpful. I was a little hesitant about returning when I changed insurance companies since Digital was only listed as a secondary, but Dr. Taybar was able to resolve the issue so I could continue to go there. One of my favorite reasons for returning is her ability to deep clean without causing pain, which hasn't been the case with past dentists. I am going to start by saying that I really dislike going to the dentist. Dr. Tabar makes it as pleasant as can be. She is very personable, is very upfront, gives great advice. I have been going there for years. She also works with a very great root canal specialist who is a nice as she is. I have visited this dentist three times. The first time was a pretty standard dentist visit - no complaints. The second time, during the cleaning, a metal pick fell off the device and got stuck in my mouth somewhere. I didn't feel it at first, but when I saw how small and POINTY the metal pick was, I realized I could have easily swallowed it. This was a huge red flag, and I should have made that my last visit. However, this place is convenient for me to get to and in my network, so I decided to try one more time. This last time, I was asked to wait before AND after my visit, extending what should have been a 30 minute cleaning to one hour. We started 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment, and after the cleaning session, I was asked again to wait for the dentist to come and talk to me. 15 minutes later, I had enough and decided to leave without speaking with the dentist. As I was leaving, I ran into the dentist, who curtly took my money with no attempt to seem apologetic or even courteous. If she had tried to be friendly or even given me a sincere apology, I would have felt so much better and would probably be okay with returning. It seems like other people generally have good experiences here, but I don't want to risk a third bad experience when I already dread going to the dentist. read more

I went to this dentist because she is in my network and the Yelp reviews seemed good (only one of them mentioned her yelling at a staff member which in hindsight should have told me all I needed to know). When she was doing the examination, she poked my gums with a sharp object. It hurt, so I yelped in pain. She said "I'm only barely touching them!" and carried on. It hurt another time, I went "ow", and she didn't stop and just said "That's because you don't floss!" Which is not true, I used to not floss but then started flossing weekly (which apparently is not enough but why be so mean about it?) After the appointment, my gums really hurt for days!! I'd never had gum pain before either. I wish I'd told her to stop the examination right when it hurt the second time instead of "braving it". It seems like this dentist has a bit of a temper problem (as also shown by the incident with the staff member). Many other reviewers seem to have gone in for routine procedures but beware when you need anything sensitive done. "Rough love" does not belong in dentistry, where you need to deal with sensitive things. Most people are afraid of going to the dentist - why make an already unpleasant thing even worse? I hope she considers working on her temper and learning how to deal with patients gently, so no one else would have to experience what I did. Also, she suggested I should have my wisdom teeth removed "just in case" because they're taking longer than average to emerge. Invasive surgery "just in case"? Seriously? Wisdom teeth extraction gone wrong can make you lose your sense of taste. It's not something to be taken lightly. (Although it seems people do surgery for all sorts of things these days, so maybe that's the new norm...) read more

I have been going to Digital Dental for three years now. My experiences have always been positive, with hygienists and Dr. Tabar.

It's been an interesting ride with DDP. Front desk and assistants are wonderful and have always helped when I called, emailed, asked for an extra toothbrush or floss. The actual dental needs and services are great but my rating of two stars stems from me coming in early for an appointment and seeing the Dentist yell at the building lobby attendant because she did not know protocol- it was her first day in the lobby. I would hope someone who is a doctor or anyone who have the eiq and flat out iq to ask questions to improve a situation rather than blame and target. (Ex. I've never seen you at the building before. Are you new? Most offices are closed but I operate a dental office and our hours are __________ so patients will be heading to _____ floor) I was literally a fly on the freaking wall. In a world where you can be anything- be nice. I went to my appointment like nothing happened and when I was leaving the office told the front desk this would be my last visit here. Dr. Tabar has been my dentist for three years, and I couldn't be happier. Every time I need to come in, her team attends to my teeth with care and a smile. The office is clean and modern. They have massage rollers in the dental chairs and televisions monitors hanging overhead. Imagine having your teeth whitened while watching a makeover unfold on Netflix's "Queer Eye." I've done it. It's wonderful. I appreciate that Dr. Tabar is honest with me about my dental needs. When I chipped a tooth last year and planned to have it filled, she told me flat out it wouldn't be worth the money. (The type of filling I required would pop out every six months or so, and was not covered by my dental insurance.) She could have made a lot more money on my mouth, but she had my best interests at the top of her mind. The only downside is that her office is usually running about 20 minutes behind on appointments. You can call ahead to see how the wait is. They screen all patients and use full PPE, plus work to minimize particles in the air by not using the spray water and mechanical toothbrush - which is a plus for me since it means less tickling and sensitivity for me. :) read more

I have moved around the Bay Area but I have not considered seeing other dentists because she is patient, caring and funny, and her staff is professional, never have problems processing insurance. Krysta at the front desk did me a solid by bugging my lazy insurance company to divulge what they actually cover for orthodontia and always friendly and helpful on the phone. The dental hygienists (there's a few) are gentle with implements and the feelings of a nervous dental patient which I greatly appreciate. Dr. Tabar is a sweetheart, very nice and very thorough. Digital Dental Practice is a professionally-run dental office, but I probably won't be going back. My first appointment was awkward. I was asked to come in half an hour early to get a head start on their paperwork. I thought 30 minutes was a bit excessive, (not to mention tricky for a midday appointment). I offered to print out the docs myself, but they explained that they have a computerized system. When I got there, I realized they why they wanted me in so early. Initializing new patients involves having them tediously punch in all their information on a desktop computer while the receptionist hovers and presses "next" after each page. I suddenly had a data-entry gig I never applied for. I guess this process is a time saver, but for whom? The facilities are respectable. Above the dental chair is a TV equipped with Netflix, which was handy since Dr Tabar was running late with an emergency appointment. When she finally arrived we had a pleasant chat, I had my X-rays taken, and I enjoyed a thorough cleaning. Then came the sales pitch. In my experience there are some dentists that clean your teeth, alert you to any medical issues you should be aware of, and send you on your way. Others look at that collection of pearly whites in your mouth like it's a motherlode. Whenever a dentist suggests I get braces, warning bells go off in my head. Dr Tabar even citied "hygienic value" to the procedure, but I wasn't really that interested. (Mostly because I'm not 12 years old, and few other dentists have ever suggested this treatment even when I asked.) She then instigated a discussion about wearing a night appliance. I don't suffer from jaw pain or tension headaches, but did have some evidence of grinding my teeth in the past. This convo stopped when we discovered my insurance didn't cover a night guard. It can be intimidating for a typical consumer to have to bat away an onslaught of up-sells. So while there is nothing wrong with the service I received, I'd prefer to visit a place that let's me know explicitly which procedures are vital to my oral health, versus those that would be nice-to-have were I anointed with bottomless benefits. Obligatory Title Pun: Why is finding a dentist like PULLING TEETH? Menu Readability: Their website is what sold me on this place. It's very well done. This is my first yelp review ever. I feel compelled to write one as I compare my experience with Dr.Tabar to all the glowing reviews here. This was my second time going in for a cleaning at digital dental. The first time was fairly standard so I decided to come back for my next visit. I could immediately tell that she was in a bad mood. During the cleaning I overheard her say something about one of her employees not following protocol and how that's completely unacceptable. As she was saying this to one of her assistants, she dug into my gum with her sharp tool. I immediately stopped her and asked if she could be more gentle. She said she'll try but she was still very rough for the rest of the cleaning. It was by far the worst dental appointment I've had my adult life. A few others have mentioned this and I wish I paid more attention to them but this lady seems to have unpredictability when it comes to managing her anger - not a helpful characteristic for someone that's about to stick sharp tools in your mouth. I'm not a fan of going to the dentist but after going to Digital Dental and having been fortunate enough to have Dr. Tabar work on my mouth, I am happy to say that I actually get excited about it. I've seen dentists from the South + East Bay but I must say that Dr. Tabar is beyond exceptional. She's VERY thorough, in that she explains every aspect of your dental X-Rays to you. She outlined all the work that I needed and laid out all the costs, making it very easy for me to evaluate. I had some work done by her (specifically 2 fillings as well as some work done after a root canal), and she really spends a lot of time to make sure everything is perfect. She also really cares to make sure you are at ease during the procedures. Her assistants are all also exceptionally friendly and smart. Not to mention her receptionist is awesome as well. read more

I called the office at 9:15 am today to reschedule an appointment that's at 9 am the day after and was told that I would be charged a fee for the rescheduling because it was less than 48 hours. The office only opens at 9 am so I couldn't call earlier this morning when I got the reminder at 8 am. This seems incredulous to me that they would not waive the fees for an old patient and who still called 2 days in advance but missed the deadline by 15 min. If I canceled the appointment a day before I still would have understood the fees and attitude but, this was just something else. I am not going back to these people. read more

I went to Dr Tabar 2 years ago to get a 2nd opinion. I found her to be a dentist that does take a lot of time to discuss your options with you and gives you plenty of attention. She also does good follow up emailing x-rays and work orders. I also got work on a tooth with her and found it to be painless with no problems after. Since I care a lot about my teeth, she even sent over photos of the work which was great. The x-rays I gave her for the 2nd opinion were a month old, and pretty bad. Since they were just a month old, I did not want to pay for new x-rays with Dr. Tabar. If I had, maybe her diagnosis would have been different. That said, after examining my mouth she did find a problem with 3 teeth that may need work, but she did say she would need new x-rays to really tell. That said, 2 years and 2 dentists later, the same 3 problems have not been found...It is hard to say if this is from the bad x-rays I had or not. Also, while Dr. Tabar does take a lot of time with you, I did feel slightly pressured to get the work done. This pressure could also be construed as legitimate concern. After all, you never know what will happen and dentists do have an obligation not to miss a problem, so they have to protect themselves. When choosing a dentist you can either go with ones that will try treat problems a bit early to prevent them from becoming big problems like root canals, or go with ones that will wait till it is really necessary to do work, but then you risk a big problem. Dr. Tabar is more of the 1st kind, and I generally prefer the really conservative "your teeth might remineralize" school of dentistry. In the end, Dr. Tabar is a dentist who really cares, will take time to talk to you, and is more on the treat early side of the spectrum...but I feel it is always good to get 2nd opinions, and that goes for any dentist! read more

Dr. Tabar is the real deal. She helped me through my (unfortunate) Dentageddon of 2017 where my filling broke and I needed a root canal and crown (amongst countless fillings, doh). When she was fitting my crown, she didn't like the crown they made from the mold of my tooth (it didn't fit well), so she sent it back to be remade. She has always answered me honestly and truthfully so I will continue to go back to her in the future. read more

Dr. Tabar is such a pro. Her staff is also amazing. I needed a new dentist after moving out to the Bay area earlier this year and found my way to Digital Dental based on the highly positive Yelp reviews. Finding a new dentist isn't easy. Especially finding one that you really like. Visiting the dentist is usually a very dreaded experience for most, myself included. But Dr. Tabar is really great and makes you feel relaxed. From her extreme professionalism, her funny stories and genuine care for her patients, I truly am thankful I ended up finding her. I had a lot of work needing to be done and in a short amount of time b/c my insurance was ending as I moved from one job to the next. She was so accommodating, even for me as a new patient. She squeezed me into any free time she had and even stayed way past office hours to work on my root canal. I should note that my favorite part is the fact that she has flat screens set up above your head so that you can watch anything you'd like on Netflix while getting the work done on your mouth. It really does help distract from what's going on.The office is extremely clean, lots of cutting edge technology and she always walks you through your x-rays in detail. I hadn't been to the dentist in about 3 years, so I knew it was long overdue, especially when my tooth chipped from a deep cavity that had formed. I was in a lot of pain and I couldn't eat solid foods, so it was important that I saw someone ASAP. I did some research and read some Yelp reviews and landed on Dr. Tabar. Her whole office was extremely helpful in getting me an appointment, and helping me begin my journey to resolving the issues going on in my mouth - TMJ, cavities. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly. No one was judgmental apropos of the condition I was in. Dr. Tabar told me the exact steps I'd need to take to resolve my issues. And within 3 days, the cavity causing me pain was completely taken care of! The atmosphere at the office is very relaxing which is important to me, due to the fact that I'm terrified of dental visits. I loved my childhood dentist. I went to him for 15+ years and within that time he managed to stay up-to-date with all the dental technology. I was sad to leave him and his wonderful practice when I moved to San Francisco. My first new dentist in SF was William R Smith (http://www.yelp.com/biz/william-r-smith-dds-cow-hollow-dental-center-san-francisco). He works with his daughter, Dr. Connelly. Both were very pleasant people, but I'm sad to say their practice is completely out-dated, which I found surprising given his daughter RECENTLY GRADUATED from UoP. I walked away from my bi-annual dental exam with a quick brush and floss, 20 minutes max-no gum measuring, fluoride treatment, anything else. Why else do we have dental insurance? I was worried that maybe all other dentists were actually like this, and it was only my childhood dentist who went above and beyond. I decided to give Dr. Tabar a chance because something just did not feel right about leaving my dental care in the hands of Dr. Smith and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! I filled out all of my "paperwork" completely on the computer with the guidance of her wonderful receptionist. I then took x-rays with her dental hygienist, who was just as sweet, all while watching Netflix on a screen in front of me. Dr. Tabar's exam was as thorough/gentle/amazing as it could be. Her technology even allowed her to take pictures and pull them up on the screen in front of me. She took the time to explain everything in detail, even a minor scrape on the roof of my mouth. Her wonderful collaboration with her hygienist made me feel confident I was putting my dental care in the right hands. In addition, Dr. Tabar's office almost feels like a spa with the updated decor, air-massage chairs and scented spa-towelette they give you after your visit to wipe off your face. NOT ONE THING will disappoint you about choosing Dr. Tabar as your dentist. I went there expecting only detailed cleaning, but was seriously blown-away by the exemplary service I received. She should run a side-business on teaching other dentists how to run their offices. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Tabar for about two years and have had nothing but positive experiences (it always helps getting a clean bill of health too ;))! Dr. Tabar's dental assistant, Marvella, is awesome as well - both women are very kind and easy to talk to and make the experience relaxed and pleasant. This office is very conveniently located in the FiDi and I have recommended several of my coworkers, given its proximity to our building and the excellent care I've been provided. To address the upselling comments in a couple reviews: Dr. Tabar suggested Invisalign to me in the past, and upon asking for an explanation as to why, it was not "cosmetic" but rather for health reasons, which she explained to me in detail using models and images. I have not bit the bullet yet as it is quite $$$ (but still on my radar!), but I definitely got the impression that Dr. Tabar was coming from a position of patient care first and foremost, rather than sales. This is a review out of the blue. Last time I saw her was at least 2 months ago. In general I have never liked dentists. Just never. Till I met Dr. Tabar. Dr. Tabar is super awesome! I have been with her for close to 2 years now. She earned my trust over the 4 bi-annual visits I have done with her. I have had fair amount of work done by her, and have seen great improvement in last 2 years that I have been with her. She has suggested me few things which some might consider as sales pitch, but I have never felt coerced to do anything I wasn't comfortable with. Indeed she was willing to wait if I didn't want to undergo a minor procedure unless I was sure that I needed it. She is through with her work and very professional overall. read more

The best dentist I've ever had! She really takes dentistry to a whole new level! Her appointments can fit any schedule and they are personalized. No waiting in long lines as she doesn't do the double booking or stuff her office full of people. No issues with insurance either. The music is serene, the chair has a little massage function, and the towels smell of lavender. I actually had to have a rubber stopper put in my mouth because I kept dozing off through one of the procedures...lol! Her office is eco-friendly and she uses digital x-rays. I can't imagine going to any other dentist. She's all about prevention and will help you keep a great smile. A friend of mine told me that her dentist saw a weak spot on her tooth and told her to come back when there was a cavity to fill. I had the same problem and got a Rx for super flouridated toothpaste to prevent a cavity from forming. (Cheaper and better solution) She's all about preserving your natural teeth as much as possible. I just started going to Digital Dental Practice, and I really enjoyed my first visit. The staff is very personable and they explained everything really clearly. I also was having issues with my dental insurance and they worked with me to make sure that everything was taken care of before the examination. read more
