I've been to the Goodwill bins tons of times and the majority of my clothing is from Goodwill or some type of thrift store. I've been in good and bad parts of cities in thrift shops - I've done it all. But when I walked into Dig & Save, I almost immediately walked out (and wished I had!). I see that others enjoy it here, but it did do anything to me compared to the Goodwill Bins. Small section of clothing, no purses or shoes (that I was able to find), and then a large area for hardwares. I've never seen a thrift store like this, but I've been able to get excellent finds here every time I go! They have massive bins full of clothing, bedding, fabric things. You are supposed to dig through it all and you can't really find sizes or specific gender groups from the outside of the bins. I go straight to the home section in the back half of the building. They always have picture frames, glassware, kitchen things and it's by the pound, so last week I got 7 picture frames for $2.30. One of them was unused, from Crate and Barrel in the package still. It's a great place for finding hard plastic or glass items you can wash thoroughly, since it is a picked over selection. Be careful of broken glass and ceramics when shopping. They also have a donation center at the building for dropping off in the back of the parking lot. read more

I really do Love dig and save but I would definitely show up with some gloves. You are bound to find something that you like in the bins you just have to be mentally prepared for the overwhelming amount of stuff they have there. Not for the faint of heart or someone who only shops Goodwill thrift stores. I live in Milwaukee, but will go to great lengths to make time to stop here whenever in Madison. There are some real treasures to be found in the messy heaps. The first section of the store is primarily clothes and cloth homeware (blankets, towels, etc.) I usually will do a few dig throughs here and there. If you plan to go through everything, expect a couple hours spent here at least. The back section of the store is the rest of the home goods, furniture and electronics. Careful of some areas and be cautious of where your hands are digging, there are often broken things scattered around the bins. The danger and mystery is half the fun right! Despite some debatably unsafe aspects, still expect many children to be wandering around. I recommend this place to avid thrifters, artists looking for cheap and random materials/objects, and people looking to try new experiences. The prices are SO cheap! One of my favorite places to thrift. Just make sure you bring some hand sanitizer (: (I'm pretty sure I've seen some people wearing rubber gloves.) read more

This is my go-to spot whenever I need some retail therapy! I can spend hours here, spend little money, and go home with some amazing finds! I particularly check out Dig & Save first when I am in need of new sports apparel: Badgers, Packers, Brewers, and even some other team finds! I can't even tell you how many times I have found NFL or MLB authorized gear that seems basically brand new, if not completely brand new with tags. Beyond sports apparel, I have found like-new winter coats, dresses, home decor, kitchenware, etc. This is also the perfect spot to go if you are starting out in a new apartment or house and may not have the budget to buy everything brand new. Seriously. Dig & Save is the place to be! You can tell because there is usually a line at the door when they first open. Oh. And always grab a cart if one is available. You may not think you need one when you walk in, but trust me, you'll eventually regret not snagging one upon arrival. read more

This is not a normal thrift store. Closest frame of reference is if you've ever been to a Goodwill Outlet. Clothes and housewares are all in giant bins, you dig through them, and purchase items by the pound. Electronics and furniture are all set prices (there are signs posted-- for example, all lamps $3). Nothing is guaranteed. My understanding is they sell the castaways from all the other thrift stores. Some stuff may be damaged, some of it just didnt sell. You can still find price tags from when they tried to sell it for more elsewhere. Dont be shy about getting your hands dirty. Literally. Some people wear gloves. It's not disgusting but there is a lot of "thrift store dust". There are often huge crowds and it's push or be pushed. Also, anything good sells QUICKLY so this is the kind of place you have to check several times a week if you want to find anything amazing. I do. read more

I think about 20% of my wardrobe has come from here. For $1/lbs of clothing I have done more than my fair share of digging. Seriously, you have to dig, and it's not fun..but I keep coming back because I find some of my very favorite pieces from here and it's so damn cheap! Be warned- there is no method to the madness. The large crates are not sorted in any way at all. There's children's clothes mixed with Halloween costumes and winter coats. There can also be weird smells emanating from the bins. I'm extra motivated to do laundry once I bring my bag of clothes home so I can try it all on- there's no fitting rooms there so it's always a guess whether something will fit. That being said, it's not much of a gamble when a pair of jeans will cost ~$1 and a tshirt ~25¢. This is hardcore thrifting-not for everyone- but it can be worth it if you put in the time and effort. You have to be willing to weave through some crowds and patiently sift through huge piles of clothes, glass, and sometimes junk to locate some good finds. I love thrift shopping, and this was the first time I've been one that's structured like Dig & Save. There are big bins all over filled with clothes or random items (toys, kitchenware, pictures frames, etc.). The items are not really separated or organized well. If they were, I'm sure that last 5 seconds as people dig through the bins, throwing items in other bins trying to find any hidden treasures. Yes it can be time consuming to find that leopard printed jacket, but the perk is it's CHEAP! When you pay at the register, you put all of your items on a scale and it's costs $1 a pound. I bought a suitcase which was $2, then everything else I bought (jacket, koozies, and a fanny pack) cost me $1.38. Woohoo! That fits my budget. I'd prefer to look through clothing on racks, but if I had time to waste, I would go here all the time....if I'm looking for something specific this would be my last stop as digging through those bins is time consuming. read more

Dig n Save is a perfect 5 if you go into with the following assumptions: - It won't be terribly clean or organized (Although the bathrooms are actually fine, so no need to fret there) - You need to visit there for a long time (over 2 hours) if you're planning on leaving with a good haul - Don't go into it looking for anything in particular - You're going to encounter both kooky items and kooky people while there. - You'll likely end up buying something that you can't really use (i.e I always end up buying clothes that're actually for women by mistake), but since everything is so cheap, it doesn't matter much. Remember all of that when you enter dig n save, and you'll leave with a heckuva experience and loads of cheap goods. Shopping here certainly won't be for everyone, but it's worth trying at least once. read more

Dig & Save is an experience unlike other thrift stores, so I feel it needs a special shout-out. When you first walk in, don't be alarmed. There are boxes everywhere. BIG boxes. Boxes as big as a Mini Cooper, only they're overflowing with clothes and linens and every now and then you'll see someone tipped over, bum in the air, digging through an unmarked box of goodies. It's fun! If you go past the clothing area, (you'll most likely be serenaded by some 80's pop on the overhead sound system), you'll enter the back room which is split up into a few parts. First, there's these crazy tables with stuff by the pound: old toys, kitchen ware, dishes, etc. An old man walked up to me as I checked out some vintage china. He pointed to the polo shirt he was wearing, and to my surprise he was wearing a "$.75" sticker. "That's not the price for the shirt," he says to me, "That's the price for me!" To his surprise, I smiled and replied, "Wow! That's a good deal!" I think we made each others' days. You see, these are the types of people you'll find here. Good, honest, bargain-hunting diggers. A really friendly assistant in the back (Charles?) offered to answer any questions as I perused the furniture and electronics selection. New donations were literally rolling right in the back door. All in all, I walked out of the Dig & Save with four decent lamps (they all worked when I tested them at the testing station) and two puzzles by the pound ($.77). My total was about $12 and I couldn't be happier. Can't wait to go digging again! read more

You must have ideas in mind as to what you are looking for, otherwise you will be adding to the clutter in your home for sure! Have an idea of people you'd buy for and sizing. I often buy for friends' children to keep their cost of the next size up at a minimum. I also do a lot of crafting and try and recycle the tshirts and different materials from the dig and save for my projects. Have a strategy, and be patient. Pick a bin to start with and go all the way to the bottom and then work down the line either right or left. You'll have a better chance at finding the gems that way. read more

Cheap. Dirt Cheap. And somewhat Dirty Cheap things. When I head over to the old Dig N Save on Park St., that's what I'm looking for. I tend to go there when I've got crafting or cosplaying ideas, but don't want to spend much money on them. Like Goodwill is being too expensive fancy, so I need really cheap Dig N Save goodies. Get a whole bunch of picture frames of varying sizes, doesn't matter the color, just that they still have the glass and a wooden frame. Take out the glass and paint all the frames a fun color or a several coordinating fun colors. Return the glass, add some pics, and you have a high end looking wall display. Frames are only 25-50 cents apiece here. That's such a bargain. I got a 2-pack of Ikea frames still in the packaging. Have a sewing project where you need random smaller bits of fabric? Go through the clothes bins and look for shirts/pants you can cut up for their fabric. I'm going to make a patchwork little bag (think the carry-all bag Hermione has in Deathly Hallows), and was able to get plenty of fabric for less than $2. Clothes are $1 per pound here. Glass vases for sharing flowers with your neighbors can be had for $0.50-1 and then you can tell them to keep the vase. If you are a cosplayer with a good imagination, this place is a treasure trove of resources on the cheap. If I were handy enough with the power sander I'd check out the wood furniture in the back more closely. The prices are cheaper than at the other St. Vinny's sites and Goodwill. You will literally have to dig through the bins of clothes though. No fancy hangers for things here. Just wear some clothes you don't mind getting dusty and get digging. read more

Take the name for what it is. The store is set up with giant plastic bins filled with stuff. They are organized by house wares and clothes but beyond that there is no more labeling. I didn't want to stay there very long but I was still able to find some great treasures. I got seven items for less than $5. Such a good deal!! They do have a lot of electronics, golf clubs and misc. furniture. If you have time to dig then definitely dig! I'm sad I didn't have more time but will have to return. They had a variety of sizes and styles. I read a previous review that said not to go in for anything in particular because there's just so much stuff. I took this into consideration but secretly hoped I would find some overalls and I did! They're just target brand and will need some patching but I bought another pair of jeans there to use the extra denim to fix them up! I'm super happy I found some bibs and I found a couple of cute dresses and a really cute bow belt. I read on their wall hat they help the local community by donating food and clothes and it was nice that the money goes back into the community rather than into a big corporation. Bring your creativity, your hand sanitizer and your change purse. They sell things by the pound here... Wednesday's clothes are .50 a pound instead of a dollar a pound. Pretty crazy crowd, the first time I ever went to dig and save it happened to be a Wednesday. I wasn't brave enough to join the ranks of professional clothing diggers so I went to the back room where the housewares, furniture and frames are it was just a crowded but a bit easier to navigate. I got a bag full of random stuff I didn't need for $2.00 it it was quite an adventure! read more

While not particularly clean or organized, it is a warehouse setup with giant boxes to dig for treasures on one end, with everything else on the other. Great for people on a budget or stylish folks who fancy clothes from the 80's and 90's. I often go for beddings and belts to be repurposed into other creations. Do NOT donate to these people. I was in the store today and workers were throwing out bins and bins of stuff. I asked them what they were doing and he said emptying bins in the store, throwing them in the dumpster, so they could bring new stuff in. This is such a waste. I take my mum here all of the time. Sometimes it gets REALLY busy and there are barely any carts and the line will be ridiculously long. But you're treasures are worth it!! I always tell everyone this is where the junkin' pros come! Some items are broken and probably shouldn't be on the floor. But they do what they can here and it's great. Parking can be hard to find as well. So you have to come here early on Wednesday's or later to find carts and parking. Also, you may want to bring your own bags as well to carry all of your treasures or even keep a tote in your trunk or something. They have a ton of furniture here and knick knacks and a TON of clothes. They have blankets, jackets, and snow pants here too. So if you're lucky you can save a few bucks on snow gear for your kids! Anyway, I do recommend coming here if you're trying to save money or just to find something unique. Just remember to have some patience and enjoy diggin! read more

This is for the true treasure hunter. The clothes are piled into boxes where one will literally have to dig through mounds of clothes. No pretty aisles or racks of clothes here. They have all sorts of kitchen gadgets, toys, electronics, bikes, furniture, and any other treasure you happen to pass by and suddenly think you must have. Never ending supplies of anything you might want. Donations are in the way back, you'll see busy staff hauling in more goods. You pay by the pound for most items. Furniture is dirt cheap. My best find would be an actual vintage Steamboat Springs CO pub shirt that I have actually frequented. I got it for like 25 cents! Who woulda thought, a tiny Colorado ski town bar shirt in little old dig & save. Nothing Tide and a good washing machine can't help! read more

I've seen other thrifters post about this place, so I decided to stop on my way to the Dells for Spring Break. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was quite busy...lots of stuff, probably 50 deep bins of clothing, linens, other soft goods; plus a back room full of hard goods. I'm always on the look out for good quality second-hand clothing, but this is definitely not the place! After about 1.5 hours, I found about 10 items, of which I MUST wash before I bring them in my house. It seems like this place is where they send all of the rejects for stains, tears, junk clothing...don't waste your time if you are looking for quality. I've been to Dig N Save a number of times. You never know what you're going to find, so don't go for anything that you need specifically. I was glad to see this most recent time I visited that they have new, smaller, squat plastic bins for the clothes, which makes it easier to really dig and see what's at the bottom of each bin. The linens/household items are separated- if you need blankets, this is a great place to look. They always have cheap bags and purses, too. It's really difficult to find any clothing for a specific size (unless you are kind of a middle of the road size 6-10- there is a ton of stuff for you)- you just kind of have to dig and look through. Many of the clothes are here because they couldn't be sold at the regular St. Vinny's stores, so watch out for stains and the like. Everything seems clean, though. I like to go here for material to repurpose, and sometimes find random gems in the back section. Good prices, not always the best quality, but always fun. However, beware- if you have allergies, this place might not be for you. Every time I dig through those bins of clothes, I wind up sneezing up a storm. Clothes are $1 a pound, everything else is slightly more. Furniture and electronics are priced to move. read more

Fantastic place! I always find something everytime I visit. I cannot say enough about it! However, there is a very rude asian...girl working the register. Mind you, I've never said or done anything rude or offensive to make her act the way she does. Maybe she secretly envies me?? Who knows but always has an attitude, always acts like she doesn't want to be at work. Has even made sly remarks toward me. One time she slammed my change down on the counter! Very cool place, except for that chics face and attitude while she stands there acting pathetic! Please review your employees dig n save! There's a bad apple in there! I RARELY write reviews for anything but I feel enough is enough. I may just contact the manager or someone higher up as well. All in all, great place, go see what treasures you might find!
