On Monday 9/28/26 at 8:35pm, I received news my fiancées mom has a poor prognosis for her cancer. I…read morecouldn't find the energy to cook, so I decided to go where the food is good, healthy and affordable. I drove to Urbane Cafe. My favorite is a Baja bowl and the young cashier asked me, for here or to go? I said for here. She said "I've already selected it to-go but can you eat it here?" I said, can it please be for here? She cancelled the transaction and reordered it, so I assumed she had corrected it to have my meal in peace at the restaurant. My food arrives in a paper plate, with a lid, and bread in an aluminum foil. I'm from Ventura, CA. Urbane Cafe is my comfort food. I've been going here for years and it shocked me to know that I couldn't have my meal in a proper plate. Promptly, I called Armando over, the manager, and I asked him, "is there a cut-off time where customers cannot eat for here?" He answered, "no there isn't. Do you want me to make it for here?" I shook my head and I replied, "I already told the cashier, and it seems like she still chose to make my food to go. That's not okay" He apologizes and walks away. I wanted to brush it off until the family next to me gets their food. It's served, again, with paper plates but this time with no lids. I couldn't help, but ask the family and they confirmed that they also asked to have their meal for here. So I immediately recognize, this is a management problem. I walk to Armando, introduce myself, shake his hand, and I confront him and ask "I thought you said there was no cut off time for people to have their meals here, why are you serving paper plates to the guests?" He answered, it's because we are closing and so that the dishwasher doesn't have dishes to wash. I asked "is this a new protocol?" And Armando, said no it's just for tonight. To the general manager: when someone is having a bad day, people go where they know there will be at peace. The peace comes from the safety of knowing what you will expect. Because of the laziness, lack of leadership and poor work ethic at this store, it breaks the trust of those who rely on the high standards that Urbane Cafe has worked so hard to uphold. Since my food was already made to go, I was not welcomed to stay so I left. Might as well have to gone to The Habit next door.

I had such a good experience at Ichiban Sando, my best friends were visiting and one of the places…read morethat they had seen online was Ichiban Sando. I loved that they had a pre-made sandos ready to grab and go, so we each grabbed our own boxes and a matcha. The box I had, included a shrimp sando, egg salad sando and a mango cream sando. I also ordered a large corn matcha, I am really into corn matchas. They also had, pork and chicken as an option for protein, an all fruit box and poke. They have hot food too, we'll definitely have to come back to try it. The shrimp sando was so good, super flavorful and whatever sauce they use I ended up using as a little dip for my egg sandwich. The fruit was really fresh, my mango still had a really good bite to it and it wasn't too sweet at all. My matcha, was delicious, I opted for the large because I was acting as tour guide. The matcha had good flavoring and the corn was not at all overpowering, perfect amount of sweetness. I will definitely be craving that matcha and whenever I'm in National city I'll definitely have to check them out. The service here was super friendly and the the restaurant was really inviting, would definitely recommend!

We really enjoyed their #1 Banh Mi sandwich, which was fresh, tasty, and surprisingly healthy, with such a satisfying crunch. The sandwich meat wasn't fatty at all, thank goodness. The sandwich was reasonably priced at around $8 with tax, and it was such a refreshing meal for my boyfriend & me to enjoy in the middle of the summer heat. Not only was our House Special sandwich prepared and served quickly; we originally thought that our House Sprcial Bánh Mi was going be served warm. We were very satisfied with trying their sandwiches for our very firs time! I also noticed that Banh Mi Paris Express also carried to-go drinks, chiken egg rolls and other ready-to-go foods, which makes it especially convenient for busy individuals and families who are always on the go! Forgot to take a photo of our sandwich! Make sure to give this place a try for lunch sometime soon, they typically close at 4pm. I also have to say that when I first walked into the location, I didn't really feel a warm or welcoming vibe. I was hoping to have a better first experience, but unfortunately, between the drink and the overall experience, I don't think I'll be back. Maybe I just need to try something different, but for now, this one just wasn't a hit for us.
