I do not recommend this office is Not aggressive enough to Win, and the judge in Riverside court has them by the balls. At their office, they don't have any kind of professionalism. I was really considering this place, but now I'm not. I spoke with the attorney on the phone who seemed like a nice guy, and told me the story about his mom's situation and why he became an attorney. He had asked me to leave a positive review for them (before I had even seen them) And I did because he seemed like a great guy and maybe is. The paralegals were willing to help the first few times I called months back, but I had mentioned that I had some concerns about my work comp getting dropped for having an attorney and since the insurance company seemed like they were cooperating - so I needed time because I did not want my employer to think I was trying to sue them because I really was not. They told me just call us when things get too difficult. The insurance has been dragging this out for 8 months, taking 4 months to even read my MRI that I handed them in person. Long story. My employer I've worked for over 12 years and had a excellent work history, basically said, ""we can't hold your position and that I would have to reapply" I called the Diefer Group back to see if they could keep me on the right path with the insurance documents and at this point was willing to sign on. But both staff members, Jenny, and Catherine had this attitude like, "you waited too long, if you had sighed up when we last talked..ect" and kind of sounded like "we can't really give you any info" - even though I was just asking general questions. I can't recall which of the two it was. I reminded the woman that "you guys told me that if I needed you to reach back." One of the woman, Jenny or Catherine.. Again, don't recall ended up hanging up on me and never called me back - even though she has just confirmed my phone number. Two different woman both did not sound very positive to me. This is the 3rd time I was told I would get a call back from someone. I called back and talked to another girl who said they would have the attorney reach out to me but that never happened. After talking to the attorney, I kind of thought, I've got a good law group here. But if I have to deal with paralegals that hang up on me and don't return calls, it's a no go. read more

BEWARE Before you call these people, I wouldn't. I was recently involved in mediation with a former employer. After discussing the case with several different attorneys and firms, I came across Diefer Law Group, P.C. I decided to give them a chance after dealing with so many other attorneys who seemed predatory or incompetent. Melissa Newman Avila seemed like she understood my situation and seemed confident about my case. She mentioned that she believed that I had a done a great job with my own legal research, as I sought to represent myself for a while. She also stated that she foresaw me settling for a very specific amount if I represented myself. She stated that if I hired her, she could probably get about double what I could on my own, but I'd essentially be "breaking even" due to attorney's fees. I explained to her that if that was the case, I'd be more than willing to hire her as I had grown exhausted of dealing with this on my own. I tried to negotiate the mediation fee, but was shut down completely, and it was only until after we settled that I understood why this may have been the case. Once we reached mediation it seemed to me that Melissa was chasing a conclusion as early as possible. The opposing counsel who was representing my former employer was Guillermo A. Escobedo with Jackson Lewis P.C. In our mediation, Melissa was out postured, out negotiated, and quite frankly completely outclassed in my opinion. She seemed to lack a vital understanding of our position, which I was constantly reminding her of before, during, and after mediation. On the day of mediation, we did not reach an agreement. My former employer gave a final offer which was lower than the amount Melissa told me she thought I could get if I represented myself and was nowhere near our last offer (which was MUCH lower that my bottom line and what Melissa told me she thought she could get.) The mediator allowed my former employer a few days to reconsider their position, and following the weekend after the mediation, they made a SIGNIFICANT leap in the amount they were offering for us to settle but still didn't meet us at our last requested amount. All this because in my opinion, Mrs. Newman Avila was incompetent in negotiating and was outclassed by opposing counsel. The entire time, Melissa was almost urging me to settle, as she was taking 40% of my settlement amount (which seems to me why she wouldn't allow me to negotiate the percentage, since she planned to not reach the numbers she had quoted me from the beginning), despite me having already done all of the legal research to support my case and her asking me to find things during mediation, that she should have been looking up and had ready before we even began negotiations. At the end of the day she was the textbook representation of how lawyers are portrayed in media to me, self-interested, arrogant, and disingenuous. It seems to me she took advantage of my case for an easy payday all while reassuring me that she was "looking out for my best interest," preying on the fact that I was struggling with my loss of income to urge me to settle as quickly as possible. My experience with Diefer Law Group, P.C. was so bad, that I'm recommending the opposing counsel. They actually seemed to look out for their client's best interest and my former employer got away with a slap on the wrist for turning my whole life upside down and what I believe were violations of federal law. Melissa even had the audacity to tell me that she drafted "the most claimant friendly settlement agreement she had ever written" as if I wasn't going to read it. It seemed to ONLY protect the interests of my former employer, but this was all in line with the way Melissa chose to "represent" me. I chose to settle out of a feeling of desperation to close this chapter of my life and a feeling of utter defeat. At the end of the day, if you have been a victim of injustice in ANY way, please don't subject yourself to even more humiliation. I understand the process of seeking legal representation is difficult, but don't do what I did and just settle for an attorney. I suggest you look elsewhere, starting with Jackson Lewis. After not hearing from Diefer Law Group after a year, I should've left. After the second year, my case was still stuck. I would call, leave messages & emails without response. After the third year, I reached out to my claims adjuster for help but was told I could only try reaching out to my lawyer again. Finally Abel reached out. A few months passed & I was still trying to get help, Abel said to give him a few more days to work on the case. As promised, a few days passed & Ted called. I trusted Ted like I did Abel. So when he told me he believes I should settle for what Diefer Law Group demanded, I accepted. Ted told me one fee, but put another fee three times from what he originally said. I emailed Abel to see what could be done, I was told Ted would never make a mistake about their fees. We're all human & mistakes do happen, but I was treated like I was a liar. Working with Diefer Law Group has been a bad experience from beginning to end. They weren't helpful & treated me like I was bugging them. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Honestly a waste of six months of my life . They are non responsive to emails, very unprofessional. Jumped through every hoop they requested, terrible communication through out and now they just don't respond to emails . No explanation, no response , ghosted , very unprofessional in my opinion. I had a very complex and unfair work injury and was severely exploited by an employer. Due to the time wasted by Diefer they basically got away with continuing to manipulate and expose future employees to serious injury or death. I needed more than someone to file a workers compensation claim which they never even followed through with . I finally received my settlement. I dont know if I could have got it without them but Im glad its over. They are not truthful, they tell you anything on the phone to get you off the phone. One representative says one thing, the other tells you something entirely different. When they're not telling you lies, they're not telling you anything. They are awful at communicating with clients. They sayd the Insurance company told them that I was getting a check in around 30 days. They never take 30 days is what they tell me. I ask them about this particular thing frequently. When will I recieve my monies? Why is it taking so long? They tell me they'll get back with me, Then on the 30th day the insurance company direct deposits my monies.
