trucks parked in front of a donut shop

Wow is this place popular in the morning! I stopped in for donuts for the office and waited in a long line, extending out onto the sidewalk out front. It's also a very slow line - took about 20 mins to get to place my order. The staff is friendly and obviously, the donuts are fresh. They smelled and looked great, but being on a diet, I didn't eat any. I did get a cup of coffee and that was really basic (tasted like grocery store coffee).

Time to rise and shine donut friends! Dickson donuts will absolutely make your 30-minute trek from downtown Nashville before you hit one of the pawesome state parks around here worth it. You won't find any maple bacon CBD infused Portland inspired mayhem here. But you will find fresh from the kitchen donuts. Old fashioned donuts are always my favorite and this is a place to get them. Folks were pretty excited about their donut holes, in the chocolate frosted glazed donut I got was amazing. It's not dripping sugary or super greasy...yum. This is a long-standing Asian family owned and operated independent business. I'm gathering they've been there for at least a decade (if not longer and being able to carve out a business in rural Tennessee is no joke). They also have my hands down favorite bacon egg and cheese croissant that will make you demand every penny you ever spent some dunkin' donuts drive-thru getting a fast food sandwich. The croissants are not even aiming to French standards. Their palm-sized and taste like sweet Asian pastry made a baby with a croissant. I would have taken pictures of the display cases but there's near nothing in them when I got there today at 10:30 a.m. Oh, did I mention that they open at 4:00 in the morning and close really early? They keep turning out basic glazed donuts and donut holes until they close at one or two in the afternoon. if you're still on the fence about whether it's worth heading here, know that you can get a half a dozen donuts and two croissant sandwiches for under $10. Good luck doing that downtown! PROTIP You can make a pretty nice day for yourself by hitting Montgomery Bell State Park or the Burns wildlife area after you grab some yummy carbs from Dickson donuts. Normally I'd have something to say about staff and patronage abiding by covet protections, but this is well outside Davidson county and there are no mask mandates. The staff has solid plexiglass protection, masks worn appropriately and gloves. The patrons wander around like they can't die from COVID fast enough with only half of them wearing masks. It's a little surreal.

Store hours

I posted a picture of the hours. I showed up at 12:45 because the hours listed on Yelp are all wrong. Thought I was about to bring back some high quality goodness back to the nest, now I have to go to Dunkin'. This has sent me into a deep dark spiral of depression.

Best donuts. Great choices and good customer service. Never disappointed. They have incredible croissant breakfast sandwiches.

Just try to eat there once. It can't be done. It's like crack with a hole in it. Service is good and coffee mediocre. But man, those donuts.

Fresh Donuts

With an impressive 4.77 rating across all user-driven platforms online (108 total votes and…read morecounting), you would imagine Fresh Donuts would live up to the hype. On paper - actually on an Excel spreadsheet I created - those scores rank them as the third best donuts in Middle Tennessee! Having now eaten at the entire top 25 donut spots, I can provide my impartial review. I found this tiny, unassuming shop in a strip mall with no sign. Unlabeled with a lackluster, no-frills interior, you'll find the secret store adjacent to a Fantastic Sam's southwest of downtown Columbia. In the first few bites, I realized that the donuts at Fresh Donuts were shockingly mediocre for such lofty ratings. But you must consider that a Columbia 4.77 isn't a Nashville 4.77. In a smaller town with fewer bakery options, ratings are always going to be skewed higher. That's true throughout the country. To pull off a 4.77 in Nashville is nearly impossible unless you have a really special product that distinguishes itself among some serious competition! So you must temper your expectations in a town of fewer than 50,000. The maple frosted donut here, my favorite donut flavor, wasn't bad. But it struck me as average and unremarkable. The cinnamon twist wasn't as light and airy as some of the exemplary versions you'll find in Nashville, and the cinnamon was nearly undetectable. While the donuts were fresh even in the late afternoon with a dwindling supply, which is impressive and lives up to the name Fresh Donuts, I wouldn't make this a destination for Nashvillians who are thinking of driving an hour down to Columbia. If you happen to be in Columbia, yes, this is a good stop for donuts. But don't make a road trip out of it just to sample what are allegedly the third-best donuts in the region. They simply aren't what the ratings imply, and I made the trip so you wouldn't have to.

Vefy friendly and great donuts. I think someone was malicious marking it as closed. Good price…read moreand stays busy

The shop is cutesy with pink walls and a little social media worthy photo op on one of the walls. Lines are hit or miss. I either walk by and nobody is there or it's a long line. I can't say service at this location has ever been noteworthy. It's more just moving people through the line. They offer mini and regular sized donuts. I love, love, love that they offer mini donuts. I've never been a big fan of their donuts, but the winter donuts may have changed my mind. My favorites have been Sugar Cookie and Gingerbread Latte. I enjoyed the buttery, flaky layers. I also grabbed an iced sugar cookie and that was delicious. For drinks they offer coffees and a case with sparkling waters, juice, and canned coffee. Five Daughters is worth a try if you find yourself near a location.
