Went in on an unusual slow Sunday afternoon. Needed to buy basketball footwear. My husband and I were looking for an elliptical for the new place and since they were out of the one we wanted at the location in Warwick (after waiting 10+ minutes for anyone to even assist us), we were directed to this location as they had it in stock and the people at the Warwick store were nice enough to call ahead and have one set aside for us. It was another 20 minutes north of us (so about 45 minutes from Newport) and was already feeling a bit frustrated but the service at this location changed my mood for the better. The young man helping us out (I think his name was Peter) was very courteous and understood our frustration after dealing with the Warwick store and was a smooth transaction from start to finish and made sure he had all of our info down correctly and confirmed the delivery date and time window for the delivery. We had a bit of a hiccup with the delivery of our elliptical two days later as Dick's hires a 3rd party company for the delivery and assembly. But the store manager we spoke with (Greg) was in constant contact with us and the delivery service people after we made the initial call after the promised delivery time had passed and no one showed up. He was even keeping tabs on us even after he was done with his shift and was already home but luckily the delivery team showed up about 5 minutes after he called and we appreciated it greatly. I've never been in this store before but I needed a new pair of exercise sneakers , and after looking at their site online I was curious because I saw some great deals , I wanted to check it out for myself and be able to try sneakers on. Walking in the store is pretty big and very very beautiful looking. Very neat and organized. I didn't do any looking around because I was on a tight schedule and just needed sneakers. So I find the sneaker department , and was confused the sneakers on the racks didn't have prices , so I had to look for someone to give me a price which took 5 minutes , but while waiting I found another pair I liked on the wall I told the guy my size and he had to look on the floor for them not in the back I was confused , but he found them got a nice pair of Nikes for 49.99. Now time for me to get out of here and pay. I get to the register and the cashier was very nice , we signed up for the card and I wanted a price on something I found by the register that said 75% off , so he couldn't tell me the price because he had to have a manager do it I guess not his fault , the manager or supervisor was only a foot away and huffed and puffed her whole way over , could see in her face we bothered her. The cashier apologized for her, he was great forgot to get his name he was on register 3 around 4-5pm. I took 1 star away because of the prices it being listed and having to ask someone and for the service with whoever that lady was with the attitude. Went here this morning to get a pair of boots and was happy to avoid after Christmas madness. The store opens at 7am which is so nice because it was dead at that time. The store had a decent selection left considering the holidays but was still picked over. The employees completely ignore you and don't ask if you need help...but that's fine because I didn't need it anyway. Would still be nice to be greeted while giving them business. Stay away from this establishment!!! The customer service is lacking to say the least. They also falsely advertise. This week they advertised they would be open at 6:00am if the Patriots won the Super Bowl. They were open at 6:00, however after taking the championship hats for themselves, the staff left a total of 10 hats for the line of folks waiting out in the cold. The T Shirts were NOT official NFL product either. It looked like they were made in someone's basement. Didn't even have the team logo. It's pretty shitty when we stood out in the cold, and the workers are taking products for themselves right in front of us before the doors opened. First, I want to say up front that this review is only about this location and staff. Second, the outside agencies Dick's sub-contracts to and their other branches have not been as good as this one in my honest opinion. I came here looking to buy a BowFlex M3 Trainer which runs $1000. The fitness representative was able to help me get all the details I needed and talked to my about the equipment with significant knowledge that was the final information I needed before buying the gear. Since I live on a second floor with no elevator, I wanted to make sure I had it delivered and assembled with my wife receiving while I was at work. The delivery was free, assembly was a charge, and I ended up getting a 1 year warranty just in case. Delivery date comes, and we are awaiting in the 1pm-4pm window for the machine. At 1550, my wife and I call Dick's asking where they are. The worker puts the manager Greg online and he immediately takes our phone number and contact info and tells us he will hunt it down since it is a 3rd party that does the installs. 10 minutes later, we got a call back, apparently the delivery company was running late, their receptionist failed to notify anyone of the delays for deliveries. 15 minutes later the receptionist and manager at the 3rd party call me to apologize with an updated ETA of 4-7pm. Greg calls me back, to make sure everything is good, tells me to swing by to knock $50 off my purchase when I am in the area, and my wife and I aren't super happy but happy with his level of personal service. Honestly, waiting an extra 3 hours kind of sucks but the personal level of dedication of the store itself was nice. At 1845, Greg calls us back to make sure the delivery guys got there (they had not yet), and told us he is at home and that the other store manager was standing by to help on the evening shift. He asked us to call if they had not arrived by 7 pm. At 1850, the installers arrived and installed the M3 trainer and I was set. It was a little longer day then I hoped, wish the 3rd party team contacted people about delays, but this venue had amazing customer service and I am thankful for their help. read more

Wow, it has been a while and how far down hill they have gone. First, the price. Same product that you can find at Wal-Mart, Target to Sears but at twice the price. Nothing unique. You would think focusing on 'sporting goods' they would have a cost edge, but it does not show up at the register. Service was poor. No one and I mean no one would stop to help or offer assistance. Store is 90 minutes away from me, but I found a bike online which are hard to come by right now. Received an email that it was ready for pickup. Drove the 90 minutes and received a phone call as I am literally pulling into the parking lot. They won't release the bike without it being assembled, which would be "maybe a week". I can't pick it up un-assembled, store policy. No apology given, not even a hint of empathy that I've made a 3 hour round trip and would have to do so again. My wife called the store as I was driving home, and the store manager gave her attitude even worse than I got. I went in to your Smithfield location today to look at muzzleloaders. Went to the back of the store to the rifle counter. When your sales associate went over and asked me if I needed help I said yes I would like to look at muzzleloaders. He then looked at me and said well when you need something let me know and walked away. What kind of people are you employing there. so ive been looking at fishing kayaks for about a year. a year ago, the guy in the fishing department was very helpful and knowledgeable. he told me a lot of useful information about what they had in stock, but at the time i wasnt ready to get anything fast forward a year, i'm looking again. i know what kayak i want, accessories, etc. i dont know if the other guy quit but the new guy, JOSH, IS HORRIBLE. before i made my purchase i asked JOSH if he had put kayaks on roof racks before. the store sold roof rack mounts. JOSH said, yea sure. i said, so you can help me put it on my car and set it up. JOSH said, yea sure. we go out to my car, JOSH pulls out the instructions, stares at them for ten minutes, and then looks at me with a blank stare. we try fitting the holder on my roof rack. JOSH scratches up my roof for ten minutes until i finally say stop. i say, JOSH you said youve done this before. he says, oh well ive seen it done before. turns out this idiot JOSH didnt know the first thing about transporting kayaks safely. i didnt have cross bars on my rack, and he was forcing the kayak holders on my car's side rack bars which is both IMPOSSIBLE AND UNSAFE. returned a week later, with all the right equipment, and bought the kayak. oh yea, and that idiot JOSH tried to help again. i dont think he understands basic instructions like: wait while i load this oar and floating vest in my car. this idiot JOSH drags out my new paid for kayak and drops it on the concrete sidewalk outside the store. says, have a nice day, and walks inside. thanks for the scratches.
