I was there today, I needed inserts for my plantar fasciitis, a guy sent me to the basketball aisle, the lady there sent me back to the shoe area, I bought a pair , they have a very limited selection, nothing for fasciitis, just for comfort, I bough a pair, took it home and it one of them was broken, I took it back, went to get another one, still no other options, I said to the guy I bought this one and it was broken, I grabbed a new box, opened it and there it was, another one broken, he said I've never seen that before, he asked me if I wanted to order it on line but I decided that if 2 of them are broken they must be of poor quality, he said, yeah, you can go to ... this other store and get pair, so I did. Funny thing, he put the broken inserts inside the box and hung it back on the display. Ugh, really? I told him not to put it back, so I took it back to the front where I had left my original and the receipt, i got my money back and went to the other store to get the inserts, better quality and very similar price. read more

twice now, I have been told I could not purchase some shirts because technically they had not been released yet to sell? WTH? why put them on racks if you can not buy them? Honestly, the more I come here, the less impressed I am with the place. There is NEVER enough staff here to answer questions and even if you do manage to find someone, they are likely not familiar with the items that I am looking for. I always enjoy going into the mom and pop stores that know what they are selling and not the big stores where there are just far too many items for anyone to be that good. I do go in there to check out the cool items that I will then purchase from Amazon or from another online retailer where I can be satisfied with the lower prices. If I am going to pay prices that they are asking, then I want a great customer service experience first! read more

I when to Dick's when I was looking for a new pair of cleats for the next season of soccer. Some times finding the right fit for soccer cleats can be difficult but they had a great selection and they were well stocked. The staff was attentive and quickly helped me to find a good looking pair of cleats in my size. The prices were also very good and I was able to get a good deal on a high-quality pair of soccer cleats. The experience was well worth the drive up to Kalamazoo. read more

Not sure what all the negative reviews are all about. This is a nice sports store, well laid out with a good selection of items. The staff is always helpful and relatively knowledgable. For this visit I was Christmas shopping and the crowds at all of the stores wee unbearable. Dicks did a good job of moving is through and servicing everyone. I had been trying to get tennis court shoes in town and was struggling finding some in my size. I had gone to both locations of a sports equipment store who had failed miserably in helping me, both with their merchandise and customer service. Then I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and was helped right away. The nice guy in the shoe department who helped me not only gave me options, but offered that I could take advantage of a free 2-day shipping option they had at that time so I could get the color I liked the most that wasn't in stock. He called me by my name a couple times and was efficient and friendly in his service. I wish I had gotten his name, but this was on Friday, 12/28/18, at around 6:30pm. He had light brown hair. I hope his manager sees this and let's him know he's doing a great job! read more

Literally the worse experience I've ever had ANYWHERE! The cashier, Megan, was extremely rude and the manager Joanna was equally rude and did NOTHING to deescalate the situation. The shoes I selected were tagged(there's an insert in the shoe similar to a shoe form, that has a tag on it) at $59.99. After several minutes standing around watching associates walk right past me(I'm 6'2" 280 athletic build btw) to help other people that arrived AFTER me... A nice young lady came and scanned the shoe and got it from the back. She grabbed the wrong shoe. She went back and got the right one and I went to checkout. This is where I met Megan. Her attitude was VERY dry and dismissive which was very different than the previous customers I watched her help while I stood in line. She told me the price was $120+ and I explained that the tag in the shoe said 59.99. She told me, "yea, well I'm not changing it to that price FOR YOU." So I asked what was the purpose of having PRICE tags if they weren't going to honor that listed price. She then went on to escalate the situation by saying, "Well how do I know who changed the price... It could've been anybody." I said that doesn't matter to a consumer... But i got the feeling she was insinuating that I changed the price. Cool, go look at the camera Anyway, she called a young man to the counter and sent him to go check the price, I decided to go with him so that he wouldn't lie and say he didn't see it for that price. When we got back to the display wall he grabbed the shoe and the shoe form had been taken out by the young lady who had helped me previously. He looked at me and said hey there's no shoe form so how did you get $59.99 when there's no shoe form in the shoe with a tag on it. Before I could open my mouth to reply the young lady handed him the shoe form with the tag on it that said 59.99 and she said, "this was in the shoe I just took it out to check something." Not really satisfied with the answer that she gave him the young man reluctantly went back to the counter to tell Megan that I was indeed correct that it was marked for $59.99. Megan still refuse to alter the price to match the tag that was in the shoe that had been verified by an employee and witnessed by another. Megan then called Joanna, the manager on shift. She was immediately combative and did absolutely nothing to diffuse the situation. Instead she decided to argue with me and speak to me as if I was an idiot. I then went on to explain that as a consumer, i expect to pay the listed price on a product. I wasn't trying to scam anybody I just wanted to pay the price that was on the damn shoe that's all. Then she made a big deal about the price difference in the shoes in her explanation of why she wouldn't do it FOR ME. Megan and Joanna were mumbling about being FLAGGED for altering prices AGAIN. Joanna told me i could go grab another shoe that was within my price range. I told her I didn't have a price range I just wanted to pay the marked price! I don't like being antagonized when I go into a store. More arguing insued and Megan decided to be offended because I was swearing while talking, but not actually directing any of those words towards anyone. Example, "man this is crazy... I just want to buy some damn shoes and I'm being met with such an attitude. It's not my fault someone put the wrong tag in the damn shoes I just want to buy them and go about my business" Megan continued to play victim and act like I was verbally attacking her. I wasn't actually talking to her at this point, as Joanna was trying to explain retail policy to me. I said fuck it and just asked someone to ring me up so i can fucking leave. Megan continued to run her mouth and rang me up. I called customer care in front of them both and gave their names. All this for a pair of shoes. The issue I had was their attitude towards helping me. Everyone, with the exception of the young lady that got the shoes out of the back, made me feel like I did something wrong when I just wanted to buy the shoes. I know that treatment isn't the norm because I watched all the other customers receive excellent service... Even receiving help BEFORE me. I think Joanna and Megan should work somewhere else away from the public... So they don't destroy the image of a company any longer. read more

This location is 1.5 hours away each direction - so if I come here it's a 3 hour trip just traveling. But, this location is worth it. The Norton Shores and Holland locations are not worthy. I had a problem I needed help with and the other two locations, the managers would not help. Even told them this location was willing but it's so far away anything they could do would be great. They both said no but the Norton Shores manager was a real dink with with response and attitude. The PORTAGE location, Jim and Chase were awesome. They really know how to handle a situation and make it great. Chase did all the finalizing and wheeling and dealing and he deserves qudos and a raise! Customer service is hard to come by nowadays and he was top notch and knows how to keep a customer. He was even willing to waive shipping charges and everything! This locations gets TEN STARS for service. read more

Terrible customer service! I visited Dick's Sporting Goods in Portage, Michigan, to return/exchange a pair of UltraBoost Adidas shoes purchased May 3rd, 2019 which the sole is separating from the shoe base. Original cost: 179.99. After speaking with the manager, Joanna, I was informed that after 60 days I am responsible of contact Adidas myself to resolve the issue of damaged merchandise. Joanna explained "it's not our fault". Dick's Sporting Goods should stand behind the brands they sell and NOT make the customer contact the brand to resolve a quality issue. In today's world with the ease of online shopping, a physical store should do everything possible to keep a customer returning. I am extremely disappointed in the customer service, I would think retaining a customer would be Dick's number one priority. I have a family of 5 athletes and will not be returning. read more

I was excited when I found out we were getting a Dick's Sporting Goods here! They have a large selection, and it's a nice store. However, we went around Christmas time for a gift. Upon finding a defect in the North Face jacket we purchased, we called Dick's after Christmas and inquired about an exchange. I was transferred between 3 different employees, each giving me a different story. I only called to find out if they had another jacket in stock in the size we needed, so we could exchange the defective one. He put me on hold to check, and another employee got on the phone to say they don't exchange in the store, and I'd have to send it to North Face. After I complained about that, I was transferred to another employee, who then said I could bring it in for an exchange, as an exception. Gee thanks. $200 for a jacket that is defective, and you're going to make an exception just this once. Ridiculous. For the record, that's the last time I've been there. I don't plan on going back. I'll go to Gander Mountain. read more

I recently purchased a baseball bat for little league for my son. Before purchasing the bat I asked an employee that was working in the baseball section if the bat was little league approved and he said yes and they the store removed all bats that were no longer approved. At the checkout I asked to see a manager to verify this and he also said it was approved. My son loved the bat perfect size and weight so I took off plastic wrap. At little league evaluation the head of league said it was not approved so I went back and dicks said sorry and it can't be returned if plastic is removed. I explained everything and again "sorry " and told me I had to discuss that with the manufacturer. read more

Same experience as most people here with customer service. Was looking at bicycles to buy for our family and absolutely no one was around. We searched for someone and they were putting shirts away and said they'd come over in a couple minutes and never showed up. 1 star because it looks organized but I don't recommend going here unless you know exactly what you need and do not require any assistance read more

Large sporting goods store, however prices are high in comparison to other local stores of the same. Staff members in the departments have that "dont bother me" disposition on visit today. Front end staff was pretty friendly. Need to look for the sales or your going to be paying too much. read more

I went into this Dick's Sporting Goods store to shop for my Dad's birthday present. I was leisurely walking around the store looking for something he might like, when I had an employee come up to me. I didn't think a lot about his approach until he walked into my personal space and aggressively asked if I was finding everything okay. I proceeded to tell him yes, and I thanked him for asking. However, he continued to stand in my personal space and stare at me as I shopped. I stopped and looked back at him and proceeded to tell him that I was shopping for my Dad. He looked at me up and down and remarked, "Oh, yeah?". I was very upset at this point because he made me feel as though he was indirectly accusing me of shoplifting. I stopped shopping and he pushed a button on his headset and said, "Thanks Chris" and walked away. I did not appreciate the way I was treated at all. I am an extremely honest person and would never consider shoplifting and to have someone treat me like this was very inappropriate. I was extremely upset for being treated this way and will not go back to this Dick's Sporting Goods store. No customer should ever be treated in this manor. read more
