I know it's Dicks sporting goods but I guess I got pretty bewildered since during my visit to the store yesterday. I am writing this since I have had a similar experience three times now. I stopped by to look at shoes and bikes on a Friday night at 6pm. Now let me start by saying I am not a fan of getting swarmed by store associates when i walk through a store. But I literally walked in the front door walked all the way around the entire stores parameter for get to the shoes department and was never approached or welcomed. Okay I won't worry about that to much...But.... i got to the shoe department and looked around for a good 5 minutes and no store associates to be found. I actually found some shoes... I was interested .... I wanted to try them on and after looking around for an associate I just gave up after a few minutes of looking. I saw someone go to the back room...never came back out. I'm a touchy shopper... I need to try shoes on ... touch them ... feel the weight and all that good stuff. My expectations and needs are why I go to a store instead of buy from Zappos... but when no one is to be found that's crazy. On top of this my some was checking out a bike for my son with him.... he was actually riding bikes in the store. No one came by to ask if we needed help. We Actually found a bike which was decent but no one was to be found. The odd thing about the bikes is the selection was very poor. More than 70% of the bikes are brands I have never heard of. We probably spent 10 to 15 minutes checking ... no one to be found. Here is the worst part... we were in the store probably 35+ minutes. Walked the entire floor... putted on the putting green as well just to see what would happen. Not one associate asked if we needed help. Between the shoes ($115 ASICS) and the Bike ($300) your store lost a potential $415 sale... just trying to help you out. We bought $6 worth of co2 cartridges during our visit. As for any of you looking to shop here.... I would go elsewhere. Disappointing experience. Management needs to focus on customer experience.... it was 1 out of 10 for us. read more

Overall a nice sporting goods store. Dicks has a pretty nice assortment of common sporting goods. This location is a great go-to place for common sporting equipment. For bow hunters as well as target archers, I would recommend going to a real archery pro-shop. (The closest one is in Richmond) read more

Overall a terrible shopping experience. Customer service is non existent. I tried to purchase a shirt from a rack that had a "SALE" sign above it. Come to find out it was the old bait and switch. The shirt I grabbed off the rack was not the shirt on sale. After disputing the misleading sign and the rack of shirts below it at the check out I was FINALLY given the discount. I paid a price for it though. Phrases like "If it makes him happy" and "We will do it this time but....." at a 6 foot voice so other customers could hear were shouted out. Like I was the a-hole and it was my fault they have misleading signage and merchandise. Their hockey selection is non existent was well. Surprising considering all the bandwagon hockey fans and "players" after the Hawks won the cup. If you're looking for knock off jerseys and poor customer service and a terrible selection of sporting goods on everything in between then have at it. read more

All of the below reviews on the terrible customer service at Dick's in McHenry, Illinois are spot on. I was there Friday, November 27 around 10:30 am, day after Thanksgiving when you might think this dump would be making an effort to stay alive during Covid, but an employee in the Sporting section couldn't have been more rude and non-helpful. He grew more and more annoyed with each question I asked on a $300 purchase of boxing equipment. I appeared ready to purchase it anyway, a two piece set that would require at least two people and a large cart to haul to the front, and as I stood there giving the equipment a final look over he simply disappeared to the back. When he reappeared he looked at me standing by the massive equipment, obviously waiting for him to assist, and he ignored me and went about some other business of doing nothing behind his counter. I was the only customer in the section. I told him what I though of his rudeness, and he just got defensive. I suppose Dick's hires dicks, and it is clear that this pathetic place will become one more box store to go the way of the dinosaurs, and it will be well deserved. read more

I came into this store today around 4pm to look for bikes for my two children. We were greeted by the sales associate in the bike department with " You are supposed to have face masks on." I replied with i have a medical condition and was not able to wear one. No problem the gentleman immediately started helping us asking what we were looking for and even got a bike down for my daughter to sit on and she liked it very much. He was exactly what you would want from an associate. Then the manager came up and asked " Do you have face masks?", I of course replied with "No." and before i could say another word He says " Then you guys have to leave." He did not ask if there was a medical reason i did not have one just simply you have to leave. I was floored and to top it off while we were walking away he tells the sales associate to "Make sure you wipe down that bike right away." while my daughter could still hear him speaking it truly sounded as if though he was calling my daughter dirty. I worked in retail for 10 years from cart boy to manager and i have never been so appalled by an associate let alone a manager. This man clearly did not want to sell me bikes. I understand these are crazy times, but where is the customer service ?What other ways can you help me? Can i find this same selection online? absolutely nothing. I will not be shopping at any dicks locations again. read more

This isn't just this location, it's all locations. The selection is very poor, prices are inconsistent. This particular location, the employees - depending on when you go - are sub par. Trying to exchange or return something takes more effort than it's worth. Take your business elsewhere. The prices will likely be better, the selection will likely be better, and it will likely be hassle-free. Over the past two days, I've been to three Dick's (isn't this name ridiculous??) because someone insisted on it. They had a terrible selection and I bought one pair of sneakers for my daughter (they needed to be specific brand/style) in the wrong size since they didn't have the right size. I needed them as a gift, asap so I figured she could return them. I went to two other stores trying to find the right size in this or any other style that looked better than this one. The first store told me the older model of the show was full price while the newer model was on sale. I left. Time wasted. Then I went to this store and while they did have the right size, I was told I owed money because of tax. I didn't bring money into the store since I was doing an even exchange (I've not had this issue before!) and actually, the last I checked, the taxes at the first store were higher than this store. Again, I left. I have the sneakers to give her but with the explanation that we'll be returning them and purchasing the right size, better price, and more flattering colours somewhere else. Dick's Sporting Goods, your stores are pathetic. Over the past 5 years of being dissatisfied every time I come in, I should know better than to even consider browsing the store. I went into the store today because I've been wanting a pair of gym shoes for a while and been putting it off. I received an email this morning from Amazon having a 1-Day sale of the exact shoe I've been eying that has been available at Dick's. I took the email (on my phone), and went to the store and asked the cashier right away if they would honor the discount Amazon was giving. She said that she didn't think they did so I asked if she would be so kind to double check with the manager (I'd like to help out a store in my area if I can). Mystery manager (who never came out from his hiding place), just radioed back to the cashier that they wouldn't honor the price. That's too bad. When I came home, I called another store and asked them if this was true and was told that it is company policy that they do not honor Amazon discounts but will honor other stores with barcode-scannable coupons. That's a shame. The store itself was clean and I was surprised they had as many people as they did in there at 10am on a Sunday but I'm not judging. I'll give them one more shot before I either make the trip out to the Algonquin store where I've had a bit better luck, or just buy it somewhere else altogether. I wanted to give the store a 2-star but since it's company policy to not honor Amazon prices, I marked it a 3-star. read more

We were told we would be getting 10 dollars off of we signed up with their card. After we did the purchase and looked at the receipt we saw the 10 dollars was not taken off. So we went back and spoke to manager Justin. We told Justin we were told we would be getting 10 dollars off and Justin started getting defensive saying the card only gives you 10 dollars off after receiving a certain amount of points. Great, but that's not what we were told. Justin processed the adjustment and gave us the 10 dollars but was extremely rude the entire time and throwing/slamming things. Very unprofessional. He should not be a manager if he can't deal with customer's issues calmly. read more

I don't know what it is about this place ....I had encounters with exactly 2 people, one associate I asked the about the price and she got snotty with me. Then at the checkout, I asked what you register do you want me on Sheehan say anything but pointed to where she wanted me to go . I purchased something online and needed to exchange it for a larger size. This store didn't have it in stock and the person at the check out wouldn't ship it to me at the original sale price--even though two other people in the store had said they could. I would have had to come back another time and get the difference that way. I should have asked for the manager at that point--or she should have just called the manager. We ended up going to another Dick's and they were completely helpful. They ordered the item for me, they honored the sale price, and they were very polite. I will go to Algonquin Commons store from now on. read more

I have been holding off on a review for this place, but it deserves a one star rating. On a couple of occasions I was treated very rudely by an associate. I'm not even going to waste my time and explain the situation. On top of that, there is not much of a selection of anything and floor personnel would just stare at me, instead of asking if I needed help or any assistance. I will never be back. read more

Went in to buy some gym clothes wanted to try on the clothes but the dressing room was locked and have to press a button to have someone come open it. Been here before and never seen a changing room locked and need assistance to open. Doesn't seem like there's ever people wanting to try on clothes that they need to make it this way. read more

Awesome store. Bob the manager was super helpful with our order and helped us out the whole time. Also the other employees were very helpful and welcoming. I have gone to this store a few time with my husband, and everytime we go the staff is always overfriendly, to say the least. They are only interested in flirting with the customers. My husband was buying some shoes and I walked up mid conversation to hear a young girl comemention on how buff my husbands arms are and If he can teach her to shoot a matthews bow. Then upon seeing me, his wife, She started acting rude towards me. Totally unprofessional in my opinion. They also have a very messy store, probably becasue the staff is too busy trying to pick up shoppers. I would never go back. read more

I went to buy new clubs for my son and a driver for myself. We both also needed golf shoes and gym shoes. I was returning a $9 head band from July that my son never used for football. The number one manager was rude from the start. He even told me that it had been over a year since I purchased the product. He was looking at the receipt and knew he was wrong. Just rude. I had no problem with not returning it. Even a store credit would have been nice but store policy is fine with me. It's only $9, but he was rude and now I won't go back. There are too many other places to go to. I will miss the convienance though. Won't go back. read more

I waited a day to cool off before writing this review. Still can only give one star! Selected two kayaking floatation vests that were advertised 50% off, and a dozen other items. The vests rang up full price. The cashier used her headset to contact another employee to get input, but it only got more confused, so my wife went to check the sign. The other employee was quickly trying to remove the sign when my wife arrived. My wife walked up to her but before she could say a word, the employee immediately told her we would get them at the sale price. Eventually, a manager came to the checkout to try to explain why we actually would not be getting the sale price! Unbelievable! We left everything on the counter and walked out. We were actually planning to stop back after dinner to buy a kayak, but scuttled that plan. So the manager saved the store $60 but in the end lost $600, as well as our future business. It has left a bad taste for doing future business in ANY Dick's Sporting Goods. read more
