I think for most of us the comparison is Dick's versus Amazon, and I don't think Bezos and Jassy need any more of my money. But Dick's doesn't make this easy. This is a big clean and shiny store that you can't help wandering through even if you only came in for something specific. It's designed and laid out this way, which is a little annoying. Also annoying is that the workers are athletic, fit, young people who concentrated in limited areas and are hard to chase down if you're an overweight middle aged man. The sizes aren't organized in a way that I can intuitively deduce where mine are, and comparable items are not together by function. For example, head sweatbands are in at least two different places, sunglasses are in at least two different places (and prices aren't obvious on all), the result is I have to ask a 19 year old, "are these the cheapest sunglasses you sell?" and "where would I find the larger size sweatbands?" And to ask these questions I have to venture relatively far from where the items I'm looking for are found. The young people can't help be athletic and fit, and they are wearing Dick's sporting goods and looking good in them, but this makes the place a little uninviting to me. In the end, what matters most is that I had to check and I found I could have saved a couple of bucks ordering from Amazon; saved myself 20 minutes and $6. And maybe Bezos does need more of my money for another space yacht, he does seem to have trouble paying all his taxes. read more

I usually like to see what I am purchasing or try it on which is why I opt to go to a brick and mortar. When you walk into Dick's you want to like it. It is big and modern looking with good signage and massive pictures to help you. Dick's has a little of most everything related to sports but not everything. Selection is good but not every size is in stock. I understand the cost implications of carrying big inventory but sometimes it's frustrating. Service is just okay. Mostly younger people, teens or twenty something and they are just there to get a paycheck. If you have a serious question, I haven't been able to get that answered, but again this is a big box and not a specialty sports store. I come here for my younger kids who are just getting into that particular sport or for clothes here and there. I've purchased shoes, clothes, baseball training equipment, chairs and Yeti. Club sports I go to KM or Burghardt's. Occasionally I will go to Dunham's where you can find things a bit cheaper but style or inventory is older. And Dunham's still carries firearms if that is what you are looking for. I will continue to shop here but there are options. read more

Meh. Dick's is a giant sporting goods store right behind Portillos so you can eat 10,000 calories there and then go buy stuff to work it all off. I needed a bike helmet and stopped here to try to find one. The cycling area had several employees working in it but none bothered to acknowledge me or offer any help at all. Selection wise, I wasn't super impressed - they had helmets but 75% were for kids. Maybe 3-4 to pick from for ladies or at least that's what I was able to find. Shoe department customer service is terrible. Went in there to buy cleats and couldn't get any help even after talking to 3 separate clerks. Ended up purchasing from Amazon instead. It's bad when you can't even get someone to bring out 1 pair of shoes for your son to try on. They had the size, had the shoe but they literally never brought out the shoe we asked for. I will offer a very brief review as my experience at Dicks in Brookfield was an arduous undertaking. I was told by a manager I should order a size they didn't stock, at the front counter. Alex was the cashier, he was polite but in order to process the price match, he had to rescan my three items FOUR times. I spent over forty minutes to purchase a few clothing items. After all this time he couldn't complete my order and gave me a 1-800 to call to resolve the issue that he couldn't understand. I left without buying anything after speaking to a manager. Dicks is a wonderful store. They have all that I need. All though they have what I need it sometimes is expensive. Just this morning I was looking for Ice Skates and they were expensive. The staff is really helpful and they are willing to help which is awesome. Definitely try Dicks for Sporting goods. read more

On March 11, 2018 my husband and I looked for an orange hunting vest at Cabela's. They did not have 1. We went to Dick's next. My husband found exactly what he wanted quickly. It was cheaper than it would have been at Cabela's and exactly what my husband wanted. We will go back to Dick's. read more

They don't seem to have very experienced help on the floor in the athletic footwear department. I got decent help with baseball gloves for my Son. They steamed a new glove for a good fit and ball curvature. Not much expertise in fishing or camping. Since they have stopped all firearms sales at my local store, there is little reason to visit. They are more of a last choice than a first choice for me anymore. read more

I went in to the store looking for male figure skates for my 12 year old son, and I had to ask someone to help. He asked over his headset if he anyone knew if they carried them and very rudely said no MALE figure skates and then chuckled. He then looked at me and said we only have hockey skates for men, the figure skates are for women. He didn't offer to help us order them, but managed to embarrass my son and make me pretty angry. It's not 1950 and I think it's really unprofessional to act that way, especially about something a 12 year old kid is looking for. read more

I went to Dicks to try and find some new shoes. After looking at their poor selection for a while I wanted to try on some shoes. Of course the person who organized this selection probably is color blind and dyslexic because the shoes were in a completely random number order and the shoes styles were also in random places. After a good 30 minutes of trying to find a few pairs I liked, I left because it was like a puzzle trying to find shoes. Also no Dicks staff came by and asked if I needed help finding anything. 10/10 would not recommend going to dicks to find shoes for it was a frustrating and horrid experience trying to find shoes in their mosh pit of crap. read more
