This place will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. When we finally checked out, we were informed that the chocolate was buy a pound , get a pound of chocolates that day. My daughter had already spent about half an out picking out individual chocolates, but went back and got another pound. At $40/lb, I wouldn't have bought the first pound, but she's an adult, and bought as a special treat for her spouse. I spent about $5 for a little self serve bag of colorfully foil wrapped chocolate shells. Worth the visit! This candy store is a dream come true. The options are endless and the people are friendly. Our 3 kids had a magical vacation candy experience but we adults left with a really uneasy feeling after we were charged $104 for some candy. It is absolutely our fault we should have been paying attention to prices but we didn't buy much and quickly spent $104. The owner admitted he "categorized" our 18 year old nephew and his 18 year old African American friend when he kicked them out of the store for "touching things he shouldn't". The store is bright, colorful, decorated in way that invites kids, teens, adults. So when our nephew touched an arrow on a colorful spinning wheel - below which is a sign that reads to spin to play - he thought it was ok. Rather than tell him not to touch it, he kicked them out of the store. Our nephew was there to spend money, something our large family has done for over 18 years there. And this place is extremely over priced. But we've always gone back. We were in the store with our nephew not 30 seconds before this happened. He saw us together, knew he was with family. When my sister and brother-in-law went back to the store to talk with the owner, he said he doesn't want trouble, he's had trouble before, and he "categorized" the boys so he kicked them out. HORRIBLE PLACE TO GO!! The owner actually physically slapped my 18 yr old daughters hand because she picked up a lollipop!! Sounds crazy right?? Well one of the employees at this place (who I can only assume is the owner) takes what would be an average candy shop to the level of a nostalgic, delicious, indulgent piece of heaven. There's a huge selection of candy from your childhood as well as taffy, and truffles of every kind. They also have ice cream and fudge. The employee who went out of her way to welcome us, offer a free piece of taffy of our choice then went on to tempt us with jelly doughnut fudge. I tried to resist, but one longing glance from my husband and we both gave in. The piece of sea salt caramel I sampled was phenomenal. No fake caramel flavor here, just the grit of the sea salt and hint of sweetness. The owner was very nice and did me a favor so I figured I would just add to the hundreds of reviews already on here but was surprised to see so few, but excellent reviews. This place is so great especially the one on the hill. I have been coming here for years getting my fudge fix. The store is clean, the people are friendly and the feeling is Willy Wonkerish being in there. After cleaning my condo each week I take a walk on the pier, get a slice of Bill's Pizza, a cup of Pier fries and take a walk up the hill to finish it off with some fudge and a few other goodies. The cool decorations and theming brought me into their store to look around and possible buy some candy. Upon entering, I was greeted by a really nice old woman who was making some candy behind the counter, she even offered us fudge samples. After looking around for a few minutes, the bald guy that works there stood directly in front of us and didn't say anything (awkward). After greeting him he rudely accuses my friend of sampling candy which he was not, he was chewing gum. Upon showing him the gum in his mouth, the rude bald man gave us a dirty look, did not even apologize, and walked away. The best candy/ice cream store I have ever seen. There are free samples of 3 types of popcorn and many times samples of taffy or fudge or ice cream. Lots of "heritage" candy that people remember from their childhood (Pixie Stix and Goobers and gummy worms) along with high-quality local chocolates. The place is festively decorated and the staff are always very friendly. The guy that runs the place is usually there making sure that everything is clean and running well. They expanded their ice cream into a new room this year. It's Shains of Maine, which is excellent ice cream. It's a must-see in OOB! (They also have a smaller store down near the pier that I haven't visited.) read more
