Amazing service and the bakers are delicious! I added chicken to mine. The General Manager was friendly and a hard worker. Always a plus.

We loved the tostadas and sausage links! David even came by to check on us, and we told him we were visiting from SoCal and that Hurtado's came highly recommended. It definitely did not disappoint! Everything was delicious, and the hospitality made the experience even better. We seriously wish we had a Hurtado bbq back home in SoCal! We will definitely be back the next time we're in Texas. Highly recommend!

I've been hearing about Hurtado on 105.3 The Fan for a while, and although radio ads don't usually…read moreinfluence me, they made this barbecue sound so good that I wanted to try it. Then I accidentally parked in the wrong spot while going to get my nails done, looked up, and saw Hurtado. Clearly, lunch was meant to happen! I ordered the three-meat plate with brisket, ribs, and poblano sausage, plus bacon ranch potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and tater tot casserole. I'll admit, I wondered whether all the extras in the sides might be doing too much. Well, after bringing everything home and digging in, I can say it absolutely worked. The ribs were tender and delicious, with great barbecue flavor. The poblano sausage was amazing! I've had jalapeño cheddar sausage before, but this was something different and so good. The brisket had a wonderful smoky flavor, although it wasn't quite as tender as I expected on my first serving. It had cooled down some by the time I got home, and when I reheated it for round two, it was much more tender. Next time, I'll ask whether I can get a leaner cut, just as a personal preference. Now, the sides deserve their own moment. The bacon ranch potato salad had a finely mashed texture, with delicious bacon and green onions on top. Chef's kiss! The macaroni and cheese had spiral pasta, a little jalapeño heat, and such a creamy, delicious sauce. I've never had any quite like it. The tater tot casserole was another winner. It reminded me a little of Cracker Barrel's hash brown casserole, but with a smoky, bacon-like flavor and a much finer potato texture. My first thought was, "Is this cauliflower?" It wasn't--it was just a different texture than I expected, and oh my goodness, it was good. Even the bread had that sweet, Hawaiian-style taste that I love. I'm picky about barbecue sauce, so I wasn't sure what to expect there either. This one was sweet with a hint of Tex mex flavor and a little something different in the seasoning that worked so well with the barbecue. I loved it. The portions were generous, especially the sides, and my takeout container was full of meat and two slices of bread. Service was quick, too. My food came out about five minutes after I sat down, and they offered me water while I waited. I went in hoping the food would live up to everything I'd heard, and it was even better than I imagined. Everything had its own flavor, and it all came together so well. Now I'm thinking about that meal and already looking forward to going back!

Food (4.9) Service (4.4) Ambiance (4.0)…read more Let me start by saying I'm not a big meat eater and this is mostly rustic outdoor seating. But when in Dallas you can't admit to not eating lots of meat, or risk getting beat up. So when the "guys" go for barbecue, you eat meat, lots of it!! Last time I had the brisket platter which comes with a few homemade sides. The sides (potato salad, Cole slaw, etc) were great and the brisket was a killer. Literally... It was delicious but clearly a vein clogger so the logical part of me said once a month. But I told the locals "I could live on this stuff ". (For a shorter life mind you...) Kidding aside, they do an amazing job of supplying very tender and lean meats. Perfectly cooked, with incredible moisture and flavor. This time I had the Roasted Turkey Sandwich ($19.95 with side and drink) which was again delicious yet avoided the food hangover you might experience from the brisket or rib meals. If you want to try authentic BBQ, this is the spot. Cafeteria style service, you order inside where they have 2 registers and a few helpers who move incredibly quickly. Only a few seats inside so most sit outside on park benches with a roll of paper towels which better be needed, otherwise you're not eating like a Texan! Not the best place for a first date imo. Unless she grew up on a ranch, in which case she might tell you where to go. You are sure to not go home hungry! My pseudo-sissy metabolism returns to normal in approximately 24 hours. :-) Keep up the good work! (Burp)

We bought two sloppy juans and some hominy. The taco was a mix of what seemed to be yesterday's meat. Chopped brisket, pork, and sausage simmered in some BBQ sauce. It didn't really hit me as a good bite. With everything stewed together it all kinda tasted homogeneous and a black peppery. The hominy was canned and seemed like their take on a mac and cheese. This was far from a mac and cheese and seemed a little lacking in character and quality. Overall it was enjoyable, but it requires further study before I can rank it as a texas bbq place.

When we got there, I asked about the special and was told it was for the day before. We were so disappointed that we almost decided to try them another day, when the special deal returned. I am SO glad we didn't leave! The staff were very friendly and answered our questions about various menu items. After we were served, they checked on us to see how we liked the food. They really seemed to care. The place has a dark, pool hall feel to it with several pool tables scattered around the dining area. We were there on a weekday around lunch time, so no one was playing pool. It wasn't your typical BBQ place atmosphere, but everyone seemed friendly, like at a neighborhood restaurant where many people know each other. We had their brisket burger and it was NOT just ground brisket. It had sliced brisket on top of that. It is normally served with mayo, but Bon hates mayo with a passion, so we asked them to hold the mayo. For the side, we selected the French fries which are fried in beef tallow. The burger was delicious and BIG! We split one between the two of us. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and tasted great. Add on a couple cold draft Shiners and you have a great tasting and satisfying meal. We are DEFINITELY going back to try other items on the menu (like the "green spaghetti?!?"). Unlike the advice from another reviewer, don't give up on the other BBQ places. Texans need to support ALL the great ones, Like 225º BBQ. Add them to your list and enjoy great Texas barbecue at all of them!

Rudy's has renewed my faith in a good bbq restaurant!!! The employees were all so nice and knowledgeable about everything on the menu, which is rare with that age group (20-30). First time trying Brown's BBQ, and guess I came away thinking super nice folks (thinking at least…read moresome in establishment were family), good (could be great) sides, and still on the learning curve on the brisket. With a bit more seasoning and flavor, the sides could be the hit of the location, and this I think will come with time and practice. Tried the greens (little bland, but wonderful texture), Mac and Cheese (actually seasoning was spot on), and beans (with meat...meh). The greens and MC were the hits for sure. Brisket was on the dry side, maybe overcooked, and could have used some better trimming before cooking I think. Did not try sausages or chicken, but both looked appetizing. They are still dialing in their pits is my guess, and expect cook quality to improve with a time. Quality of meat may also be worth considering. Overal, Brown's is definitely worth a visit, and as they find their groove they could be a contender. Right now would put them at a fair 3.5 stars, but the energy, great attitude (smiles means repeat business), and great beginnings is worthy of 4 stars even now, and a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
