Stopped in Here last week " just" to grab a pair of compression socks for my 16 year old son. I ended up with a pair of Brooks ( oops)! I have to say my experience dealing with Mitch was the Best customer service I have received on a long time. Mitch is super informative, nice, professional and passionate about helping others. I asked for a massage therapist referral and he introduced me to the Thera Gun. Although I did not buy it on this visit ( New Year's resolution = spend less) I will definitely be back to treat the family in the near future. Do urself a favor and go see Mitch for all ur running needs! read more

We were sent out to Dick Pond by our son's track and field coaches for jumping and sprinting shoes. It was well worth the drive for the exceptional level of customer service and top shoe recommendations from Rob, the assistant manager. Not only did he ask all the right questions to figure out which shoes would enhance my son's jumps, but also offered tips and guidance as well. We are very satisfied customers and will be back! read more

Super cool place for runners. Great quality gear and friendly staff. They have lots of group outings too!

I'm not even going to waste time, I'm am walking out of the store and what awesome service. I have no idea what I'm doing running and I had nothing but help from the associate Mitch. Of course I have a big fat foot and He answered all of my dumb questions and didn't even make me feel dumb. I can't wait to put on my new pair of shoes and go for a run. Thanks for spending the extra time. Thank you read more

I brought my 12-year-old grandson to Dick Pond's to get some shoes for his first cross country season. Neither one of us knew what style or brand of shoe to look for. No worries though, the staff analyzed his gait, measured his foot, suggested several different brand options and made sure his final choice was the best fit. Mitch was especially patient in making sure we got the best fit. Thank you, guys, I will be sure to return when my shoes need replacing. read more

Love the wings and atmosphere!!!! Can't wait to go again. I highly recommend hooters.

Let's face it... I'm not a runner. The only type of "running" I do is the beer run or pizza run. That was until I started applying to be a local 5-0 and saw there's a 1.5 mile run. For the past four months I have been training for that on a pair of crappy shoes from Kohl's. Unfortunately I really didn't understand the importance of good running shoes until I came home every night with my knees, ankles and heels hurting. A friend suggested Dick Pond and off I went. I came in on a busy Thursday. I was asked to take off my shoes and walk. Tom, the sales associate, could immediately see I had a flat foot. He then measured my shoe size to 11 wide. There was only one shoe style in their store but if I was willing to come back on Saturday, he would get a couple more from their other stores. So I agreed and came back Saturday. Unfortunately my Godzilla sized shoes only yielded two other pairs. No problems though, I don't need to make more decisions. I was able to take the shoes on a test run on the treadmill and Tom made sure that they fit comfortably on my feet before I left the store. I've been running on the new shoes now and there had been no foot problems or achy joints. Amazing what proper footwear can do. I appreciated the customer service in the store. It wasn't about selling the most expensive pair but rather the shoes that fit the best. Even though I was a newbie to running, I was treated with the same courtesy as those who have been in the sport for years. Thank you Dick Pond, I will be back when the time comes to purchase another pair of running shoes. read more

The service at this place rocks! Being a somewhat avid runner I like to visit as many running stores as I can. I dropped in here today to take a look around and meet the staff. Rob was awesome. He fitted my feet, then he did a full gait analysis. He also analyzed my old running shoes to see what kind of wear I had on them. I just moved here from Denver (the athletic capital of the world) and most stores there don't offer this much service! After analyzing my running, he brought out several different pairs of shoes to try. I tried on at least 3 different pairs and he had me run on the store treadmill in each pair. Again, a remarkable amount of patience. He had a ton of knowledge about the product, and I ended up getting a new pair of kicks to start training for the Chicago Marathon in. I really can't say enough about this place- just a wonderful customer service experience through and through. I'm really surprised to read the horror stories from other Yelpers- go in and ask for Rob- he's awesome. read more

Wayne, one of the owners, read my original review and took a proactive approach to customer retention. He made my situation right, and for that I am very appreciative. Additionally, the store now sports all of the hi-tech shoe fitting apparatus necessary to eliminate the guess work associated with properly fitting a running shoe. During my most recent visit, I was impressed with the selection of apparel, accessories, and of course shoes. Finally, the folks here are very connected to the local running community read more

I have never had a good experience here for some reason. Maybe it is the elitist attitude I seem to receive seem I am not an avid runner, not more than a treadmiller at best. The shoes are pricey, I prefer to get the same on Eastbay for a lot less without the hassle. If you are a runner though, I bet this store is great. I date an IHSA X Country runner who swore by this store and that is how I began shopping here, about 10 years ago, haven't bought anything in here for atleast 8 years though. read more

Mary J.'s review of the Carol Stream store (http://www.yelp.com/biz/RPFCZkF6QSWKu3rhyz1hZQ?hrid=XxKU8sXzfW3k3AUKMjZbQw ) parallels my experience here. I shopped on a Saturday afternoon with my son; there were several staff (4?) on hand. They were friendly and their clear goal was to find us exactly what we wanted and needed. There was no pressure whatever and we were repeatedly invited to take the shoes outside for a spin. This is a smallish strip mall store, but there was plenty to choose from. I had been going to big chain stores because I didn't know any better. No more. They also carry a variety of related gear such as clothing, watches, toting gear, etc. read more

Great, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff and I love that they supply Hoka shoes!

Great sales staff that have put in many personal miles. They are the experts in Illinois. read more

I stopped at the Carol Stream location last week to get a new pair of walking/running shoes. Sam helped me find an excellent pair of shoes that have made my feet so happy! He was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. He observed my walk to ensure I would have the correct type of shoes for my feet. Even though the store is about an hour from my home, I know that I will be going back for my future walking/running shoe needs. To top it all off, I just received a hand written thank you card from Sam. You truly can't get better than that! read more

Great service and friendly, knowledgeable staff. We've bought nearly a dozen pairs of shoes here and will keep coming back!

After my failed attempt of getting the right shoes elsewhere, I went to Dick Pond to try to get a better idea on what shoes are right for me. I've never been in the store, but I have seen their truck out at a meet and they had some awesome deals out of the truck. The store itself is actually pretty big and has a lot more stuff than I thought it would. The employees were friendly and personable asking about future races and what not. They watched me walk to get ideas on gait and pronation. They brought out a few pairs of shoes and let me try them out on the side walk outside (cannot tell you how much of a difference this makes to jog on the sidewalk with them rather than trying to run through a small store with them or even on a treadmill). They did not have my potential wide size in stock, but said they would have it by the next day, which is crazy fast. No high pressure sales pitch and they were super cool about getting it in the next day and holding it for me to try and compare to the regular width. Great shoe store! Bonus, if you are willing to buy previous models, you can get really good prices. The current years shoes are a little pricey, but that is how it is anywhere, but I typically stick with a model if I like it. read more

Having been a runner for omg ya we will not say how long... Ya that many years you come to know dick pond Athletics. Weather it is when they bring the truck to meets or going to one of there many great stores. What really makes Dick Ponds stand out is they actually have a passion for the sport of running. They hold weekly fun runs at no cost and there staff is all runners that know what they are selling. They even let you take a pair of shoes on a test run really quick to make sure they meet your needs. I can't think of any other store I would ever buy my running shoes at then here. I high recommendation for anyone at any level to check out for anything running. read more

I've shopped here for my running shoes for years. 41 marathons.....3 ironmen. And too many small local races to count. I have never bought running shoes anywhere else. I have priced them at different stores and Dick Ponds is the lowest priced and the highest quality. I just bought my Brooks Adrenaline today. I tell everyone who is a novice runner or a professional athlete where to shop. Right here. read more

I have never bought a running shoe that's specific to my gait, so I decided it was time I got some help. A friend at work recommended Dick Pond and I couldn't have had a better experience. Dave was great - he video taped my run and picked out five shoes to try on and then run outside. I thought I had a neutral gait but it turns out I have pronation. I narrowed it down to two, and Dave said "put one on each foot and walk around. If you can't tell the difference buy the cheaper one." I paid $10 more than Zappos on a $140 shoe, and it was worth every penny. read more

I went to Dick Pond's in Lisle last year and bought a new pair of Saucony's which the clerk recommended. Within the first week the whole back tread came off the shoe. The I went in today to buy new shoes and I even pretty much knew the shoes I wanted to buy. I ran Cross Country and Track in High School and College so I am not new to the game. Anyways, they had a bunch of people in the store trying on Newman shoes and filling out papers for a free shoe drawing. I stood in the shoe section with my arms crossed waiting for help and just got stared at. I waited 10 minutes and left the store NEVER to return. Order My Brooks shoes online. I know what size I wear and the price was the same. read more

Had an awesome visit on Labor Day to get shoes for my son who's starting cross country this year. Tara was super helpful and very patient. Wonderful customer service and love the new store layout! read more

Went to Dick Pond on the recommendation of my High School track coach, and I'm glad I asked him for his input before I did! I wish I remembered the name of the gentleman that helped me, but he was very helpful, friendly, and brought out several different pairs of shoes to try on after he had me on the treadmill. Definately will be getting my service in the future! read more

I needed a good pair of running shoes and read the reviews and decided to go for it. I went to the store in Crest Hill. Very professional, sized my foot and told me I needed a stability shoe. I must have tried on 6 pairs of shoes and could run outside with them on. The salesperson was very informative. I would recommend this store to anyone looking to purchase running shoes. They are expensive shoes, they are not running shoes you get at Kohls or whatever. BUT the shoes are cheaper at Dick Ponds than at Zappos online. The benefit is trying on all the shoes. Mine fit like a glove !! read more

Not a huge fan of Dick Pond. Very pretentious staff that did not help me much at all. I kind of wandered around the store for ten minutes waiting to be helped. I also tried running with their group on a Tuesday night, and they were generally not friendly at all and very cliquey. No one introduced themselves. read more

Why go to a store where the sales people are mostly high school aged with very little running shoe knowledge? Also, they have a poor return policy. I have learned my lesson and will now only order online where return policies are better, pricing is better, and the overall experience is better. If you are a parent of a cross-country team member thinking you will get good advice from the staff here, think again. read more

I brought my son in for his wrestling shoes for the third year in a row. It's funny how teenager's feet grow! I actually stopped in first (by myself) and picked out a pair to bring home and I was encouraged by the salesperson to bring my son in. Sure enough, the shoes didn't fit and we ended up driving back the next day together. The sales person was very helpful in finding the right fit for my son's shoes and didn't push the higher priced shoes on us. It was all about the fit! I know I could have gone to one of the big box sporting goods stores, but would not have gotten the individual attention we received. I also showed curiosity about the running shoes (I'm not a runner, but think I could be) and he offered to do all the measuring and testing to get me in the right pair. (I declined for now). There was no pressure at all. Customer service goes a long way! read more

I just took up and running and my friend brought me to Dick Pond's. Awesome customer service! I like the fact that they could video you running on the treadmill and suggest shoes that would work for you. The only thing I like about running is my shoes. read more

Great sales staff! I have to wear orthotics and the staff fitted me with wonderful shoes that are not only comfortable, but took my knee pain away as well. Thank you! Dick Pond is not just a running shoe store. Yes, they do sell the stuff to get you started, continue and excel on your running goals. They do that very well and yes that's how they earn money. But beside that, they are little head-quarter of the Chicagoland running community. There is almost no local race that isn't somehow sponsor by Dick Pond. They have an associated running club with more than 500 runners. They do walk to runs, fun runs, track training and weekend long runs. Everyone in the store is a runner and they make you feel welcome to join them, no matter if you are doing 6 min/mile or 15 min/mile. And somewhere in all those miles you become a friend and the thought of buying your running gear elsewhere doesn't cross your mind anymore. Great job! read more

Dick Pond in Lisle is like that old friend who you've known forever and don't see very often, but every time you run into them you're left with good memories. I bought my very first pair of running shoes here back in 7th grade and through running in high school, college, and beyond I think I've only bought 2 or 3 pairs of shoes elsewhere. I go out of my way to purchase shoes here, for numerous reasons. I know someone else mentioned the shoes are expensive, but honestly I have always felt that Dick Pond prices are $5-15 less than other specialty running stores or those awful chains like Foot Locker. Plus, they have discount bins of last season's shoes, and I always find great deals there. I once got a pair of Nike Air Max for $35. Wayne, the manager, grew up in the same town where I went to college, and he always makes it a point to ask when I've been back and chat about my job, etc. My mom, who is an avid runner, also shops there and Wayne always remembers her as well. There aren't very many running stores like this, that offer great deals and personal service. The salespeople are mainly local college runners who are extremely knowledgeable and helpful but never pushy. Additionaly, they strongly support the local running community. I can't remember a local road race without a Dick Pond presence, and they used to come and give talks to our high school team on running topics. read more

I would highly recommend. They take the time to analyze your foot and gait to ensure that you have the best fit shoes. He was quite patient while I tried on several, and found a great pair! I will be returning! read more

Great place. Went in with a problem with shoe inserts (purchased elsewhere) and they helped me out with a solution that had no cost attached (removed inserts they had in the back). Will definitely get my next shoes here ! read more

Just spent 45 minutes reading consumer and professional reviews on shoes I am looking to buy. Decided to skip all of this because the reviews are all over the place. I am going back to Dick Pond because they continue to work with me till the fit is right. I may spend $20 more than buying them on sale someplace else but I WILL WEAR THEM. How many of us have shoes in our closets that "just don't fit"? If fitness matters, the fit matters. read more

Any avid runner knows that your most important piece of equipment is your shoes. The right shoes not only are more comfortable but they also prevent aches, pains and injuries that can develop overtime. Dick Pond Athletics is the place to go to find the perfect shoe for you. The instant you walk the door, a friendly employee comes up to you with a welcoming greeting and cheerfully asks you what you are looking for. The store is spacious, organized and decorated with items that scream running. The racks are filled with the running gear and a wall can be seen covered with the latest training shoe and racing flat models. If you are in need for a pair of shoes, they will put you on a treadmill located right in the store to analyze your gait, something that would never happen in a sports chain store. After analyzing your gait, they will bring out several pairs of shoes for you to try on. All these shoes have varying brands so you have several options with varying shoe widths. After you decide which shoe is right for you, the employee will walk you to the register and take care of your purchase. If you are in need for a pair of racing spikes, the employees thoroughly explain the difference between each kind of spike. You can even try out a pair of spikes on a strip of track they have right in the store to see how well the spikes grip to the track. They will also help you if you are having trouble with your current racing spikes. The other day I went in to ask for help because one of my spikes was stuck in my racing spikes. The employees attempted to remove them several times and then sold me 14 replacement spikes to replace my old ones. They even put them in for me! Dick pond also keeps last year's models and puts them in their close out bins. You can find great deals in these bins but the greatest deals you will find are during their annual close out sales. I bought a pair of cross country spikes for $12! A deal you would not be able to find elsewhere. When it is finally time to make your purchase, an employee will walk you over to a glass case which is full of bumper stickers that say things such as run, 26.2,13.1 and CC which makes an avid runner feel like you're not the only one. The case also contains the latest high tech watches and much more. Overall, Dick pond is runner's heaven for any running fanatic who's looking for great customer service. read more

Went in here to speak with someone who knows shoes and knows running and was not disappointed. The associate (Dave?) listened to my shoes/foot issue. He did a few diagnostic checks including a video capture of a test run on their tread mill. I got some good feedback on my running form and we discussed matching a shoe to my particular needs. I really appreciated that he didn't try to convince me that the solution was simply to buy a new pair of shoes. It's worth the few extra bucks. read more

Absolutely zero customer service for what would have been a new customer. Came in with my son for X Country shoes, wasn't greeted or even acknowledged at all. After five minutes of sending confused looks to the few workers that were all busy chatting with others, I figured perhaps even though this is an over priced specialty store it's self serve like a big box store. After crawling around other customers who apparently feel it's fine to sit in a store with no shirt on and massage their calves I was able to squeeze over to a section of shoes that were appropriate for our needs. After still getting no help I decided this store was not going to get a dime of my money. Basically wasted 15 minutes in there and drove out of my way for a major let down. Upon leaving we still weren't acknowledged and even my son asked why the service was so bad. Maybe we came on a bad night, I don't know, but I do know if you're a specialty store you should at least pretend to care about a customer walking in. My son said he'll be sure to tel the Xcountry team about what happened and I hope he does. read more
