Stopped in Here last week " just" to grab a pair of compression socks for my 16 year old son. I ended up with a pair of Brooks ( oops)! I have to say my experience dealing with Mitch was the Best customer service I have received on a long time. Mitch is super informative, nice, professional and passionate about helping others. I asked for a massage therapist referral and he introduced me to the Thera Gun. Let's face it... I'm not a runner. The only type of "running" I do is the beer run or pizza run. That was until I started applying to be a local 5-0 and saw there's a 1.5 mile run. For the past four months I have been training for that on a pair of crappy shoes from Kohl's. Unfortunately I really didn't understand the importance of good running shoes until I came home every night with my knees, ankles and heels hurting. A friend suggested Dick Pond and off I went. I came in on a busy Thursday. I was asked to take off my shoes and walk. Tom, the sales associate, could immediately see I had a flat foot. He then measured my shoe size to 11 wide. There was only one shoe style in their store but if I was willing to come back on Saturday, he would get a couple more from their other stores. So I agreed and came back Saturday. Unfortunately my Godzilla sized shoes only yielded two other pairs. No problems though, I don't need to make more decisions. I was able to take the shoes on a test run on the treadmill and Tom made sure that they fit comfortably on my feet before I left the store. I've been running on the new shoes now and there had been no foot problems or achy joints. Amazing what proper footwear can do. I appreciated the customer service in the store. It wasn't about selling the most expensive pair but rather the shoes that fit the best. Even though I was a newbie to running, I was treated with the same courtesy as those who have been in the sport for years. The service at this place rocks! Being a somewhat avid runner I like to visit as many running stores as I can. I dropped in here today to take a look around and meet the staff. Rob was awesome. He fitted my feet, then he did a full gait analysis. He also analyzed my old running shoes to see what kind of wear I had on them. I just moved here from Denver (the athletic capital of the world) and most stores there don't offer this much service! After analyzing my running, he brought out several different pairs of shoes to try. I tried on at least 3 different pairs and he had me run on the store treadmill in each pair. Again, a remarkable amount of patience. He had a ton of knowledge about the product, and I ended up getting a new pair of kicks to start training for the Chicago Marathon in. I really can't say enough about this place- just a wonderful customer service experience through and through. I have never had a good experience here for some reason. Maybe it is the elitist attitude I seem to receive seem I am not an avid runner, not more than a treadmiller at best. The shoes are pricey, I prefer to get the same on Eastbay for a lot less without the hassle. If you are a runner though, I bet this store is great. After my failed attempt of getting the right shoes elsewhere, I went to Dick Pond to try to get a better idea on what shoes are right for me. I've never been in the store, but I have seen their truck out at a meet and they had some awesome deals out of the truck. The store itself is actually pretty big and has a lot more stuff than I thought it would. The employees were friendly and personable asking about future races and what not. They watched me walk to get ideas on gait and pronation. They brought out a few pairs of shoes and let me try them out on the side walk outside (cannot tell you how much of a difference this makes to jog on the sidewalk with them rather than trying to run through a small store with them or even on a treadmill). They did not have my potential wide size in stock, but said they would have it by the next day, which is crazy fast. No high pressure sales pitch and they were super cool about getting it in the next day and holding it for me to try and compare to the regular width. Great shoe store! Bonus, if you are willing to buy previous models, you can get really good prices. The current years shoes are a little pricey, but that is how it is anywhere, but I typically stick with a model if I like it. read more

I have never bought a running shoe that's specific to my gait, so I decided it was time I got some help. A friend at work recommended Dick Pond and I couldn't have had a better experience. Dave was great - he video taped my run and picked out five shoes to try on and then run outside. I thought I had a neutral gait but it turns out I have pronation. I narrowed it down to two, and Dave said "put one on each foot and walk around. If you can't tell the difference buy the cheaper one." I went to Dick Pond's in Lisle last year and bought a new pair of Saucony's which the clerk recommended. Within the first week the whole back tread came off the shoe. The I went in today to buy new shoes and I even pretty much knew the shoes I wanted to buy. I ran Cross Country and Track in High School and College so I am not new to the game. Anyways, they had a bunch of people in the store trying on Newman shoes and filling out papers for a free shoe drawing. I needed a good pair of running shoes and read the reviews and decided to go for it. I went to the store in Crest Hill. Very professional, sized my foot and told me I needed a stability shoe. I must have tried on 6 pairs of shoes and could run outside with them on. The salesperson was very informative. I would recommend this store to anyone looking to purchase running shoes. They are expensive shoes, they are not running shoes you get at Kohls or whatever. BUT the shoes are cheaper at Dick Ponds than at Zappos online.The benefit is trying on all the shoes. I brought my son in for his wrestling shoes for the third year in a row. It's funny how teenager's feet grow! I actually stopped in first (by myself) and picked out a pair to bring home and I was encouraged by the salesperson to bring my son in. Sure enough, the shoes didn't fit and we ended up driving back the next day together. The sales person was very helpful in finding the right fit for my son's shoes and didn't push the higher priced shoes on us. It was all about the fit! I know I could have gone to one of the big box sporting goods stores, but would not have gotten the individual attention we received. I also showed curiosity about the running shoes (I'm not a runner, but think I could be) and he offered to do all the measuring and testing to get me in the right pair. (I declined for now). Dick Pond is not just a running shoe store. Yes, they do sell the stuff to get you started, continue and excel on your running goals. They do that very well and yes that's how they earn money. But beside that, they are little head-quarter of the Chicagoland running community. There is almost no local race that isn't somehow sponsor by Dick Pond. They have an associated running club with more than 500 runners. They do walk to runs, fun runs, track training and weekend long runs. Everyone in the store is a runner and they make you feel welcome to join them, no matter if you are doing 6 min/mile or 15 min/mile. And somewhere in all those miles you become a friend and the thought of buying your running gear elsewhere doesn't cross your mind anymore. Great job! read more

Dick Pond in Lisle is like that old friend who you've known forever and don't see very often, but every time you run into them you're left with good memories. I bought my very first pair of running shoes here back in 7th grade and through running in high school, college, and beyond I think I've only bought 2 or 3 pairs of shoes elsewhere. I go out of my way to purchase shoes here, for numerous reasons. I know someone else mentioned the shoes are expensive, but honestly I have always felt that Dick Pond prices are $5-15 less than other specialty running stores or those awful chains like Foot Locker. Plus, they have discount bins of last season's shoes, and I always find great deals there. I once got a pair of Nike Air Max for $35. Wayne, the manager, grew up in the same town where I went to college, and he always makes it a point to ask when I've been back and chat about my job, etc. My mom, who is an avid runner, also shops there and Wayne always remembers her as well. There aren't very many running stores like this, that offer great deals and personal service. The salespeople are mainly local college runners who are extremely knowledgeable and helpful but never pushy. Additionaly, they strongly support the local running community. I can't remember a local road race without a Dick Pond presence, and they used to come and give talks to our high school team on running topics. read more

If you are in need for a pair of shoes, they will put you on a treadmill located right in the store to analyze your gait, something that would never happen in a sports chain store. After analyzing your gait, they will bring out several pairs of shoes for you to try on. All these shoes have varying brands so you have several options with varying shoe widths. After you decide which shoe is right for you, the employee will walk you to the register and take care of your purchase. If you are in need for a pair of racing spikes, the employees thoroughly explain the difference between each kind of spike. You can even try out a pair of spikes on a strip of track they have right in the store to see how well the spikes grip to the track.They will also help you if you are having trouble with your current racing spikes. The other day I went in to ask for help because one of my spikes was stuck in my racing spikes. The employees attempted to remove them several times and then sold me 14 replacement spikes to replace my old ones. They even put them in for me! Dick pond also keeps last year's models and puts them in their close out bins. You can find great deals in these bins but the greatest deals you will find are during their annual close out sales. I bought a pair of cross country spikes for $12! A deal you would not be able to find elsewhere. When it is finally time to make your purchase, an employee will walk you over to a glass case which is full of bumper stickers that say things such as run, 26.2,13.1 and CC which makes an avid runner feel like you're not the only one. Went in here to speak with someone who knows shoes and knows running and was not disappointed. The associate (Dave?) listened to my shoes/foot issue. He did a few diagnostic checks including a video capture of a test run on their tread mill. I got some good feedback on my running form and we discussed matching a shoe to my particular needs. Absolutely zero customer service for what would have been a new customer. Came in with my son for X Country shoes, wasn't greeted or even acknowledged at all. After five minutes of sending confused looks to the few workers that were all busy chatting with others, I figured perhaps even though this is an over priced specialty store it's self serve like a big box store. After crawling around other customers who apparently feel it's fine to sit in a store with no shirt on and massage their calves I was able to squeeze over to a section of shoes that were appropriate for our needs. After still getting no help I decided this store was not going to get a dime of my money. Basically wasted 15 minutes in there and drove out of my way for a major let down. Upon leaving we still weren't acknowledged and even my son asked why the service was so bad. Maybe we came on a bad night, I don't know, but I do know if you're a specialty store you should at least pretend to care about a customer walking in.
