Heartly Roll and New York Roll
Gregory C.

This was such a great dinner place! The service from Bam was spectacular and everything we ordered was tasty and I'd order again. The monkey balls which I ordered with light tempura were not over fried and had a healthy serving of spicy tuna. The spicy shelled edamame was made with spicy chili oil and sriracha, which was nice that I had other items to balance with. The rolls are pricey but oh so worth it. We ordered the hearty roll and New York roll and would go back to order them again. Highly recommend!

Diaz kitchen suggests Mexican food, but Diaz kitchen & Sushi Bar? Two story restaurant windows floor to ceiling in downtown Alburquerque on Central Ave. Service is leisurely taking about 8 minutes for the noodles to arrive, and 19 minutes for the sushi to arrive. $23.92 seafood pan fried noodles came with six good sized shrimp, over a ton of noodles, covering cabbage, broccoli and sliced carrots. The noodles lacked crispness when cooked at high temperatures on a wok. Large serving size. Choosing the rice noodles may have been a mistake, and should have used ramen noodles, as most of the flavor was from the cabbage juice, and the shrimp. Have yet to find a place in Albuquerque that serves tasty shrimp, as it is 800 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and 900 miles from the Gulf Coast. $10.40 New Mexico roll came with crab avocado cucumber rice and green chili wrapped in seaweed covered with sauce. Good value, as it had similar flavor from the shrimp tempura which costs 50% more. First time had green chili in sushi, but not noticeably spicy. $15.60 Shrimp tempura roll came with crab, avocado, cucumber and shrimp rice wrapped in seaweed. Not much flavor from the shrimp Splurging in New Mexico. $63 dinner for two was the most expensive meal on our 8 day trip to Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Could have done without the hip hop rap music, as wife would have plugged her ears but needed her hands to eat the food.

Cold sake & iced water (6/13/2023)

Diaz Kitchen & Sushi Bar took the place of another sushi restaurant. I'd never been to either one until 6/13/2023. It's located on the same block as the Sunshine Theater which often hosts a myriad of musical genres for more intimate concerts. There is limited, metered street parking. Inside, this place is very hip and cool with it's dangling star and glass ball lights, high industrial ceilings, and subway tiles. There is bar and low table indoor seating only. Service was excellent. I chose to sit at the bar because I like watching sushi being made. It's very soothing and comforting. The chef was funny & friendly. I started off with some cold Sho Chiku Bai Ginjo sake as recommended by the owner. I wanted a small karafe. It was really good. Without my asking, he also brought some iced water which I needed because I didn't realize how much hotter than 83°F it felt that day. Next I requested some sweeter sashimi. The chef quickly prepared two pieces. I can't remember what the hell I had, but I took a photo of it. It was delicious with a slice of jalapeño and cilantro on top. Mostly likely because I was one of very few patrons at around 6PM that Tuesday evening, this particular chef said he would make two special fish pieces on the house for me. It was eel on top of a bed of rice with a thin wrap of seaweed, sesame seeds, and a bit of sauce. I'm not sure what else, but damn was I surprised it was so good. This is sushi in New Mexico? Lol. I also had a lemon cake roll which I had my heart on since I bookmarked this place a week beforehand. So good! I highly recommend this because it was unlike anything else I've ever had. I got a dirty look from the chef when I declined dessert. It's not you, it's me I tried to explain. I sometimes don't want sweets is all. Moments later he handed me a plate of a sliced up orange in the form of a panda with an umbrella at his side, again on the house. :) My whole meal was around $28. I left a good tip & hoped they will get more business in the future. CONS I walked here from my hotel, Hotel Andaluz Albuquerque, which was less than a block away. I did not feel particularly safe even with my vigilant state of mind and protective gear on my person. Then while I was eating, a highly disoriented, seemingly homeless zombie of a man came into the restaurant. He milled around a bit. Then started walking towards me at the bar. Thank goodness the owner blocked him and escorted his butt back outside. Moral of story: Have dinner with a group. Leave & arrive together. Even then, be aware of your surroundings at all times. It's downtown Albuquerque & won't change any time soon. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4.5 | Price: 4

Diaz Kitchen & Sushi Bar was a pleasant surprise in Downtown Albuquerque, mainly because they filled in the huge gaping hole left when Sushi King closed. Diaz is equal to SK. Plus, they offer breakfast with various dishes honoring Japanese and New Mexican cuisine. Some fun creativity worth trying. Really, everything is worth trying. My go-to is their sushi and nigiri.

This place is delicious and family friendly. The service was very nice, I forgot my phone and our sever ran out to give it to me! Thank you so much. The sushi was tasty and fresh. We celebrated my sister's birthday, and we had a good time.

Unknown charge of $10

I ordered the chicken fried rice and a deep fried sushi roll, plus two sprites and one water. my total was $51.93 I tipped $9.35 (18%). I thought about it and $61.28 is outrageous for the items I ordered. I asked for a receipt and sure enough there was an additional $10 added to my bill, I did address the issue with the server considering the receipt showed my total should have been $42.38. He did not know why I was charged another $10. I got a refund of $10, but I find it strange because how many other customers has this happened to and they don't even know.

Chirashi. Unfinished from how bad it is.

Initial impression was good. Was seated with my coworkers and ordered in a timely fashion. Drinks came out shortly after and my coworkers loved the Thai ice tea. Maybe 15 minutes later we were given miso soup and it was okay. Nothing special. About 35 minutes after we ordered the food for my coworkers was delivered. Just two sushi rolls, nothing fancy or that needs lot of prep or cook time. Finally after 50 minutes my Chirashi was delivered. The fish was old (I know I'm in New Mexico and not going to get anything off the boat - but the 7/11 has better sushi). The rice didn't even have the furikake flakes to season it. The waiter never checked in with us. A family of five that came in after we got our miso soup came in and ordered + had their food delivered before any of us had our food given to us. Waiter took an additional 10 minutes after clearing out plates to give us the check. The place wasn't packed, we were sat at 7:20 PM and there were less than 10 patrons inside. Came here because of the 4.5 stars on Yelp, but I'll never come back.

Lunch at a sushi spot that used to be sushi king. It's super clean and nice inside. The customer service was wonderful. This was a quick shared lunch, we order a fitness roll and a monkey ball. The fitness roll was fresh and crunchy. The fish was fresh and delicate. The monkey ball was ok, felt like the mushrooms needed to be cooked a little more but over was good. We will come back and try something else .

Blood line in the fish is totally unacceptable.

We picked up dinner for my birthday. The cucumber salad had no flavor. We had to add soy sauce and sriracha. The three rolls we ordered were good but the rice was mushy. Which I understand because my husband picked it up and it was about a 15 minute drive home. However, what was unacceptable was the blood line in the fish, super fishy flavor. There should never be any blood line. I had to cut it out. We didn't even finish the rolls since we lost our appetite. $77 for 3 rolls, cucumber salad and tip. Absolutely not worth the cost. I apologize but we will not return.

Nice day for a motorcycle ride and an attempt to brave downtown traffic to check this place out. Traffic was good and lunch rush was over so getting here was a breeze. Plenty of empty meter parking spots so we parked in front of the store. Grabbed a seat and got our menus. Lots of selections so we started with miso soup until our 1st order made up of Lemon Cake, Panko and Furikake rolls arrived. When they did arrive the taste was excellent. The Panko Roll was definitely different - a nice crust in the outside of the roll. We like the lemon based rolls we've had at other places and the Lemon Cake Roll no different. The green chile, lemon combination added a unique flavor. Finally the Furikake Roll was equally delicious. Ingredient freshness was evident in all the rolls we ate. Service was excellent making this a worthwhile stop. We'll be back for more.

We rolled into town on a road trip and quickly found Diaz close to our hotel. What a score! Beautiful little place! Service was perfect and food too notch. We had a poke bowl (loaded!) and udon noodle soup with shrimp (6 healthy ones). Make sure to go here soon

New to the city and wanted to have a sushi night. This place did not disappoint!!! Don't let the small building fool you, the food was just as good as a high end restaurant. We got two different rolls, bento box, fried noodle chicken ramen, and veggie spring rolls! The ramen was to die for. Service was also good. We will be back!

Delicious sushi/sashimi with fantastic atmosphere! Very chill and clean and comfortable environment. Located by my hotel so I am glad I gave this place a shot. I will be back next time I'm in town. Sake was also awesome too. 5 star all the way for presentation and friendly owner/staff.

When served, the dish proved to be an absolute culinary triumph rich, aromatic, and infused with a perfectly balanced, sophisticated kick of spice that exceeded every expectation. Add a star if you are ok with the seasoning. We will certainly be back for the Rangoon and to try other menu options.
