Since that time, my daughter is on her way to level 6 for CM. Mrs. Melton is one of the few teachers in the area that is CM certified. She is passionate about teaching. On a side note, Mrs. Melton is NOT racist by any stretch. I am Hispanic and my wife is Chinese. We have never felt ANY sort of 'tension' based on ethnicity. Too many times the word "racist" is used haphazardly and will, no doubt, result in slanderous outcome.

Although we did not end up pursuing piano in the long term, Mrs. Melton was everything we hoped for. She was great when dealing with my daughter and making sure she learned a great deal in their lessons. Her warm character makes her a lovely person to teach your child. She offers many methods of remembering what has been learned and even adapted to the needs of my daughter when she was struggling in her piano studies. My daughter and I both agree that her piano lessons should be recommended to people of all ages and levels. I was always impressed with her curriculum and how prepared she always was for our lessons. She. Very easily gets a 5 star rating from my family!

Instrumental Music for Children has been providing our kids with piano lessons for 3 years. At…read morefirst, they provided in-school lessons at the elementary school as an after-school program. But we have continued with them for in-home piano lessons over the summers, and (due to scheduling conflicts) during the school year last year. Bottom line, this kind of school is all about the teachers. We have had two piano teachers so far, and both of them have been absolutely top notch! The first one was a jazz pianist in her spare time. She was very sweet to the kids, and they still remember her and say hi when they see her. But due to scheduling conflicts, she no longer does lessons in our neighborhood. Their second teacher is a multi-instrumentalist, he is a lot younger and plays in a rock band on the side. I think this has had a lot of benefits for our kids. My son especially needs to see the "fun" side of playing music, and this teacher is very good at that. At the end of each lesson, he lets my son bang away at the keys, or improvise, or learn songs that are more fun to play. I've also noticed he is very good at helping the kids return their focus to the lesson if it starts to wander, as it is likely to do with kids their age. Every year they hold an end of the year recital for the kids to strut their stuff and the parents to get some video. It's not Carnegie Hall, but it is very sweet and fun experience for everyone. Administratively, they have been great too. They have worked to make sure our kids could stay with the same teacher as much as possible. Their billing has always been very easy and very fair.

I have studied with a handful of teachers as an adult returning to music after several decades of not playing -- and I must say that Amy is the best teacher by far. I have had difficulties in the past persuading my instructors that no, I really couldn't reproduce the gesture or technique being demonstrated to me, my brain and hands just didn't work that way. Amy has been delightfully open to problem-solving along with me so that together as pupil and teacher we figure out how to work *with* my learning challenges, rather than against them, or around them. She is a gifted teacher: she inspires me, makes me want to play, commiserates with tricky fingering and bowing, slows down when I need time to write something down or record her on my phone. She is funny, and gracious and encouraging. AND she plays divinely. She is truly a teacher for adults as well as for kids. You will thrive if you are ready to throw yourself into the total experience of making music. She plays with a gorgeous resonant velvety tone. You will sit back in awe in how she draws exquisitely rich tones from her instrument. AND she will do her best to show you how to do this too!

As someone who learned piano as a child, lost it, and then picked it up again in adulthood, Chris…read morereally helped me find a new way of learning and loving the piano without reinventing the wheel. Initially, he asked me what I wanted out of re-learning the piano (getting the basics down and learning how to play the songs I loved), and then developed a plan for me to pick up on the theoretical skills I learned as a kid while training my ear to recognize the notes in my fav songs. He was patient, knowledgeable, and accommodating to a learning style that worked best for me! Wish I could rate higher than 5 stars

Not only is Chris knowledgeable and professional, he is a fantastic teacher! He is patient, relatable, kind AND humble. And a great listener! Wth?? I have been working with him for about 6 months and I wish I'd started 6 years ago! I'm a professional violinist and composer in my 60's and I'd been trying to learn Logic on my own for several years--stumbling along with Youtube videos that never seemed to have the information I needed. So I booked a lesson w Chris specifically on Logic. Well, it turns out that he is a whiz at Logic, Sibelius, production, general computer issues (and he writes music, engineers recording sessions, plays piano, drums...I want to meet his mother!). My list for my last lesson: -Logic questions -Zoom - editing Zoom recordings--he does that too! -Gear - advice on a couple things to buy -Sibelius - many things -File Management - my files were an absolute nightmare. I was terrified I'd never find something if I put it in a folder so my desktop was like a scary hoarder situation.Chris tactfully suggested some ways to tame the piles. While I'm not completely reformed, but I'm actually making progress and I see a world in which my files are filed so that they can be easily found! -Logic - So many things....He is a great explainer! And he figures out the easiest way to do something if that's what you're after (at the moment it is). I've been teaching violin for over 40 years and I know a good teacher when I see one. I'm sure Chris is also a great piano, drum and production teacher too, because he is genuinely interested in what it is you want to accomplish. He meets you where you are (THE MOST IMPORTANT THING) and then sends you down the path toward your goal. He re-explains what you're working on in different ways if the concept is not getting through your thick skull. He gives good metaphors ha ha! Did I mention he is also a very nice human being? Sometimes young people are impatient with my generation--I'm slow on the uptake when it comes to learning new software. Chris never makes me feel like I'm dumb--on the contrary, I feel empowered with new skills I'm learning in our lessons. I'm telling you, do not wait--if there's something you want to learn about music, this is your guy.
