Community Christmas Day Dinner by Bridging RVA

The Richmond Community Christmas Day Dinner is in it's 4th year, an annual outreach by Bridging…read moreRVA, held at Temple Beth Ahabah, 1111 W. Franklin Street, Richmond 23224, on Christmas Day between 11 am and 3 pm. It was my first year at this event, and I hope it will not be my last. All are welcome. All are fed. Toys for the children. And it's all free, however, donations are accepted on their website. Not sure what to expect, I was braced for standing in line for my meal and chatting with other Richmonders. There was no line. After making my way down a path with many steps and many turns, I appeared in a theater (or at least a large space with a stage), which was set up for serving many meals. Each of the perhaps 15 tables were set up with ~8 place settings of plastic packets containing knife, fork, spoon, napkin, and a dual packet of salt & pepper.I was seated immediately and offered coffee, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, water... I requested water, and was given a bottle of chilled water, perhaps 12 ounces. Another volunteer brought me a paper plate of food: Thin sliced turkey with gravy and a hint of cranberry sauce, yeast roll, string beans, mashed potatoes, and macaroni. After eating the meal, another volunteer offered me Coffee and a slice of pie: Cherry, Apple, Pecan. I chose Apple Pie & Coffee. That's the basics. Now the critique. It appears that the dining space is not accessible for the disabled. As I was making my way down the many steps, there I met several others coming up the steps with more difficulty than I was having. I made heavy use of the handrails. I'm thinking there should be a dispenser of sani-wipes at both the bottom and top of the steps. I really liked the concept of a community dinner, and felt like I should volunteer in subsequent years. However, the dining area was awash in volunteers, and any more, I think, would get in the way more than anything else. The packets of knife/fork/spoon/napkin/salt/pepper were the most pathetic I've ever seen! (At least they were not sporks.) Next year, while working the floor may not be right for me, I intend to acquire and donate up to 1,000 setups of a much higher quality. The paper plates for both the meal and the dessert were quite adequate, as was the thick paper tumblers for the coffee. All in all, this event (the fourth by Bridging RVA) was a rousing success. But next year I'll offer my 2¢ worth in the planning stages.

Once Chris Harrington with Camden Pools showed up to discuss my pool and the various options, I was immediately at ease. He didn't try and sell me what I didn't need, and displayed great patience in answering all my questions and concerns. He was professional and always followed through with each and every step as he said he would. He still goes above and beyond in answering my questions months later-no matter how simple the question. I definitely recommend Camden Pools.

He literally during his attempt to install our $6k above ground pool destroyed it! Two thirds of the pool wall was not in the bottom track, the liner was 2.5ft off center end to end and the corners were off 3ft which caused the liner to pull and all the walls to buckle when he attempted to fill the pool. He then blamed it on the sun going over our house and the liner ``cooling off``. Then he stated he would not be able to come back to fix it for at least two weeks but the four inches of water in the pool was sufficient to hold the walls and liner up. He also blamed the water delivery company stating there was no way he could get them to bring another load of water in the near future. As a contractor and prior part owner of a pool company in this area I know and have dealt with the water truck company for many years. They informed me when I called that he stated multiple times that he had no intention of coming back. I never have contracted out and paid someone to do anything I think or know I can do myself especially once I set my mind to it. In the five years of being half owner of a pool company we sold and installed turnkey everything from a 24ft. above ground pool to a $125k fiberglass in ground that was flown over the customers house and set in place by crane. The only reason he was hired was due to me having back surgery which he started our pool the day after I got home from the hospital. When he showed up I offered him a copy of the installation instructions I had printed off and he refused and said ``I don`t need them they`re all the same``!
