Naima was easy to talk to and did my taxes efficiently. He also helped me with my w-4 form since, according to him, my company wasn't doing my taxes correctly the past 3 years which was causing me to owe the government more money. When I did my income tax, I somehow had to pay a staggering $5,400 back to the government. It turns out that the tax preparer did my taxes wrong. They said the manager Sarah would be in later that day but that was a bold faced lie as Sarah said she wasn't coming in at all. I had to waste time by coming here 3 times because of their incompetence. They also lied to me by saying it would cost me $150 to do my taxes here when it was really $200. XL Tax Services cost me $135 and Hackers Accounting cost me $350. This whole situation caused me great stress as I was charged around $5,400 because of their own mistake. I don't understand why they have people working here who don't have sufficient experience doing taxes. I thought Sarah would solve my issues but she had no idea how to fix my problem and was learning how to do so herself. So is everyone working here not actually experienced in doing taxes? She eventually figured it out but it was such an awful experience dealing with multiple lies and multiple stupid people who didn't know what they were doing. I even overheard her talking to IRS avoiding responsibility when it was her office's fault that I was in this situation to begin with. I've been a business owner for over ten years and I don't think I've ever had a less professional call with someone in a professional field in my entire career. He came very highly recommended as someone who cares deeply about his clients and has experiences unwinding complex tax situations. The conversation we had was the furthest from that I could possibly imagine. Among choice quotes from Jonathan were: - "I can change you five times my normal rate and maybe that will incentivize me to help you" - "When you think about all that you are needing - the returns for the past years, any financial review that may need to happen, and allowing you have less 'hands on' and transferring the 'leg work,' what do you believe the investment should be for this type of service?" He also made it clear that if I worked with him, I should not take reasonable deductions (like contributing to a SEP IRA), because he wouldn't be able to take the time to help me estimate my contribution. He also is clearly uninformed about basic tax rules, like what the deadline for making a SEP IRA contribution is. A two minute google search confirmed this. Which begs the question - what other tax laws and regulations does he not understand? I would have much rather he just said up front "I'm sorry, I'm booked up and I don't have the bandwidth to help you." Instead, the conversation we had was appalling. She was willing to do a long form for me to try and get a bigger refund, but I told her that the interest on my mortgage has not made a difference in the past 5 years. She told me to gather my medical bills to combine with it and it may work out combined with mortgage interest, but I don't really have access to everything based on provider/portal changes. I don't normally keep the paper copies of my bills since everything is online these days. I had switched to Irma this year because my previous tax lady had moved further out from me, plus that lady sold her business. I figured it was my chance to start fresh. I had called around/browsed websites of a few places. Irma's fees were closest to my old tax lady's fees. Everyone else I contacted had exorbitant fees. I'm glad I found Irma.
