I would almost consider moving to Akron to eat at Diamond Deli all the time. While visiting my sister we ate here multiple times. We would share the veggie melt and the grilled cheese. Ordered here through DoorDash today for the first time. I got the "Chris's Smile for the Camera" and a small potato salad. As far as the sandwich, it was very tasty except that it was like DRENCHED in the spicy mayo! It was literally just coming out all sides of the bread and since this was a delivery it made parts of the bread really soggy and hard to eat. Having said that, the sandwich was very good and the ingredients tasted fresh. Came with a couple of dill pickle spears and that's always a plus! The potato salad was delicious. It wasn't really sweet like some places, tasted homemade with just the right amount of mustard and mayo. Ok I've been here a few times now and this place is everything most locals claim it to be. Being its only a few blocks from my downtown Akron office this place usually comes to mind when my belly starts rumbling around lunch time and it's usually an easy sell with most of my business associates, I've yet to have to twist anyone's arm when I throw out Diamond Deli as a lunch option. I really haven't landed on a favorite sandwich yet although I'm thinking it will involve corn beef or pastrami and of course a thick slice of Middlefield, Ohio Swiss Cheese and a slathering of spicy mustard on rye. I've yet to beat the crowds here during the lunch hours but the staff keeps the line moving and somehow there's always a seat even though it never looks like there will be while standing in line. There are a lot of incredible delicatessens in NE Ohio and each brings something unique and delicious to the table and this one is no different, it been operating since 1997 but if you didn't know this you could assume they've been here for a half a century or more. Only reason for 4 was the Pastrami was fairly tough/fatty at times and my wife thought they could use better turkey in her Reuben. She loves her Duma Meat Turkey Deli and knows good deli meat... They have the best potato salad I've had anywhere besides my mom's. I often get a taste for potato salad, and am always disappointed since most places use Grandma's brand or something like it which is both too sweet and sour/mustardy at the same time.
