My wife wanted to have her engagement ring's setting changed. I bought her a marquis cut diamond that was in the traditional setting with the stone running perpendicular to the setting. She wanted to have the stone turned sideways so the stone would run parallel with the gold setting. I thought that sounded really weird, but, it is what she wanted. She went to see Randy Siegel at the Diamond Cellar. Randy advised us on what she could do with the stone and how to best design the new setting. He drew some designs, and then set us the CAD design. My wife had some questions and suggestions for the setting, which Randy incorporated into the design. When we went to go see the ring, we were stunned! It was better than I could have imagined ... and I originally thought the idea was stupid. I was blown away by how BEAUTIFUL it was! Randy also gave us great advice on how to best care for the ring and the diamonds. It was a great experience! I would NEVER hesitate to let Randy DESIGN ANYTHING FOR US. My fiance and I came into browse wedding bands because we were in the area, and had no real intention of purchasing anything today. However, that quickly changed when we met Ken. Ken was very kind and personable upon meeting and we instantly felt comfortable and at ease. He was able to explain different wedding band options and was a great listener to our needs. Buyer Beware!!!!! Disappointed with my experience. Not only was I told that the ring I purchased could not be returned but diamond cellar refused to even help or suggest any ideas for ways to sell it on consignment. And they refused to sell their ring on consignment because it was made of lab grown diamonds. Diamond cellar sells lab grown diamonds and they claim there is an after market for. Just like if you purchase a car, it loses some of its value after you drive off the lot, but in this case imagine that the ring we purchased has a zero value the minute we purchased. They surely know how profusely apologize for offering "nothing we can do" but they clearly don't stand behind the product they sell. They seem more than happy to leave their customers without any help or options as we are sent on our way with a, "sorry, there is nothing we can do." I asked for some escalation to management but its been over a month and no call or contact made by staff. I knew what I bought but assumed that they would at least provide assistance in dealing with the situation instead of leaving me on my own to figure it out. I quit going to Diamond Cellar years ago but decided to give them one more try since my engagement ring and wedding band were purchased there when it was a reputable company. I went yesterday to have my wedding set sized from a 9 to 6.5. The employee took the rings back "to be looked at". She came back 20 minutes later telling me that sizing my rings would "compromise" them. She then handed me an estimate for $1,800 to have them remade. I took the rings to two different reputable jewelers today. Shockingly, they both said it was possible and would do no damage. Instead of $1,800, my rings are being expertly resized for $175. Friendly, knowledgeable, locally owned & operated. The Diamond Cellar started back in 1947 as a trade shop located on north High Street above Kresge's Five and Dime. It wasn't until 1960 when they moved to a location beneath the Franklin Federal Savings and Loans building. It was here that the company name would become The Diamond Cellar as the it was located in the basement. I grew up knowing this story because my parents grew up with the Johnson Family. My parents also purchased their wedding rings from the basement location. They tell me there was a doorbell/buzzer that they had to ring to get in. When it came time to purchase an engagement ring I went directly to the Diamond Cellar and purchased my ring. We also purchased our wedding rings here. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and not pushy. They showed me several diamonds and made sure I knew all about the 4 C's. I felt confident when I made my purchase. Though i appreciate the actual execution of the service provided, what i don't appreciate is the attitude and utter disrespect given. It is distasteful to receive sly remarks and judgement within request of a simple service. New to the area, I was highly recommended this business and location for seeking fine accessories and the ability to adjust a watch, that was gifted to me, and was met with an unappreciated, demeaning, and rude, attitude. I might not have walked into this establishment with a fancy handbag and established clothing luxury but my expectations were still to be treated as a consumer seeking out a service. While waiting for my watch, I noticed other customers in similar dress not being helped while staff was mindlessly perusing around. Judging a book by it's cover is obviously a statement made. While intentions of future purchases were considered, this location and business will not be in my short list for the future. Personally in disgust by any associates, the receptionist is the only member of staff that offered a non-sarcastical smile and help. Every person walking into a place of business, regardless of initial appearance, should be treated with the up-most respect. After reading past reviews, I notice that my specific complaint is not the only one. A complaint should be made once (and never again), which means nothing has changed. I'm not sure if it's ageism or defined judgement on appearance but something needs to be adjusted. I sent to DC to start research on a rolex for my husband. I was the second person in the store right after it opened at 1000 AM in Saturday. I was out running errands and was dressed in a t shirt and jeans. The receptionist greeted me and gave me directions to the watches. I was passed by two sales associates, without even being recognized. No hello may I help you. Nothing. I stood there for a moment looking around, clearly looking for assistance, but apparently I was not the client anyone wanted to assist. When I left I looked at the receptionist (with a sales associate beside her talking to her) and said, I guess no one wants to help me. And she just smiled. After looking around the area for jewelers to go look at engagement rings and hearing nothing but good reviews about the Diamond Cellar, We decided to venture in to the Sawmill location. The first time my girlfriend and I went in we weren't sure what to expect as neither of us are very big jewelry wearers or knowledgeable about the subject. Our minds were set at ease when we met with Jeanne Doyle, she was extremely friendly and welcoming and took the time to understand exactly what we were looking for. Once she had a good idea of what we wanted, we went to look at some band options. Somewhere along the cases of ring settings, she decided to show us one with a little different character but still in the same setting as what we wanted and we both knew immediately it was the one. After getting my girlfriend sized, we talked a little about future wedding bands and she gave us some valuable insight that we hadn't considered before in regards to wedding band selection that changed our mind about the direction we want to go for those. On a subsequent trip, Jeanne and I took some time to discuss diamond options and help me to find the perfect engagement ring stone. I had done a little research before this so I knew generally what I wanted, but having an expert in front of me able to show the subtle differences in the 4C's of the assortment of diamonds that were brought out was reassuring. At no time during my visit did I feel any pressure to purchase one diamond over the other was fantastic. Again, just like she had done with the band, Jeanne's insight was able to help me make the appropriate compromises to get a superb quality diamond while still staying within my budget. I drove with my family from Michigan to visit Columbus and decided to see the selection of Patek at the local AD. We were greeted when we walked in and was told an associate would be with us shortly. After browsing the PP selection (I'm dreaming of owning a 5711R ) a world timer caught my eye. We hovered for maybe 2 minutes before deciding I didn't want to give them my business. No one came to help. Granted, we don't appear to be the perhaps cliche type that would be shopping for a PP. AWFUL EXPERIENCE. Came to Diamond Cellar looking at bridal sets. Came here first, because they're big and have a big selection and I've done business here before. Mistake... I forgot that big stores have huge overhead, so they need to sell you a big ticket to keep the lights on. It was an utterly awful experience. From the moment we walked in, they sized us up and decided how much money they believed we have. They decided how much money they would extract from us, and were single-mindedly hell-bent on selling us what they wanted, which was more than we wanted. They didn't listen, at all. They tried to steer us and shame us into buying what they wanted to sell us. I guess there's not a lot of repeat business for bridal sets, so they "went for it". It was an awful experience. Don't believe their fancy ads - this was an unpleasant, manipulative hard-sell disguised behind a smile. To be honest, I was very glad I wasn't 25 years old and this wasn't my first rodeo - these guys would shame a first-time buyer into spending far more than they should. We literally walked out. Go to Denig Jewelers in Worthington. They're smaller, but they listen and do business the old fashioned way - they're customer-focused and honest. The place was very packed and you could tell that it was likely a long day for all of the employees. Despite that fact that the day was long Emalee was so patience and kind while we shopped. I am a very indecisive person and she talked to me as a friend and gave real opinions to find the perfect bands. She went out of her way to find the perfect band and really listen to what myself and my fiance wanted. We both ended up picking out beautiful bands that we were extremely happy about. I speak from experience when I say the Diamond Cellar is one of the best family-owned jewelry and watch stores in Columbus. I've been shopping here long enough to have had mixed experiences, but more often than not I've had exceptional service. My husband and I have purchased a quite a few name brand watches and jewelry at the Diamond Cellar and they never fail to stand behind their products. If you are in the market for a fine piece of jewelery or high-end watch, I suggest buying it at the Diamond Cellar as they will educate you in the various options, and are able to service the piece properly and, if need be, send it out for repair through the proper channels. Loyal customers are invited to several annual events hosted by the Diamond Cellar at various venues around Columbus, where you are provided not only with a dinner and open bar, but you have the opportunity to meet the upper eschelon of various jewelry companies, learn about the history of the companies and how their products are made and have the opportunity to purchase rare and unusual pieces. Some of my friends have had random negative experiences at the Diamond Cellar, but I personally have not, so I highly recommend the store- and I particularly like the shop on Sawmill, but have no issue whatsoever with the Easton location. read more

SHORT REVIEW: My experience with Daniel Gordon and his team at Diamond Cellar couldn't have been better. After sharing some notes and a Pinterest inspiration board, the DC team designed a custom sapphire, diamond, and ruby filigree ring for me. From the sketch, the CAD, to the finished piece, the process was much easier, faster, and cheaper than I imagined. So, without ever setting foot in the store, I have an amazing ring that warms my heart every time I see it. Daniel and Diamond Cellar represent a more than 5-star rating. THE REST OF THE STORY: Some jewelry is bling, some is sentimental, but the best jewelry has a story behind it, and this is the story of my custom ring. My 50th birthday in October 2014 was not what we had hoped. The steakhouse party with close friends, the trip to Dallas to OU/TX Weekend, and the decision to get "something special" were put on hold when my loving husband Ed spent almost a month in the hospital. Instead, we celebrated with cupcakes and watching television. Less than a month later, I lost my sweet husband to cancer. It took almost a year to get the point of revisiting Ed's sketches and the ideas we had shared. There had never been any question we wanted Daniel Gordon and Diamond Cellar to do the custom work, as thanks to social media and an outgoing personality, we and Daniel had maintained a relationship after he relocated from Oklahoma to Ohio. Daniel knew of the project, and every so often would inquire, but never before checking to see how I was doing personally - my well-being was worth more to him than a sale. In October, I sent him a detailed description of our idea, some photos on a Pinterest board, and the stones we wanted to use in the ring. About six weeks later, after seeing a sketch from an amazing artist, and a CAD print, my ring arrived. Words can't adequately express how special this is, as it is like having a piece of Ed with me, as he wanted me to have something special for last year's birthday and it didn't quite work that way. This is what he would have wanted me to wear. Worked into the platinum filigree are our initials in hearts and infinity loops. The center stone is an emerald cut sapphire mounted east/west to mirror my engagement ring, and the sapphire is flanked by a diamond and ruby on each side. The red, white, and blue was in honor of Ed's military service, and how in a backhanded way, the Army brought us together. I never dreamed custom work could be so easy! Then of course we came back for the wedding band... I have been back several times to him to get it cleaned & re-dipped and have had a pleasant experience every single time!! He had great communication and anticipated all of my questions before I even asked them due to his experience and expertise in this field. I went into this place to sell a ring set, and was met with a cold, impatient elderly lady with short. blond hair. When I tried to explain why I was there, etc., she interrupted me with "Yeah....yeah..." and then answered the phone, cutting me off. When someone finally came to assist me, it was a cocky, younger dark-haired man, with no smile on his face at all. He seemed agitated that he had to "deal with the likes of me." Yes, I was in my "scrubs," (sweatshirt and jeans) but even then I was still attractive and pleasant to look at. This place was but one of many errands I had to run that day, so sorry if I didn't have on a dress and high heels for them. That's the energy and vibe I felt from them, anyway... Upon giving me the check for my ring set, he bolted away from me, before I could even shake his hand or say anything else to him. He just seemed like a snobby salesman who thought he was working on Rodeo Drive or something. It was a big turn-off. For the record, I am NOT someone who believes the customer is always right. That's a stupid myth created by false ego and greed, as no one is always right--there is no such thing. Only right is always right. I believe in principle over profit, and we're all humans first and customers and employees second--period. What matters is how we treat each other, no matter where it is, or what position we're in. That said, if these people treated me this way anywhere else, I would still feel offended--it matters not that I was a customer--I am just a human asking to be respected like anyone else. Perhaps they had a bad day--I don't know. My first experience with them was more pleasant, and the sales people were much nicer and more personable. We didn't know we needed to make an appointment, so we showed up, got sized, and was told to wait around for a sales associate to get us and show us around. Waited for over an hour and not one sales associate had the decency to look us in the eye and say hello. One vendor representative showed us a couple of rings (after we had been waiting for 45 minutes) and he was great, but was constantly interrupted by other Diamond Cellar sales associates asking for his help, and even interrupting us while we tried to talk to the vendor representative. Again, they wouldn't even look us in the eye. How humiliating! I understand it was a busy day, but to not even be acknowledged by the Diamond Cellars team at any point is beyond frustrating. We will be taking our business elsewhere, and will advise others to do the same. read more
