Di Jerk Stop - Oxtail with peas & rice and cabbage - Caribbean Near Me - Lafayette, Louisiana

Great food. Amazing service. Got it to go as not much of a setting I'd want to sit and eat down at.

Found this hidden spot, literally in the same plaza as La Bamba Bar Lounge. The interior and exterior of the building is intriguing, but the food, though, is ASTOUNDING! If you want some jerk chicken with fried plantains or goat curry with Mac n cheese and fried plantains, then you've come to the right spot! Imagine jerk chicken like bbq chicken, but with an extra kick and flavor to it. I didn't even know Lafayette had a Caribbean food joint until now. Definitely expect me back here! #LambChopOnTheGeaux #carribeanfood #lafayettelouisiana #food #dijerkstop read more

Im not sure why everyone is giving 4 stars but this def a 5 star place!! Everything was well seasoned, full of flavor, portions were insanely huge and just absolutely amazing! I will definitely be back for the whole fish and all the other chefs special I want to try :P 1st plate: turkey necks, rice/peas& steamed veggies. The turkey necks were my favorite, they were falling off the bone and sooo succulent. 2nd plate: dark jerk chicken, sweet plantains & mac pie. Alot of the reviews complained their chicken were burnt but mine was cooked to perfection and so tender. The only thing tha wouldve made the mac pie even better is if they had a crust on top, im js a sucker for a good cheese crust read more

Respect to everyone who left a 5 star rating but uhhh NO! Yelpers got me again! However, I take accountability for stopping at a jamaican spot that was almost EMPTY. Typical jamaican restaurant setup. A soft spoken young man in a hoodie at the counter, who seemed like he would rather not be bothered by me, took my order. I ordered the oxtails, rice, cabbage and plantains. Although all my food didn't come out together, my late arriving plantains were room temp at best. All these "HUGE PORTIONS" I've read about must've been from the good old days because this wasn't my experience but in a way, I'm grateful because these were the TINIEST, TOUGHEST, "little oxtails that wannabe great" I've ever ordered! The cabbage was good, as was the rice. The oxtails had usual flavor but for the $30, these oxtails should be FORK TENDER! NO EXCUSES They didn't have Beef Patties and I didn't want to roll the dice on anything else. I'm giving it 3 stars because I can't give 2.5 stars. Di Jerk Stop needs to stop JERKING AROUND! The sign in the window says "Flavor Without The Flight". You might have to fly to the dentist after taking on the Ben Grimm of oxtails. Not Good! read more

The food was really sweet but the loaded fries was decent and also sweet and the oxtail and rice and beans was soup y and sweet

I come to Lafayette every year to cover a local basketball event and I decided to try one of the nearby restaurants. When you think of Louisiana, Cajun & Crawfish come to mind. LISTEN.....This spot right here is a hidden gem!!! I had the Jerk wings/fries and loaded chicken fries for later. All of the other reviews are pretty much spot on. The seasoning and sauce is very good. I had the jerk wings and fries that evening and only taste tested the loaded fries. The loaded fries were even better the next day with the seasoning marinated in there for 12 hours and reheated. That's always a testament when the food is better the next day. I would definitely come back. read more

I was in the mood for some Jamaican jerk chicken wings. So I decided to make some at home. I also wanted some Jamaican rice and peas but I didn't feel like doing it myself. Which is why I ended up at this place I picked up an order of the rice and peas and the Festival. Both were actually pretty good. I would definitely order the rice and peas again. read more

I have been craving Caribbean food for some time now, and this spot definitely hit the spot for me. When you enter through the doors, you can feel the authenticity vibes. I had the following: Oxtail Stew w/ festival, macaroni pie & rice & peas - talk about flavorful and delicious! They give you a pretty hefty portion too Spicy Wings - mango spicy wings, it was delicious, just wish it was spicier I am definitely coming back to try their other stuff, their other items looks really delicious too! Di Jerk Stop - a meal in a styrofoam container - Caribbean Near Me - Lafayette, Louisiana

Was a little underwhelming I door dashed it and paid like 12-13 dollars for a side of oxtails and the container was so small and mostly gravy I was underwhelmed also it didn't taste real unique read more

I had been wanting to try the west African dish called Fufu and I found out this place had it. I traveled about 65 miles to try it and I'm glad I did. It was AMAZING. It was Fufu with oxtails with a dark brown gravy that had flavor and I mean FLAVOR! Ill be a repeat customer for sure. read more

This is a tucked away place in the back of the complex. I definitely recommend trying the ox tail stew, it's just like tender beef that falls off the bone. Each entree comes with two sides, and I got the yellow rice and fiestas--delicious. I was recommended the Mac bowl, so I will be going back to try some. I wasn't too drawn to stay and eat there, but maybe I came at the wrong time. Stop by and try their full plates of food. read more

The jerk chicken is really good. You must try! Very clean place and nice owners. I remember when they use to be located on Florida Blvd. Now it's nice they have a place you can actually sit down and enjoy some good Jamaican cuisine. read more

Stopped in late, but they still had some fresh hot food. They were generous with portions and the chicken and the peas and rice were just spicy enough, but not too much. Cant wait to try other dishes. read more

Was not satisfied with my dinner. I had my food delivered. I ordered Jerk Chicken (dark meat) with steamed vegetables, rice and peas, sweet plantains, and a side of festival (4). I will say I appreciated the restaurant contacting me letting me know that the restaurant was low on dark chicken and had breast. So to accommodate me they added some oxtails with the quarter chicken. But when I got my food the chicken was burnt! black! not edible and lack flavor and the festival were burnt as well. I was very upset I spent over $30 on my meal and didn't even enjoy it. I was excited to finally eat food that was from an island here in Lafayette because I am here for work from South Fl and being from the Caribbean. If I had picked it up from the restaurant instead of getting it delivered I would have asked for my money back and not have taken the food. I don't think I will be ordering from here again. read more

We ordered take-out for the first time from this nice place that has live music at times and serves some killer Jamaican foods. It's tucked into one of those mini-plazas along Johnston, just south of the CVS at Johnston and Guilbeau. We got jerk chicken, perfectly cooked and with wicked-good seasoning. The oxtail stew was thick and rich. My wife finished the beef patty within minutes of arriving home. For sides, fried plantains, rice and peas, stewed cabbage all supported the entrees deliciously. I had woken up that day with an envie for something with plantains and this Stop hit the spot. We shall return! read more

Boooomb!!!!!!! So freaking delicious. I love the oxtails. Authentic. I recommend calling to see what they are serving that day. I'm a forever customer read more

Di Jerk Shop has some of the most authentic Jamaican food I've had in Louisiana to date. As a Native, I'm very critical of my food and they were spot on. My husband and I have had almost every dish on the menu including the beef patties. Their jerk chicken and curried lamb is delightful and not to mention the Rasta pasta!! Thumbs up across the board! Although it's take out only at the time, they have an awesome outdoor seating where you can wait for your food and people watch - if you're into that kinda stuff. All in all, we consider DJS our neighborhood Jamaican eats ALWAYS! read more

This was my first time eating at Di Jerk Stop and won't be my last. I ordered my food through Doordash for lunch at work and my food was presented and plated very well. I could smell the seasonings through the bag as the driver handed it to me. My ordered consisted of the Jerk Chicken Entree which consisted of jerk chicken, rice & peas, mixed vegetables, and festival bread. I also ordered a side of Mac Pie. Everything tasted delicious!!! My favorite was the Mac Pie it had a nice kick of spice to it. Another important thing about this order was that I received so much food for the price and it was definitely worth it. I see my frequenting Di Jerk Stop often. I definitely recommend!!! -Crystal read more

Delicious . I had the oxtail it was awesome. My friend had a jerk chicken he enjoyed it as much. Wish it came on a plate Instead of a Styrofoam box. But I will go back read more

I visited Di Jerk Stop yesterday afternoon. It was a little hard to find but the location is great for parking if larger crowds were to patronize this place. Although there wasn't many people dining in, the atmosphere for doing so was great! I could really see theme nights being a thing there. The food was being served out of aluminum pans which concerned me because I thought that some portion of the food would be cold but when I tasted the food it was hot. Every bit of it! The pans are only used for transferring the food to the line and also to make sure that there is plenty to serve their guest! I had jerk chicken, mac, and a fried bread ( I forgot the name but trust me it was delicious). My fiancé had her usual oxtails. Before I could leave I had to sit down and sample the food. it was so good that I had to tell myself to wait until I got home. The only drawback is no callaloo at the time. Also the jerk sauce was more like a jerk bbq sauce. It wasn't bad at all. We will be back. read more

The jerk pork and jerk chicken entrees are sooo good. I ordered both on Waitr and got $5 off using code Local5!

I've had their food before, but I recently hired them to cater my son's rehearsal dinner. We ordered a pan of jerk chicken (mild, not spicy), a pan of jerk pork (spicy), a pan of curried shrimp, a pan of rice and peas, a pan of macaroni pie and 2 dozen plantains. Everything was absolutely delicious! The guests loved everything and there was very little left! The macaroni pie (it's not a pie in a pie shell) was a huge hit with the spicy food lovers. The food was also very reasonably priced. I highly recommend Di Jerk Stop for lunch, dinner and any catering needs! read more

Ordered the Bar Wings with fries (jerk + mango) at 10:30 pm. The fries were soggy AF. The wings had very little flavor. As a matter of fact they both tasted the same. 6 wings plus fries $13 then they have the nerve to charge $5 per plate because its late night. So $18 for some nasty wings and nasty fries. NO MAS! Y'all outta y'all jerk mind. Never again! $40 spent I swear I wish I never took a chance on this place. I would have never set my finger to type this but the nerve of charging $5 per plate cuz you choose to open late. GTFOH. Im burnt up for real and all my people about know. read more

Jerk chicken super yummy. Jerk shrimp pasta is creamy, spicy and delicious. Will def order here again
