Recently, I visited a DHL representative at Skymart, located at 1816 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC. After waiting 15 minutes for her to finish a phone call, I asked about the cost of sending four PR cards to an Asian destination. She initially quoted $256, but after I hesitated, she recalculated and offered a discounted price of $192 due to her employee discount. However, she didn't mention that taxes would be added, which brought the total to around $218. I then inquired whether FedEx or Purolator might offer a better rate. She told me that Purolator doesn't deliver to that country and that FedEx is unreliable, with a price likely similar to DHL's. Despite my reservations about the questionable service, I decided to proceed with DHL. Later, out of curiosity, I visited another DHL location 11 blocks west at 2900 Broadway, where they quoted me $120 for the same shipment. I was shocked by the significant price difference. I returned to the original store to request a refund, but the representative told me their policy does not allow returns. Even though my items were still on her desk (despite her efforts to hide them), she refused to return them, citing store policy. She also claimed to have sent me a tracking number, which was not true--I received the tracking number only about 20 minutes later. I am perplexed by the large discrepancy in pricing for the same service from the same company. I contacted DHL to address this issue, and this is the response I received: "Based on the response received from our retail management team, we would like to inform you that the cost structure for our services is established through confidential agreements with our retail partners and DHL. Unfortunately, we are unable to disclose specific details regarding this arrangement. The rates may vary between the DHL website, retail partner locations, and DHL-owned service centers. November 30th, I'm getting married to a guy that I am crazy about (love you, Chris A.!), so that means I need a wedding dress. In my opinion, it's a waste of money to spend hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars on a dress you're only going to wear once, so I decided not to buy a "wedding dress", but rather, a dress to wear at my wedding. (Also, this is my second marriage, so I'm not fussed about having an actual wedding dress. Been there, done that.) After failing to find any suitable dresses in a brick and mortar store, I ordered a couple dresses online (I couldn't decide which dress to get and they were reasonably priced, and my mom said she'd help with the cost, so I ordered both) and they were shipped by DHL. When the dresses were on their way, I was notified via text and email by DHL. I was given a tracking number, with which I could easily track my shipment online, although DHL kept me informed of any updates. (While I'm pleased with being updated, it was a bit much; I would be texted AND emailed about the same update, and in one instance, I was called too. Great, yeah, I know, my package is on its way. Got it.) On Thursday, I received an update (by text and email) about my package arriving in Vancouver by the end of the day, and I was given the option of having the package rerouted to one of their business centers. I chose to have the package rerouted, as I was worried that the package would be left at the front door (I was not familiar with DHL's policies, and the notification said a signature wasn't required), and conveniently, there was a DHL center a couple of blocks from my work. I went to pick up the package on Friday morning, and it was a simple process, no issues. Also, the employee was really friendly and helpful. She answered some questions I had and explained DHL's policies (they will not drop off a package at an apartment building unless the recipient or a concierge is there to sign), and informed me that in the future, if I ever have a package shipped by DHL, I can put down a DHL center's address instead of my home address, and have the package shipped directly there (but of course I'd have to know that the package is being shipped by DHL, although having it rerouted was easy). All in all, I was pleased with the service I received, and there were no issues. The only slightly annoying thing is DHL sent so many notifications, yet oddly enough, I didn't receive a notification, either by text or email, that the package had arrived at the DHL center. Waited all day for an important package only for them to tell me that they could not reach me at home. I was at home the whole day and did not hear even a doorbell ringing. I suspect the courier just sat at Tim Hortons and checked "attempted delivery" in their system and moved on. Had to request the package to be delivered to a centre for my pick up. There is almost no point in me leaving a review as it is identical to so many others. They fail to deliver to a 24hr concierge building when absolutely nobody else has that problem. I receive packages from everyone else without an issue. I think the delivery people just sit in their truck at a Tim Hortons somewhere outside town and enter "attempted delivery" for each package on their route. I've had this happen three other times with them. Once I was never able to get the package, and it sat in Richmond until time expired and they returned it to england. The time I wasted on them, the number of phone calls, the conflicting information, ugh. The other two packages I had to go to Richmond to get as well, after "attempted delivery". Bullshit. *every order i've had with DHL has a failed "attempted delivery" to a 24 hr concierge building* I've now got this happening again with an order from the US. From now on, if I try to order something and they don't say who the shipper is, I will check before I order to make sure it's not DHL. I cannot believe how inept they are, and it's not just an occasional whoops. They shouldn't even be allowed to be in business. In general: 1) They lie about attempting delivery 2) They do not leave attempted delivery notes 3) They do not attempt delivery again or actively communicate. He looks at his phone for a bit and then drives off. And then get an email that said the driver tried to drop off my parcel but I wasn't home. After the package was not delivered because they would not allow the building manager to accept my package, I had to wait until Monday to call because they are not open on the weekends and are on EST time - what century are we in where an international courier doesn't have customer service except during the week and EST? Outrageous brokerage fees! They try to make it impossible to self - clear and pay CBSA duty /import fees yourself.. I've spent 5 days trying to obtain the documents needed to pay CBSA directly and DHL has given me nothing but the run around! Well no, turns out they lied: second email, after the service point received my package, said they were only open from 9 to 5 Mon-Fri. Just disappointed overall with DHL and their international services. The service used to be much more straightforward and simple. Now, in order to ship a small package from the US to China, customs is requiring additional paperwork. OK, no problem, you need some additional paperwork. Well I tried shipping two packages - on my first attempt, set everything up on the portal, packages were picked up by driver (which btw, DHL should not even allow their drivers to pick up packages if the paperwork needed to ship is not already in place) and both packages returned 3 days later. I set it up again, this time I called and spoke to one of their reps, did exactly as I was told and shipments were again returned about 2-3 days later. On my third attempt, I took it to a mail center (which the mail center shipped through DHL and setup shipment on their end, I thought "these people are mail professionals, they have to know how to do it!"), still no dice. My 4th attempt, I tried again myself and spoke to a international rep (again), he told me to do the paperwork differently than the last guy (so their customer service team members aren't even trained properly on the new paperwork necessary to ship from U.S. to China), and this time around both packages made it out of the U.S., but got stuck in two sorting centers in China. One of the sorting centers released the package, so finally made it to the intended recipient (which was not easy either, I had to have my recipient call them to discuss how important it was to get this package released) and the other package I actually have to hire a 3rd party agent (this was recommended by DHL too!), in order to get package released, which is completely ridiculous. The items I am shipping are literally small samples, originally manufactured and produced in China, and I am just trying to send them back to my factory. We import full containers during the year, so the fact that I have had this much trouble getting these two packages out is just super annoying and waste of time. Now I have spent 20 minutes writing a bad review...get it together DHL!! The reason I have given two stars is a) one of the two packages finally made it after 4th attempt, and b) I have used DHL a few times in the past without issues. read more

Disappointed with misinformed customer service agents. My package was supposed to arrive on the 31st of March but it said on 31st morning that it was withheld due to charges. So I called customer service to inquire, and they reassured me that this was an error in their system and that I would have my package within the day or at the latest on the 1st of April. I called again this morning because the system still showed the charge- and it was then that I was told that I did have to make a payment and that my package would arrive today if I made the payment ASAP. I made it immediately but it never showed so I called again and apparently I "missed the deadline" for my package to be mailed today so now I'm only getting my package on 5th April because of the long weekend. Their misinformed agents caused my package to be delayed by a total of 5 days. read more

"Delivery attempted; recipient not home" is what the tracking information says, except no attempt was made to buzz my unit and I have the call logs to prove it. That was two days ago and I have not received an email or anything else informing me that my package could not be delivered, please arrange pickup or redelivery. Instead there's just 'Shipment on hold' for three updates in a row. So now I'm going to go to the DHL branch downtown to see if A) my package is actually there and B) how much they're going to charge me in extra service fees because DHL is a complete ripoff and will double or triple the shipping cost that I paid when the product was ordered. I will then inform the seller that unless they stop using DHL I will never shop from them again and had I known in advance that they used DHL I would never have bought from them. Holy Christ on the cross do I hate dealing with DHL. All shipping and courier services are kind of a pain in the ass, but living in Vancouver and dealing with DHL is torturous. They don't have a downtown depot, so when they helpfully try to deliver your package IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WORK DAY it eventually gets rerouted to their depot in Richmond. Which conveniently enough is not accessible via transit! That's right, it's either con a friend into driving you there or take a cab from the airport! After two such experiences I eventually resorted to getting a package sent to my office thinking for some insane reason that that would yield a more convenient experience. What can I say, I've always been a dreamer. Lo and behold the driver, despite having my work and cel number didn't bother to call and when he couldn't find my office in the building left and sent the package to Richmond. AGAIN. Get your shit together DHL. You are a package delivery service, your raison d'etre is to make sure I get my damn package. And considering what you cost to use (which make no mistake, I wouldn't if given the choice) I should be getting that shit presented to me on a silken pillow swaddled in perfumed gauze by a girl dressed like the Orion Slave Dancer from Star Trek. Since this review was right on the homepage, I thought I should contribute a review since I too dislike DHL. I deal with various courier companies on a daily basis and hands down DHL is the worst. No comparison at all. First off DHL is terribly unreliable, like really really bad! Secondly for a company like DHL, they have the worst website known to mankind; Not only is it very amateurish but it's confusing as hell to navigate and if your hoping to ship through their website, don't count on the order going into their system, its so poorly designed that it will not. I do not dispute that DHL has some of the lowest rates but that comes at a cost. If you are not concerned about a major courier company losing your packages, or forgetting to pick up a shipment or making you or your client pick up there package at their depot because they won't deliver it, then I strongly recommend using DHL. You will strongly regret it! One more thing, they really need to get with the times and get out of the stone age! LOL Ship with FedEx or UPS if you want a fast and reliable courier. read more

We were home waiting for this on my day off. The driver didn't bother ringing the buzzer. Then I asked for it to be delivered to work, they never showed up. When I spoke to the agent, they were not helpful with locating the item either. So it's not really for you to say our reviews aren't accurate. So please have your individual experience reflect on your reviews. Now I have to go into this branch to pick it up since I no longer trust their skills to deliver this package. Let's hope its there. It showed as delivered...but I didn't receive it. I contacted DHL via phone, they confirmed their driver delivered it to the wrong address. DHL downright refused to address or fix the situation. They said I need to contact the site I bought it from, and that it's not their problem. What?! There mistake, but not their problem?! What?! And if that wasn't bad enough, the customer care agent hung up on me! Now some else has my package (that I paid for) that they can use and got for free. What a disappointment! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.. I just dealt with a DHL customer. He brought me a package, and he's wasn't courteous at all. All he did was point and say I need payment. What kind of customer service is that?! Also, I order a book that cost $60. They charged me taxes on it and a $10 processing fee AND a $4 collect on delivery fee. If I rejected it and went to their location to pick it up, would they still charge me that $4? What am I paying delivery charges for!??!!?? I usually deal with FedEx.
