Walked in just before Christmas and had a super secret plan to install subwoofers and system in my teen daughter's car without her knowing. Not an easy feat. They recommended a great system kit, and we worked at a cool plan that I'd barrow the car to "get the oil changed" while she was at school. Then I dropped it off after the real oil change. In one day they installed and hid all the wiring necessary, including the amp, boost switch, etc. I had asked them not to hook up the speakers or else she'd know. So instead they temporarily hooked them up, showed me how to do it on Christmas Day, then rebid the wires for me. They put dark tape over the light indicators on the amp so she wouldn't notice something hiding under seat. They tucked the booster under the dash so there wouldn't be any visible buttons. The trunk wires they hid under the trunk carpet by the spare tire! That teenager drove around for a week without any idea she had an entire system hiding in wait for Christmas Day! In Christmas morning we sent her on a treasure hunt that ended at her car and she was brought to tears of excitement! What a great team at DFM! They collaborated, kept the secret, and took extra steps to ensure she didn't notice anything different. They even trained a non-technical mama how to hook up the speakers for a bonus surprise and immediate use on Christmas Day when they'd be closed! Awesome job! Definitely 5 stars! I bought a stereo on line. I purchased everything the vendor said I needed to install in my vehicle. Long story short, I had many problems and finally gave up the install and went to DFM. These people took very good care of my problems. They fixed things that were wrong with purchase and seemed genuinely committed to making sure everything was done correctly. DFM STEREO ARE CROOKS AND THEY WILL KILL YOU CAR BATTERY AND RUIN YOU STARTER I am currently having my car towed because dfm doesn't know that u can't wire all your speakers to your battery without killing it and also they put my car in theft mode not allowing me to turn on my car. I have had so many frustrations with them I'm just going to list them out below cause it's cost me a lost of money and aggravation and I hope they go out of business cause with the experience I've had I could sue the cr@p out of them. -didn't tune my new radio claimed "we run out of time sometimes" -put my single din radio in my car crooked -STOLE my 'high to low adapter' and don the owner lied to my face when I asked where it was, later he tried to make me pay for a new one $100 fix -killed my car battery by overloading it with speakers $300 fix -ruined my starter when he disconnected my preexisting sub that ran through there, that he had no need to touch, to my battery, but when he disconnected my sub he messed up my starter and now it doesn't recognize my key, $300 fix Finally when I called don at dfm he hung up on me saying I didn't understand the system and he wouldn't help me The worst business in town and I've never been so miss treated, definitely ask around I'm not the only one with a negative experience with them. No selection at all. The salesman sounded like he was trying to talk me out of buying what I wanted, almost as if he assumed I couldnt afford it. He pointed me to one set of speakers and started rattling off prices in upwards of over $1000, for a head unit and some speakers. I went to another business in Santa Rosa and got the system I wanted, with speakers and they tinted my windows the same day. They took the time to show me a selection and to print me out a quote. We are traveling in a new 40ft. Motorhome and stopped in Ukiah for a couple of days. We've been planning on having an alarm installed so figured we'd try and find a place here or Redding which is our next stop. The place I contacted in Redding couldn't do it until late next week, but DFM got us in at 9am the next day. Very professional and I even encouraged them to sell me a car stereo since the one that came with our rig was pretty crappy. Great service! read more

DFM got the job done. It was completed late. They did not charge me for the warranty work. I was disappointed. Here's are the details: After the end of the '17 boating season, I trailered my boat 2 hours north back to DFM where I had my boat system installed. While I was never very happy with the install job, it was, at least I thought, at the time a good deal. Having now spoken with no less than 5 other installers, I now believe the cost was actually high for what I got. Regardless, the first time (July of 2016) that I took my boat to DFM the work was done on time and the shop did as they promised. Ultimately it was an okay, job, not great but okay. During the '17 boating season one of the amps went into protection mode and I took it to a marine stereo shop in Santa Rosa. The 2nd shop tells me to call back to DFM where the work was done as it should be under warranty with DFM. DFM tells me I need to bring the boat in, I argue that it is 4-5 hours round trip for me to get to Lakeport and they agree to let me send the amp to them. Now this is the first small but important mistake. Had they asked a few more questions they would have been able to tell me that the amp was out of warranty, that even if it was the amp with the issue it could not have been replaced. If they had checked their records (which later they admitted they no longer had) they could have told me that there was almost no warranty work they could have done, as the parts were out of warranty and DFM did not rewire the boat, just install the parts. They get the amp in the mail, after some number of days and 2 calls fro me, they finally check it and it's fine, so the issue is elsewhere. This is the second issue, at this point, I really wish they had known that I was not entitled to warranty work and that they should have just sent my amp back to me, then let me get the boat to someone closer to me to have the stereo system serviced. This is where the issues compound. The plan with Danny was to drop my boat off to be worked on while I was on a 3 week trip, he said they would handle troubleshooting it between other jobs. When I dropped my boat off for warranty work, we talked about another rather sizable list of things I wanted to have done to the boat stereo, he took notes while we discussed them. DFM had my boat for the 3 weeks, while I was on my trip. My expectation was that I would get a quote for the upgrades I wanted and updates about the issue I had brought it in for. There was no communication while I was overseas, even though I had stated clearly that they could text or call whenever they like, I would get the communications while I was traveling. When I get back stateside I call expecting to hear they solved the issue or at least isolated it, and that they had an estimate for the other work we talked about. Instead I hear that they never found time to work on my boat, and that my boat, which I had brought to them freshly detailed and free of any nonessential clutter, had been sitting outside in the rain. This means that my fresh detail was getting ruined by the rain for no purpose, I could have had it safely in it's garage waiting it's turn. They had not done any troubleshooting in the over 3 weeks they had it. I expressed my disappointment and asked them to make it a priority. Some days later they called back having isolated the warranty issue to a faulty speaker. This was when Danny checked his records. He tells me that he had changed point of sale systems over a year ago. Since they did not keep the records from the legacy system, he had no record of the work he had done on my boat. If he didn't have the records, that meant it was on the old system, as the old system had been replaced over a year ago, logically, my gear was out of warranty. This is the information I wish I had gotten months ago, when this saga began. To their credit they did isolate the issue, and they did get the rear stereo receiver working, they did not charge me for that work, nor should they have it. Credit to Danny on this point. In the end it took them over 4 weeks to isolate a short circuited speaker and fix the auxiliary receiver on the swim deck. To their credit, this didn't cost me any money, however it cost me hours of my time, following up with them, driving the boat 2+ hours north, mailing them the amplifier and in general being frustrated with the situation. I did not have a good experience, I hope your experience with them is better. Overall they seem competent if not a bit distracted, they do seem to over promise and sadly under deliver. My boat will not be going back there, but their service could work for you, I would just recommend calling them regularly for updates, if they don't call you. read more

I purchased a cd player for my Nissan Frontier. The one I bought was a battle to get installed (3 hours of waiting time) before I was able to take my truck and go. Well on he way home I found an issue with the backup camera so I took it back and they worked on the problem. On the way home I found the first problem had been cured but a second issue arouse. I took it back so the store replaced that system with a new one (thinking the problem was internal in the deck). They replaced the first deck with the new one yet the problem was still there. After talking with the manufacturer it appeared the second system was also defective. I was finally set up with a better system that has preformed great. From something the store has never seen to a satisfied customer. All it took was a couple of weeks and a system wihtout issues. read more

I went in today just to price out new car stereo equipment and when I was quoted a price that I couldn't afford on the spot I was convinced by the owner (?), an older gentleman, to try running a finance application. I asked him if it was going to be a "hard inquiry" check on my credit and if so I didn't want to do it and he shook his head and said it would not effect my credit. I was not approved for financing so I left and by the time I got home I had an email from credit karma saying that I had a new hard inquiry on my credit report. It did in fact bring my credit score down. The man who assisted me either didn't know what he was talking about or he was lying, either way NOT HAPPY!!! Congratulations, you lost a great, local, potential repeat customer who knows a lot of people around town. Hope it was worth it. read more

So I bought another Rav 4 (of course) and it came with a custom radio for satellite. Good grief! There were so many bells and whistles that I couldn't tune in anything without pulling over and somewhat hysterically poking every button in sight to get anything at all. Five months later, I'd had enough. Back to DFM! The wonderful folks there sold me a GREAT radio, super tuner, with big label buttons...and at a price I thought would be WAY outa my reach. Nay. Done deal. Installed. Declined a tip, and taught me WTF I had to know to use it. So happy...! read more

If you have read my reviews you know my feelings on DFM Car Stereo. I was pleased with the inhouse service I received, the product I bought was top notch, but the problem was the failure to provide the remote control and the owners manual. Which I never would have known about if I hadn't checked out the Pioneer website. After they made the remote available to me but not the owners manual. They did however provide a link to download the manual myself. Since I had no way to download the manual I again contacted DFM for the manual. Their response was "we will print it out for you for the cost of the printing. I informed them that at startup the display stated that you should read the manual before proceeding. I then contacted them again with that information and told them that since they sold me the cd player that they should provide the manual to me at no cost to me. They only agreed to provide me the manual after I agreed to never come back to their store. So I shall never return to DFM stereo for any reason. That is sad as the product has exceeded expectations, the install team was top notch but the manager(?) who refused to provide the manual leaves something less than a good feeling. Would I tell you not to go there, No. But you better know how to use all the functions of the system you buy as the store won't furnish the necessary information to fully enjoy your purchase unless you promise never to return. read more

I've been going to Sean/Team for more then 10 years at this point, he has put stereos in almost all my vehicles from semi's, to cars, to trucks, to boats/waverunners, and our motorcycles. I currently live in the bay area, and brought my most recent project up to Sean( 3 hour drive and it was well worth it). I have friends who go to shops out here and so far I have only found one other place that can do what Sean does. I will continue to make the drive to have these guys do my projects. read more

Just had a second unhappy experience at DFM. The technicians in the shop were very helpful, by the way, but their management is cheap and unresponsive. Why did I buy local from DFM if they are even less helpful than the online retailers? Episode 1: I bought a replacement car stereo from DFM for my car and paid them to install it. Great service, mediocre radio, but it worked! Then I found out they had charged me $60 more than the "manufacturer's suggested retail price" for the stereo itself. The manager promised to get my refund from the manufacturer. HOWEVER, it took me several months of negotiating with the store manager to actually get a $60 refund on my credit card. Episode 2: My car stereo wouldn't sync to my new Android phone. I brought the car in to DFM and a very helpful technician also couldn't get it to sync to his own smart phone. He told me to bring the car back the next day (today!) and they would replace the car stereo since it was still under warranty. Today their manager said they would merely take out the stereo, return it to the manufacturer, and contact me whenever it was repaired. THAT IS NOT THE WARRANTY SERVICE I EXPECTED from a local dealer. Why bother buying local? Solution: Buy from Amazon. Hire a local technician (perhaps one of the nice DFM technicians works on the side?) to install your car stereo. Use the money you saved by avoiding DFM to buy a better car stereo! read more
