I was in a car…read moreaccident 9 months ago and completed an entire treatment plan of chiropractic adjustments at a different practice until they said I was on "maintenance" even though I was still having severe neck pain, fatigue and numbness on left side of my face with headaches. I did a treatment plan of Physical therapy which helped some, but still did not resolve all of my symptoms. I was at my wits end when I called and scheduled with McAlpine chiro. For the first time since my accident, I finally felt heard and could sense his genuine compassion and eagerness to want to help me. After the first two adjustments I already had relief from the pain that I had for 8 months. Soon my mood improved, my extreme fatigue started to go away, and the pain was minimal. For 8 months my whole life was on pause. I was a completely different person. Once I went to McAlpine Chiro, I started making plans for activities with my family again! Going on bike rides, and making plans to participate in all the things I used to enjoy. Dr. De Young saved my summer. I had an awful 8 months missing out on downhill skiing and ice hockey on the pond with my family, and now feel renewed and refreshed and back to my active fun loving self again. Thank you Dr. DeYoung for all of your compassion and for your excellent skill of cracking backs and taking names... or making claims (insurance claims) .. See he even has me telling my bad jokes again. Thanks again! You're the BEST!

I asked if I could book an appt. they gave me one the next day. I asked if they needed my name or insurance information. The man told me "no, just your phone number". I thought that was weird, so I gave them my phone number and name. I arrived the following day for my appt and asked the girl at the front desk if I was suppose to sign in. She told me "yes". I asked if she wanted my insurance card and she said "oh, are you a new patient?" I said "yes". And she asked for my insurance and ID, then handed me new patient paperwork that appeared to have been copied way too many times because it was hard to read. I filled out the paperwork and handed it back to the receptionist. The doctor came out in a ball cap, polo shirt, shorts and dirty shoes with what appeared to be no socks. I was thrown back by how unprofessional this establishment was and how disheveled they doctor appeared. When I got in the room the doctor told me that he does not take any insurance and asked me what my copay was and told me he would just charge me my copay because he wanted to make it affordable to me. He then told me that he doesn't take x-rays and he could start cracking on my back if I wanted him to, then all of the sudden got excited about ultrasound. He brought me to another room where his 1980's looking ultrasound machine was located. He took his "bowl" that appears to be, what I believe was a bleach bottle that had the top cut off, put some stuff in it and went to warm it up. Then he did this ultrasound/shocking thing on my low back. Surprisingly it helped, but I felt fairly uncomfortable the entire time. When he was done he suggested I buy a "train ticket", which I believe is a 4 visit package. I asked to just pay my bill and since I'm so nice, I just scheduled a follow up appt. with every intention on cancelling it the following business day. When I asked how much the visit was, they charged me $40, instead of my "copay rate". I am extremely dissatisfied with their customer service, professionalism and cleanliness. I wish I was a little more verbal from the start. I should have walked out as soon as the receptionist didn't even ask for my name or knew that I was a new patient. That is my fault, but I most certainly will not return or recommend this office to anyone.

My husband and I are new to the area. We began searching for a chiropractor in the area, and I…read moresigned up for Back to Health Chiropractic based on a Facebook ad where they were offering a "wellness" package for $52. At first glance, they seemed like an overall friendly place -- especially when the entry board welcome us by first name -- but some red flags immediately turned us off: - the parking lot was tight and had a very awkward traffic flow - upon entry, it looked pretty organized, but the self-serve kiosks were not your typical check-in stations - the exam/treatment areas were impersonal, offered no privacy, and gave us an "assembly line" vibe - the place was quite noisy The tech who went through the questions and did our x-rays was very nice (she had only been there four months), and the Dr. Britt was very personable and kind. We were scheduled for a second visit where they would go over the proposed treatment plan, and we paid our $52 each. During the second visit, we met with Dr. Britt. He went over our x-rays and proposed treatment plan, then adjusted us for the first time. After he dropped us off with the insurance/billing staff, the experience quickly went downhill. She immediately went over the reasons why our chiropractor visits would not be submitted to our insurances, would have to be paid 100% out of pocket, and required payment on the day of service. Their reason? She advised that our health insurance plans do not cover wellness chiropractor treatments and they were not going to do something that would cause them to be audited. She repeatedly advised that they COULD submit the claims to our insurance carriers and that they WOULD get paid; however, they DID NOT WANT to take a chance on getting audited. We feel that this was an underhanded way to get our money. They had our insurance information from day 1, and they knew the proposed treatment plan. If it was known that insurance would not cover our visit, why not tell us up front and give us the chance to refuse treatment? I have chronic neck and lower back pain. I have been treated by two chiropractic practices over the last decade or so and have never had a problem with insurance coverage. The State of Michigan offers health plans that cover chiropractic visits. This latest experience did not feel right.
